Vista Released!
« on: January 24, 2007, 10:31:02 am »
Well, I thought I would notify anyone interested, that vista is out for sale on newegg.  Its the OEM version, which may turn some people away from main difference is you have to figure out how to use it on your own since there is no paper work to go by.  Anyway, if you guys are interested, here is the link:

http://promotions.newegg.com/msvista/Vista_Products.html  (Unfortunately, there isn't any 64 bit versions out yet although, I hear its really sluggish anyway.)

Well that and the 64bit version wont let you install ANYTHING that isn't certified by Microsoft.

Who cares if you don't have the book any more, not like you ever use it, the online version is quicker.

And aren't you locked to hardware with the OEM version?  In that you can't swap to a new piece of kit later?

well from what I gathered your locked to your motherboard you can add memory or swap video cards things like that but yeah if you swap the motherboard to windows its a whole new computer and considered a no no.  On that note, you may be able to yell and b*tch enough to microsoft that they let you reactivate but not sure how many times you can get away with that.  For most users they dont rebuild their computer more than once in 2 to 3 years anyway.  So, in that aspect its not that big of a problem.

everytime i reformat i gotta talk to a rep to get my windows activated since i already went over my limit a long time ago. At first it seemed like the guy was suspicious but now the indian person is like please read off your key and they are like why are you needing to activate, then i just say reformat and then they move on.

I hear Vista is pretty smooth when it comes to replacing significant hardware.  The IS guy in our office was telling me that he swapped the motherboard, and a whole bunch of other components on his computer at home and Vista took about 30 minutes re-creating the hardware profile.  He was saying after the 30 minutes and a few reboots, he was back up and running again.  Whereas XP or and earlier version of Windows would basically blow up.

That's odd...the Release to Manufacturer version of Vista had both the 32bit and 64bit versions on the same DVD. It detected which you had and then asked you whether you wanted x86 or x64 installed...oh well. Musta been something special or something

I have the RTM installed, it's the WinBeta version and I believe it's AIO.  In any case I have until well after the release date to buy the full version and a very special person will be able to e-mail me the key.

So, yeah.  No need for OEM.  But don't forget kids, student pricing...

You mean the 32-bit Ultimate? Or the 64-bit Ultimate? They don't make a 34-bit Ultimate. :P
