Off Topic / Matrix 4 and 5
« on: January 24, 2011, 08:27:00 am »
The headlines today are, "Keanu Reeves Says Matrix 4 and 5 are Coming".

I originally posted this in randomness but it seems to carry more weight than I initially thought. Here are some links:

http://entertainment.slashdot.org/story/11/01/24/1319214/The-Matrix-Re-Reloaded

Some of the high points are Keanu met with the Wachowski's around Christmas and the Wachowski's met with James Cameron to discuss 3D pros and cons.

Off Topic / PokerStars Home Games
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:51:01 pm »
We tossed around the idea a couple years ago to have some Furious Angel poker nights but it never really happened.

But, now, PokerStars just released Home Games! http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/home-games/

We can now literally manage a poker club! We can make tables, tournaments both cash and play money. There are leaderboards, stats, and other cool stuff.

I already made an FA Club, to join use the following:

ID: 8104
Pass: followtheangelz

-----------------------------

Scheduled Tournaments:

1/13, 8:00pm FA - Play Money Texas Hold'em - $3,000 starting chips - 10 min blinds

General / Teamspeak Banner
« on: July 28, 2010, 09:51:20 pm »
We are in need of a Teamspeak server banner. I'm hoping that our graphically inclined people can come up with something cool.

It should have a fairly generic feel like the logo at the top of the webpage. The main constraint is the width which should be about 350px. I wouldn't go with a height much more than probably 60-90px.

The best submission will become to permanent banner!

Support / Some Updates
« on: December 26, 2009, 06:35:51 pm »
Hello All,

For the last few weeks there were a few issues with the time on the server and thus effecting the timestamps on posts. They are resolved now.

To double check your settings access your user profile: http://followtheangel.org/user.php?op=edituser

And from there you can alter your timezone. (FA Time is -6:00, fyi)

Also, I'll be working on getting a TS3 block on the site that doesn't take forever to render. I might take a page out of tbone's methods and put it in an iframe.

Thanks!

Off Topic / Who Has Windows Mobile?
« on: April 09, 2009, 10:47:20 pm »
Just curious, how many people run Windows Mobile smartphones? I might be messing around this summer making some apps for Windows Mobile, could be potential for some FA apps. (I'm thinking relay box for starters)

Off Topic / A Crypto Puzzle
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:56:08 pm »
I know a lot of you enjoy a puzzle and are pretty good at it. Well I'm taking this crypto course (that I am about 15 minutes away from dropping) but I have this one homework problem I can't figure out and its annoying.

It is a substitution cipher, which means, *it should* be decrypted by substituting each letter for another letter. Anyway me and broin couldn't figure it out so you'll have bragging rights if you can...

FYNJS AJYFV SPJSQ FBKSK FSBQA SNPEA SDDCV SBYVE JBFVC HJRGA XGFDD CVVSP KCBJ

Its in blocks to make it easier to read I guess, it doesn't mean spaces, spaces should be implied, just makes it harder...

And the big hint is "pillow" occurs in the plaintext. So there are 3 places pillow would fit.

And the book gives a distribution of common letters in English language but this puzzle is going to break the distribution it seems, (just from the word pillow) making it pretty useless, but I'll post it.

e .127
t .091
a .082
o .075
i .070
n .067
s .063
h .061
r .060

Then there are other tricks, like the letter N has typically an 80% chance of being followed by a vowel, and most common digram is 'th', and 'a' 'i' and 'o' tend to avoid each other. But the puzzle is too short and these stats are hard to apply.

But anyway, if someone can figure it out maybe I'll buy you an ice cream or something :)

Thanks!

General / GTA IV: PC
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:25:26 am »
Horrible release. Utterly disappointing glitching. But if you can get it to run with some driver upgrades and hopefully a patch they promise this week, it becomes an extremely awesome game to look at and play.

I have a good computer and for whatever reasons it was a bitch to get optimized, but I have it running at 1080p (which is more than console 720p counterparts) and overall medium settings, plus added lighting effects console don't have, at an average 30fps. Forget SLI for now and No AA for now either, which is pretty noticeable on a 32" screen, 1080p helps that some, but still disappointing. But when it runs smooth, even at medium detail, it is awesomely detailed.

Hopefully they can optimize it more so it doesn't waist such a shit load of video memory and cpu processing. Anyway, it has multiplayer, haven't tried it yet. But I guess my Microsoft LIVE name is: FA Lithium

Off Topic / Away
« on: June 13, 2008, 11:10:47 pm »
I've had a slight change of plans.

An opportunity arose and I took it. I will be leaving to my usual summer job in the mountains a little earlier than I had planned this year. I will be away for about 8 weeks.

If you need anything web related for furious angels business either see Tbone or drop me a PM. I will probably be able to check email about twice a week. If you need more urgent help if all hell breaks lose you can contact tbone and in return he will contact me via phone. If TS goes down, find broin, he will restart it!

Have a great summer everyone!

Support / Explosion at Datacenter
« on: June 02, 2008, 02:55:47 pm »
The downtime was due to problems at the datacenter.

Quote
This evening (May 31st) at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site.

I guess a bunch of Islamic loving MFers decided to launch a propaganda attack against the entire server and took us out for over a day.

Everything should be back to normal now. I apologize for the delays and miscommunication.

If you like you are all more than welcome to launch a nuclear attack in retaliation!

Sorry Again!
