Never Forget
« on: September 11, 2006, 02:58:45 pm »

I woke up that morning groggy and lethargic, like many mornings, and I got ready for work.  I turned on the television and tuned in the morning news just in time to see the second plane hit the towers.  I knew then, that I wasn't  going to be making it into work that day...

As some of you may know I am a man of many hats, one of which happens to be that of a firefighter.  And as some of you may know I live pretty much in Washington, DC.

Having changed "hats" as it were, I headed down to my fire station to help staff one of the fire pieces, just in case...

I remember watching the TV in the briefing room with many of my friends as news of the attack on the pentagon broke just after 9:30am.   I also remember our Communications Center, about 30 minutes later, issuing an immediate transfer of several County fire apparatus down into DC to cover for those DC pieces who went to the Pentagon.  My engine was one of them.

I was in DC for less than an hour when me and the other guys on my engine were transfered down to the Pentagon.   We didn't return to our station till after midnight that night.

I never saw the footage broadcast of the two Towers falling, nor its aftermath.  In some weird way I'm glad I missed all of it,  to have seen it live would've been horrible.

So this post is for all those "brothers" who gave their life that day.

Never Forget
