My brother is finally becoming a PC gamer due to the Oculus Rift. He's building it. These are his parts:

Let me know what you think. I said he needs an SSD and i7 instead of i5, though for gaming apparently there's not as big of a difference.

Tell him to man up and get a GTX 780.
Why game on a Rift if you can't run everything on High/Very High/EXTREME?
-
He doesn't need an i7 over an i5 unless he's crunching serious video/media. Will save him on his power bill as well.
-
I'm not sure on the performance bump an i7 would get you while running the rift but I'm inclined to spend the extra few dollars on that now rather than be regretful in the event you need it later. Isn't the rift sorta video intensive?
A small SSD will bump system performance a lot even if you just load your OS and 1-2 games on it.
Also I sorta tend to agree with Teck, if you're trying for the VR immersion you really don't want to have things dialed back. Spend as much on the video card as you can.
I assume you've briefed him on a proper keyboard, gaming mouse and all that?
Also, monitors are dropping in price. I've been eyeing some 27" monitors with great response time for less than $350.

So my brother put it all together but can't seem to get it to start. He said it looked like the power tried to start it for a split second, and then it shuts off. Now he can't get it to do anything...
-
1 2 3 not it.
-
Seriously though, why didn't you send him to ibuypower??
-
I tried to tell him. It looks like he got it working. He said it was the power fan control (?)
-
Glad he got it fixed!
Another one converted to the PC MASTER RACE!
