New Desktop
« on: November 10, 2011, 02:47:08 am »
Inspired by converting Windows 7 on my new Duo into a touch-friendly interface, I decided to use some of the same programs to spruce up the desktop of my main gaming rig. Here's where I'm at so far:

The BG image I just found via google and I might keep switching it out if I find something else I like, but it turned out pretty well.

Other than that I just used Fences and Rainmeter. Fences hides your desktop icons and Rainmeter is used for the interactive widgets and design. It's extremely customizable, but there is a bit of a learning curve to figure out where all the settings are and how to get everything going.

I was also able to get Digsby to dock to the right and auto hide off screen when it isn't needed, which is perfect b/c it's been taking up screen real estate for a long time now.

My next plan might be to find a way to get Teamspeak and Steam to blend in with the theme so that they aren't intrusive when I have them up!

heh; saw the title and thought that you were upgrading your new rig!

I had no idea you can make windows desktops so nice - will certainly look in to them.

That's pretty sick. It'd be cool to have something like that.

Furious since 2006.

That's my new project as soon as I have time.

...And we will strike down upon those of Darkness, with great vengeance and Furious Anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

If only I was technically savvy enough to do this....

We all know if I tried it I'd end up melting my monitor and blowing up my power supply.

Go ahead, make my day.

Or accidentally remotely triggering a predator to assassinate some foreign leader.

The theme I use is technologic. It uses some stuff from Enigma, though, one of the primary themes (which took me a while to figure out).

Just redid mine. I still need some tweaking, but I like the cleaner look.
Also, why do you use Fences to remove the desktop icons and not just right click->Uncheck show icons. What is the benefit of Fences?
