Title: Amazon Pre-Orders: No Release Date Delivery Option
Post by: CT on December 08, 2011, 01:35:13 pm
Sorry buddy, we kinda hijacked the thread. Now it's about Amazon pre-orders. Don't worry, I know what server we're going to. We'll talk about that on Sunday

Based on a post here (http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=11948216#edit11948216), it sounds like not all the servers will be 'available' at 7am on the 13th. So if we choose the last east coast rppvp server in the list at 7am, that might not be the same 'last on the list' server at the end of the day....

Q:
would still like a confirmation if youll be opening fresh servers throughout the early access period. Im sure you are but itll put some of us at ease

SR Answer:

We'll be gradually opening servers throughout Early Game Access, although by the end of December 13th we'll have quite a lot.

Anyone gonna address this?

Ithink from the posts I've seen they are going to have an initial list they will release before early access. I think we'll use that list to,pick.

I asked Stephen Reid if early access would at least have one RP-PvP server open. I have been at work and was not able to check for a response.

If you are not there at 7 a.m., check our forums and your email before logging in! We'll post the server as soon as we select it.

Just wondering what the reasoning for picking a east coast server was? Just curious.

Majority on east coast maybe. *Shrugs*

There was a poll done of all the RP-PvP guilds and a majority chose East Coast.

Apparently a dev did state in an email to Jaro (why they just can't post this I don't know) that one of each server type will be available at day 1 Early Access, meaning we won't have to wait on an RP-PvP server. There was also an interview at MMORPG today that states they are considering releasing at least a partial server list before early access.

Right now I'm more concerned with the fact that Amazon has fucked up my CE pre-order and can't offer release day shipping. With EA/Bioware taking away the grace period, even throwing an extra $10 at the problem has me waiting two and a half days before I can play after early access.

Shouldn't you be able to play regardless, having an active subscription and all that?
Title: Re: Be careful of which server to pick on ea
Post by: Tbone on December 09, 2011, 03:07:36 am
Bioware is not having a grace period. You will be required to enter a valid CD key to continue playing on the 20th. Without a physical copy of the game (since I'm getting CE), I will not have that CD key and therefore will not be able to continue.

Right now rumors are flying all over the place about Amazon, though. The most recent is that they are going to email you your CD key when your product ships. I've also heard that they will allow release date delivery after the 12th when they actually get the product. All of that is very inconsistent information, however.

PROTIP: If you ordered through Amazon, be sure to check your order and make sure you select "Release Date Delivery" for the shipping speed.

I had mine set for standard delivery, which means I wouldn't have received the game until after the 25th.

Hrmm.. I don't even have 'Release Date Delivery' as an option under shipping speed. I thought that was an automatic thing with Amazon... :/  It's estimating Dec 27 - 29 before delivery.

Amazon has always had a very liberal cover their ass policy with ship dates. They've done this to me in the past with pushing ship dates out further and further.

But.

They've always gotten things to me on the day of or day before release. (Specifically: Age of Conan (CE), Playstation 3, Warhammer (CE))

I'm not saying that they will this time, just that if I still have faith.

(Of course when I say "faith", I mean a digital pre-order backup plan. But I'm still hopeful about amazon!)

Chat with Amazon:

Me:BioWare is no longer offering a Grace Period for playing the game between Early Access and needing to input a game code from the physical box. I ordered from Amazon because I was told they do 'Release Date Delivery' -- I was checking my order to make sure, especially now, and it says estimated Delivery Dev 27-29, which is 7 to 9 days AFTER release. What's going on? Are game codes going to be emailed?

Stephanie:Hello, my name is Stephanie. I'll be happy to help you. How are you today Michael?

Me:Disappointed. :/

Stephanie:Sorry Michael.
I'm sorry Michael. let me check these for you!

Me:Great, thanks. :)

Stephanie:You're welcome!
At this moment, we are waiting for EA to send us the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector's Bundle, since the global release date for this game is December 20, 2011, we are expecting the packages on that day.
We are still in the process confirming the start date of the pre-order access code.
I'll be contacting you on December 13th when I have the best solution.

Me:Okay, yeah that sounds good. If you could keep me updated on what will happen.

Stephanie:Sure! I'll sent you an e-mail Michael!

