PC component help.
« on: May 29, 2013, 08:05:12 am »
Howdy ladies and gents.

'Tis the season for Subbeh to upgrade and get a desktop. After trusting NoCry (never trust a Frenchman) and getting an Alienware gaming laptop (I'm now going grey with tech-stress), I have decided to do a complete 180 and build a new desktop.

Here's an initial list. My budget is up to £800 or so.

Whatcha think oooooooof:

*http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/barebones/bb-37708e.html - barebones (tower, mobo/processor, psu)
*http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/opticaldrives/bluray/ihos104-06.html - Bluray optics.
*http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx660keplerseries/02g-p4-2668-kr.html - GFX card

Also, some noob q's:

How can I check if a GFX card goes with a mobo?
I have an OEM version of Windows 7 that was supplied by Alienware as a boot disk and was wondering if it'd do the job for installing the OS on the desktop once assembled?

Many thankies.

Subbeh.

It's been a while since I've done a self-build, but it looks to me like the graphics card would fit the motherboard. The card itself is a dual slot PCIe x16, of which the mobo has the two. It's more a question of which PCIe slot you'll get: the 16x or 4x.

Can't tell if the board supports PCIe 3.0, either, but the card is backwards compatible if not..

Not sure on the Win7 disk. If it's actual install disk and you still have your SN from the alienware, then maayybe? No idea. :P
