The proposed plan is to only deliver packages that weigh under 5 lbs and only deliver to a 10-mile radius of take-off point.

Yes we've all read the article.  My comments still stand.  As much as I'd like to jump up and down and proclaim this as the best thing ever, the tech just isn't there yet to make this a cost effective solution for this application.

There are however, many other VERY cost effective solutions that domestic UAVs can provide but that is for another discussion.

Yeah, I feel like this is like any other "future" thing that sounds cool and people think it's around the corner but no one thinks about how impractical it really is.

I remember an article that said we'd all be in flying cars by the year 2000. Where's my flying car?? The major flaw I see with this drone thing is that you have to live within a 10 mile radius of the Amazon location. Um, if the radius is only 10 miles, couldn't you get it to me faster via a delivery driver, a la pizza...

Not trolling, but as much as showboating can get you in the tech market, I don't know if Amazon is the kind of company that would would be considering this seriously enough to make a press statement on the matter unless they thought they could somehow be making some kind of return on their investment.

tbh it could be part of a larger backdrop on getting the FAA to deal with the potential of actual "highways" in the sky must like the USDOT and the states do now. This gets back to Tbone's point about flying cars. Technology aside, the regulations are a nightmare, but we need to start addressing these issues seriously as the technology becomes less hypothetical. That push is only going to come from those with money (aka  Jeff Bezos)
If all the world's problems were solved today, what would you have left to do tomorrow?

This is definitely a service that would only be available in a few key places and would cost an arm and a leg to actually use. I think the barrier of entry is if you fly using a private jet or not.

Since we are dormant, I have been casually leveling a Bounty Hunter and having a blast just enjoying Star Wars again.

The space fights are fun too.

Furious since 2006.

Come blow up internet spaceboats with me! Far from dormant lol. Right now we're making sure Gallente Militia keeps producing the cheapest, prettiest explosions this side of the janitor's closet!

What you mean "we" paleface?

Some of us never go dormant.

On a side note, space combat is sorta fun and a good beer drinking space combat romp.

On another side note Strod.. I'm also leveling a Hunter (my last class story ever).  Good times.

I was referring to the in game message. I think I'm level 11 or so, very casual but it's fun playing again.

I could go for a night of drinking and shooting down reds. :)

I think I'm still sub'd to SWTOR, and I haven't logged in for months. Should get back into it, but I hated the world generic quests; storyline was the only thing that interested me.

So I heard a security holocam went offline briefly today, claims from bystanders on the station suggest a radiant "white flash" of light was the cause.

It could be a hoax, but this distorted image is what was captured shortly before the holocam was disabled.

Furious since 2006.
