My brother and I checked out Wildstar together and I was pretty unimpressed. Maybe I've been spoiled by cinematics and voice acting. The areas felt small, the quests repetitious, and the story quickly disappeared. It just became another game where I had 16 quests in my log and the hardest part was figuring out which order to do them in.

The game is tongue-and-cheek, and I think it would have been good IF they would have gone farther with it. There's a few "fuck yeah, you leveled up!" moments, but I just think they could have gone farther. The combat is your typical MMO stuff. It's responsive, but the animations don't match up with each other like they did in SWTOR.

Grouping was fairly easy to do, but some quest objectives wouldn't count for the both of us, and I couldn't find a way to share quests. There is apparently a mentor system, though. Also, for the trial, we could not create guilds or even "circles" (whatever that is).

Wildstar was pretty highly rated, so I thought it'd be pretty fun. I just found the whole experience to be pretty meh. I'd pay for ESO before Wildstar. The next one we're gonna try out is FFXIV

I recently came back to FFXIV after a few months of playing ESO.  I honestly couldn't tell you specifically why I'm loving FFXIV so much, but I am.  I'm very thoroughly a fan of the open-world sandbox free-PvP full-loot MMOs, and this is so far in the other direction I theoretically should hate it.  It's essentially a Final Fantasy flavored WoW, and apparently that's enough to make me enjoy it.  Classes are very narrowly defined into the three major roles of Tank, Healer, and DPS, and all content is based on that division.  The main story is meant to be played solo, with a few mandatory dungeons (4 or 8 man) thrown in, and because they are mandatory to enjoy the story they are fairly easy.  When you reach level 50, the content branches off a bit with 4, 8, and 24-man dungeons as well as hunts and certain FATES (open-world events).

Where I can see FA excelling and enjoying our time is the Binding Coil of Bahamut, the major end-game 8-man content meant for a static group of committed players.  It's the weekly lockout dungeon that saves your progress through each Coil (sub-sections).  It's quite reminiscent of the end-game SWTOR content we had specific raid groups schedules for particular times each week.

The game also just recently released Frontlines, the 24v24v24 PvP arena that is also something we could excel at and potentially enjoy.

Really, it all comes down to WHO you play with rather than WHAT you play.  I really do think that's a philosophy that SE embraces with FFXIV, and I hope at least SOME of you try it out and enjoy it.  If not, there are plenty of games on the horizon as well as Rust (which I've been watching and waiting for the experimental branch to overtake the official game to play again).

EDIT: Also, I'm drunk.  Please view any opinions expressed through that lens.

Gaming rig should be ordered by the end of next week, so I aim to be back PC gaming around the end of the month... who's playing what these days?

Mainly Rust. Dabbling in Defiance. Doing a few trials and beta tests. Currently waiting on my DK2 to arrive, which should be sometime this month.

I looked at Rust and I didn't think much of it. Defiance is the MMO based on the TV show (or the other way around)? I'm working my way through Last of Us on hard; never played it before and I'm literally stopping myself from playing it every now and then so I can elongate the experience. Holy hell, it's good. Proper survival, well on hard at least.

I honestly didn't think much of Rust either. When I first got on it I felt frustrated because of how unfinished it felt to me, even though I knew it was in alpha stages.

After I started playing it and got a feel for what it really was, I found myself playing it all day long, killing people and blowing up bases to raid people became a rush that made the game enjoyable.

Now when I finally started playing on the server with the FA guys, it just made the experience that much better.

Defiance is also fun, its not your typical MMO where you are constantly waiting on cool downs while mashing your number keys. It's more of a 3rd person shooter, plus it's free to play.

The Matrix Trilogy is playing on Syfy and I am always pulled into watching it, I can watch it over and over. I wish the game was still around.