Me:Thank you!

Man, that SUCKS.   I can't believe Bioware isn't allowing people a little leeway here.  Here's hoping that Amazon comes through, or at least emails the key to you.

Nocry, is anyone there at your home who can open the package and read off the key to you?

In your order history instead of clicking directly on the change shipping type button, click on the order number here:

It's supposed to be automatic, but like anything else, sometimes there are hiccups in the system.

I preordered Arkham City on the Friday before release, but for whatever reason when I did, Release Date Delivery wasn't available.  I was going to end up receiving it on the 21st, instead of the 18th.  I checked Amazon again on the 17th (Monday before release), the Release Date Shipping option was available and the option to cancel my order was not.  After a couple of "WTF"s and "FU Amazon"s, I talked with Amazon Support and the guy couldn't even see what the problem was.    He couldn't change the shipping method.  In the end, his solution was to cancel my order on his end, and for me to reorder with the available Release Date Shipping.  It worked, and I got the game on release day.

If you've got a Standard Edition preordered from Amazon and don't currently have Release Date Shipping, I'd suggest doing that.  Release Date Delivery is an option right now.

If you've got a Collector's Edition preordered, I don't think I'd chance it as CE is listed as sold out.  Maybe ask Amazon how their site updates inventory when people cancel orders.

In Amazon, go into "Your Account" and click "View Open Orders".  You should see all orders that have not yet shipped.  With TOR, there should be a button to change the shipping speed, as such:

Post by: Tbone on December 09, 2011, 12:41:38 pm
Ok, those of you posting pictures on how to change your shipping speed, please stop. Not everyone has release date as an option.

Avila: We only offer the Release-Date Delivery option after we've confirmed available inventory with our suppliers and are certain we can meet our delivery promise to you. Unfortunately; it appears that you placed your order before the Release-Date Delivery option was available and it won't automatically upgrade to Release-Date Delivery. In order to get this delivery option, you'll need to cancel your existing pre-order and place a new order for this item. Since the item is out of stock now, its not possible to cancel your existing pre-order and place a new order for this item using release date delivery option.

In other words, if you were quick to pre-order, you ordered BEFORE they had release date shipping available. Instead of emailing us to tell us about that upgraded option, they just allowed new orders to choose it and threw us in with the back orders that they aren't getting until the 20th. Nothing to be done. We can either pray that Bioware gives us a grace period or cancel and get a digital copy of the game.

lets be honest.. if you already got your preorder code allowing for early access.. and really cant depend on Amazon.. cancel your order.. you will still retain early access.. and go to your local game store (gamestop, walmart, etc.) and order you a copy.. most of these locations from my understanding will be carrying extra copies above and beyond the preordered amount.. except maybe the super collectors edition..

Alright so I contacted Amazon via phone and spoke with Kelvin the supervisor and Josh the guy above him....

I expressed my disappointment with Amazon.... Poor Kelvin and Josh.

What they explained to me is that they have two systems they are working off of when they view my order.  The order placement system and then the order shipping system.

The order shipment system shows that game is due to ship on the 19th and then arrive on the 20th.  That being the earliest date and the 22nd being the worst date scenario.

Not good enough for me so I told Josh we need to compare my order and shipment dates with the order and shipment dates of someone who had the option "Release date delivery"  If they match up then we all should be good to go...

Here is the catch I need someone who had the "Release Date Delivery" option to provide me with the following

1) Name exactly as it appears on their account
2) Email address the account is listed under
3) Billing address on the account
4) Order number for the actual game

With that information he will compare the two orders and make sure that the shippign side matches.    If you anyone is willing to do this please just post here and let me know...

DO NOT POST YOUR INFO HERE.

DO NOT PM ME YOUR INFO.

JUST POST HERE THAT YOU ARE WILLING AND THEN WE'LL WORK OUT THE DETAILS.

SO according to this:  http://www.swtor.com/preorder/faq#q209656

There is a grace period.  So my understanding is that if you preordered, you get early access game play for free up to the 20th just by using your preorder code.  However on the 20th, if you haven't put in your CD key from the box itself, you won't be able to play until you enter your CD key (product key).

