I've been following this tech for a long while. I'm convinced that we don't even know how good it's going to be or how it's going to be best employed. I can tell you I've seen a few possible apps that could drive this hard into the mainstream.

As Tbone and I have discussed at length, what the Leap Motion device allows is keybinding of finger gestures. The conclusion we've reached (I think) is that this will only be as good as the method/interface that exists to software. I still think there might be a VR hook here but the implementation remains a question.

Consider the most simple example like a touch screen or a virtual keyboard on your desktop. How easy will it be to map each key to a location? How easy will it be to make custom keys that perform a "macro" in an OS or a game environment? For example how long would it take to map a "open a new chrome tab and navigate to a website" so that Leap Motion would understand that?

I'll certainly be picking one up at some point - either the first batch released commercially or maybe the ones that are released this fall after they figure out what doesn't work well and they fix those things.

What I would really like to see is a Rift with a down-looking leap motion device that could monitor your hand motion while in a VR environment. Until then I'll use it and try to dream up some clever ideas about it.

Wireless. Ethernet connection is over 30 MBits/sec. Now I just need a power cord and life will get better.

Non-VR Games / WeekNIGHT Raid Group Scheduling

Hey folks. Checking in from the warm sunny state of Arizona!

Made the drive here from my folk's place in PA in 3 days without incident, averaging about 12 hours on the road per day, with an average landspeed of 66.5 MPH and getting 33.6 MPG in my fully loaded car. I consider this a win.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that my internet provider will be here on Thursday of this week (sooner if an open spot comes available) and my laptop power supply will be here between Wednesday the 19th and Monday the 24th.

I'll be trying out the old laptop this week but no promises on performance. My connection is 25 MBits/sec down and 15 up so I shouldn't be network limited. Hopefully I can dial down all my graphics and make a go at it Thursday evening at the earliest.

After a trip to the local electronics joint, they pronounced my power supply for my laptop dead. Since its a 150 watt supply they had nothing to help me. And because I'm on the road, I don't have an address to ship to. Basically I'm stuck for a few days with only the tablet and a backup laptop that's substantially underpowered for gaming.

So I'm going to say I'm most likely out until I arrive in Az on Sunday or Monday.
