Title: Minecraft Releases for the Oculus Rift!
Post by: Tbone on August 15, 2016, 08:23:54 pm
Official support for Minecraft has finally come for the Oculus Rift! If you've previously purchased Minecraft, the VR is a free upgrade. You will need to have the Windows 10 edition installed, however, instead of the old Java version.

Minecraft was one of the biggest games unofficially modded for VR back in the DK1 days. It's amazing to see it get official support now. I'm sure an "official" VR server will surface soon. If not, we may have to start one. I'll be sure to give the server details when I have it!

Lithium is not allowed to play, he will have nightmares of pixelated blocks and shitty textures.

I told you it's a lot like Rust, only usually servers (or realms for the VR edition) are small enough that people build a town together instead of raid each other.

There's more of a focus on surviving monsters at night than threat of other players. Monsters can spawn anywhere that it's dark. The world is built of blocks. Dirt, cobblestone, sand, etc. You build tools, gather resources, and build a safe haven. After that it gets more complicated with switches, strongholds under ground, a nether world... In the past I tried to build a visible FA HQ on the server. You could dive off the top of it and into the ocean, which is trippy to do in VR.

I believe Vanilla Minecraft doesn't have lockable doors or permission blocks to keep people from griefing your stuff, but I'm not sure.

I bought it for my kids. When they got done, I sat down and checked it out. Holy shit. It looks amazing! Once I get bored with No Man's Sky, Minecraft is next.

Are you me? I'm bouncing back and forth between the two of them. I've maxed out my ship, multi-tool, and exosuit in No Man's Sky. Also completed the Path of the Atlas. I've started the trek to the center, but I don't know if I can stay invested long enough.

I'm getting burnt out on No Man's Sky  :(. I was really enjoying it until I hit the point of almost everything becoming repetitive. I never find new recipes, the creatures are all looking the same, etc.. Throw all that on top of how different the game is from what it was supposed to be, and I think I will be quiting it for the foreseeable future.

That was one of the biggest fears about No Man's Sky. I am glad I didn't purchase it.

I just kind of went from task to task... upgrading exosuit, upgrading multi-tool, upgrading ship, completing Atlas Path, and building all my upgrades.

I finally finished all of that and am ready for my journey towards the center. Now that going to the center is my only task, however, I'm burning out quick. Two things happened that has made it difficult to pick back up. I was flying in space and was jumped by pirates. I had upgraded my ship, so I was ready for them, but at that exact moment my controller died!! I tried flying with the mouse and keyboard and just ended up spinning endlessly until I was destroyed. So frustrating, though ultimately my fault! The second thing that happened was I did a lot of trading and got what I needed for repairs/upgrades. Once I was done I got back in my ship and alt tabbed for a second. The game crashed and NONE of that work got saved. Ugh...
