So what will you be controlling those light sabers with, or the trigger pull of that blaster rifle? Can't have any miss-fires now.

Heres what I plan to roll with when the time comes.

To be honest, Ive tried similar type game boards, (Im sort of a gadget freek), but for me I didnt like them.  Instead of making me faster or improving my peformance, what inevitably happened was they slowed me down.  The reason being was because I would need keys that were not on the pad and I would have to reach for the keyboard for those, ie if I had to type etc, so it slowed me down.  For me, nothing beats a good keyboard.   Im also sort of a keyboard nut. It seems like I collect them sometimes.

I'll undoubtedly still have my M11x by then which should be more than enough to run TOR on advanced settings.

T, Couple questions on your build...
-Money seems to be no issue for you, so why not build your own?

-Why 12GB of memory? Yes, "More is better" but you can save a lot of cash and cut that down. I thought I overdid it just a bit with my 8GB, but I plan to have this setup for years. What do you do with your computer that would require 12GB?

-Two GTX275's in SLI will hold you over for any game in the next 5 (and more) years. Great choice if you have the cash - but again, I see some savings here unless you are really doing a lot of graphics/video generation work. (Notice that's GENERATION, not encoding)

-Soundcard, really? With surround and digital outs onboard the ASUS boards, and also a really versatile Realtek HD Audio Manager, why the card?

I thought about getting that razor mouse, but I have absolutely no issues with my current G5 Laser mouse - Love it, in fact.
I also use to really want the first gen G15 board, but am also quite happy with my Saitek Eclipse II. This was kind of surprising because it was an impulse buy. (When I forgot my keyboard for the FA meeting last year)

I also considered an IBUYPOWER or a CYBERPOWER system, but decided I could cut costs and/or get more if I built - so I built. Turns out I just splurged a bit more than I would have and still ended up spending about $1900 total. But I did save a few things by keeping my hard drives and DVD writer.

Here is a spreadsheet I use for any builds I do with my latest the only items on it: http://tinyurl.com/LLHostComp
I usually put a whole bunch of options on there and start eliminating what i don't want or can't afford to get the best mix of pieces. Let me know if that link doesn't work for you. EDIT: I see it doesn't work - I'll get it somewhere that works this weeks.

A lot of these have dropped in price, I'm just posting what I paid.

I was actually really at my budget level until I added the water cooling and the SSD drive. Those 2 alone are over $500. I also could have saved $100 if I was patient and got the cooling kit without the VGA and Chipset block - but I couldn't find it anywhere. - but now frozencpu has that cheaper one and the one I got is OOS. lol

I have the G15 and it is a godsend in any situation that requires a quick combination of keys.  You program macros into the 18 "G" keys (with three different modes, for a total of 54 macros).  You can even allow for delays between keystrokes if necessary.

I used it in MxO and I use it in EVE.  Very handy.

Money used to be no issue. This is about two years ago, around my birthday. The whole idea was to future-proof the thing so that I wouldn't be constantly upgrading down the road. I don't know how to build my own computer and didn't want to do something stupid like get the wrong power supply and screw the whole thing up (which I almost did), so I got a "custom" build from a company, which is still better than buying something from Dell.

Every system I ever had, RAM was always an issue. Remember, it used to be thought that you would never be able to use an entire GIG of RAM, nevermind 2 gigs. I figure one day 8 and 12 will be "adequate".

The OTHER big problem I had with previous systems was video cards. It always seemed like it was a matter of WEEKS before I couldn't play the newest game. I didn't want to have to think about it for a while.

I have no idea about the soundcard other than that it came with the system, I believe, and was part of the core package at the time.

Like I said, at the time it was my birthday and I had just come back from London and no one even knew I was in town. My laptop was hopping on one leg and I had a lot of money saved up from doing my product demo gig for a couple of months. This computer is really the only thing I've allowed myself to ever splurge on (and the only time I've been able to), and I haven't regretted it one bit. I play a lot of games, do a lot of multi-tasking, video editing, sound editing, etc. etc.

It may seem like overkill, but it would be hard to go back to anything less!