So to clear things up, you will be able to play the early access time.  But if your package does not get to you before 12:01am on Dec 20th you will not get to play until you put that key in.

Huge discussion here as well:  http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=722366

Edit:  I know this doesn't solve the 20th game play issue but there seemed to be some confusion about the early access time.

There's no confusion. Grace period does NOT equal early access. The problem is that what's the point in getting to play the game 7 days early if you then have to wait a week or two after the 20th before you can continue playing. Players should not be penalized for ordering a physical, more expensive copy of the game. Period.

Honestly the more I find out, the more pissed I get. Did they just randomly upgrade people free of charge and leave the rest of us out to dry? So far I've been told the reason I don't have that option is because I ordered too soon, but it sounds like you guys did the same thing and got upgraded arbitrarily. I would hope that if BW recognise the issue, they would simply move the day that the key is required from.
Instead of the 20th, make it the 25th. Unless of course they are considering the holidays vs support requests that will probably triple when people can't get their key in correctly...

I suppose even 2 days grace period to the 22nd would work in most cases.

From a coding point of view, it doesn't seem like a big deal...

On September 26th, I got an email from Amazon stating the previous estimated arrival date of January 4th 2012 had been updated to December 23rd 2011.

On October 1st, I got the email stating I had been automatically switched to the available Release Date Shipping.

I live chatted with a representative yesterday who said I would receive an email once they got their inventory in that would notify me I have been upgraded to release date delivery. He also guaranteed I'd have it for release day. That being said, he was a complete moron who took ten minutes to type and could not put cohesive sentences together using the English language, so...

I figure at least I can use that guarantee as leverage later.

At no time has EA restricted retailers from shipping #SWTOR to be in players' hands on Dec 20. We've asked retailers to clarify.

Alright so just got off the phone with the guy... He compared my shipping side info to Fuse's shipping side info and it matched exactly.  He couldn't explain why I didn't get the option for the same release day delivery, but he assured me that it would be recieved like Fuse's on the same day.  Release day.

no for me Mr Jazzy - I got Friday's email and then spent Saturday trying to speak to someone to tell them I had a new credit card - got emailed (rather annoyingly as I was on hold with the muppets) saying my pre-order had been cancelled on Saturday night. Shocker.

Don't get me wrong, I usually hate them.  I had a similar issue with them a couple of months back when I was short of funds on my card (no joke, would have been a pound over my limit) my credit card company rejected the transaction.
They used to keep trying the card, or allow you to update the payment source.  But yeah, now they just cancel the order.  Sucks absolute arse when it's a limited edition or whatever.

Amazon Game Room says:

Hello,

Here's an update for customers who have pre-ordered Star Wars: The Old Republic that was scheduled to be released on December 20, 2011. Because beta access ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on December 19, 2011, we've decided to ship the game early to customers starting December 15, 2011. We'll be updating orders over the next two days and new estimated delivery times will appear in Your Account shortly after our updates are complete. These changes will be applied to your account automatically and there is no action needed on your part. Please see below for an update to estimated delivery times based on shipment method.

New Estimated Delivery Times for the Contiguous US:

* Release Date Delivery - on or before 12/19/2011
* One-Day Delivery - on or before 12/19/2011
* Two-Day Delivery - on or before 12/19/2011
* Standard Shipping - on or before 12/24/2011
* Super Saver Shipping - on or before 12/24/2011

Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and international addresses will also ship earlier than originally planned.

Once we've finished updating the orders, you'll be able to find your updated Estimated Delivery Time under "Your Orders" in Your Account:

http://www.amazon.com/your-account

Since extremely limited quantities of the Collector's Edition are available, we recommend not canceling an order for this edition unless you do not intend to order it again. Please note that customers who cancel and attempt to re-order the Collector's Edition may lose their place in line.

Please note that official game access is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on December 20, 2011. BioWare will be bringing down all servers for a short period of time before the launch of the game. You will be contacted in-game with details on this planned outage and when you can expect all servers to be back online.

We appreciate your patience and hope you enjoy the game.

Mine arrived this morning, I decided to downgrade to a standard edition. This lead to a disappointing unboxing when there wasn't a manual to thumb through and I already had it installed so I didn't need the disc. I just got a piece of paper with a number on it :(
