Good luck and enjoy the links...  You can eventually get to each of them from the first link but I'm giving you all a bit of a head start.  I like the seating chart one explore each page in detail, and I mean in detail... Check the preboard check in that was a nice touch.   Really I'd think it'd be cool if we had something like this for challenges but I'm sure it's way to expensive and complicated to mess with.  Oh and if you find out how to access things on Dharma Initiative or the Hanso Foundation sights let me know

when you go to this site, http://www.oceanic-air.com/seatingchart.htm,(the seating chart site) click on seat 42F. You get a cool animation and then see footage. Also when you click on the preflight check-in, you get 'ETHAN ROM' with boxes under the letters. Rearrange the letters to spell 'OTHER MAN,' and see what happens. Of course you have to drag and drop the letters into the boxes.

damnit, now i have to go buy season one cuz broin made it look so cool with the ARG links for the show.... argh

*maybe spoilers? highlight under this line to see what i wrote, but do not do it unless you want to receive a spoiler, as the information im going by might be totally new... *

perhaps they were just abducted by aliens while in mid-flight and just dropped on the planet with no memory, and are but a mere sociology test to study the behavior of humans in situations such as their's.....(The Hanso Foundation stands at the vanguard of social and scientific research for the advancement of the human race. For forty years, the foundation has offered grants to worthy experiments designed to further the evolution of the human race and provide technological solutions to the most pressing problems of our time.)

the dude is probably their show's antichrist figure, or an alien(fallen angel) in the form of a human that just may as well be the antichrist as lucifer is also known as lord of the skies in the book of daniel.

and i haven't even seen the show..

isn't the beam of light obvious... lols

plus lately, aliens are more associated with angels and demons... atleast in the bizarre alien world of mr. boombye ...(later seasons of x-files try to draw in close to this theory, as does the mini-series called 'taken')

Dharma.... Swans(the letter S).... Elegant and most beautiful winged creature is the Swan....

the yin to your yang  ;)

I promise I've never seen this show, but from what I've gathered... "The Dharma Initiative" is cool

perhaps someone forgot to press the magic button and got stuck in their own matrix

Too bad they kill off Shannon just as you start to understand or like her character.  I wonder what's up with "The Others" now that we know they actually exist.

Post by: Tbone on February 10, 2006, 02:15:42 am
Well, we know it is a Dharma project:

"Dharma (Sanskrit: धर्म, or (roughly) law or way) is the way of the higher Truths. Dharma forms the basis for philosophies, beliefs and practices originating in India. The oldest of these, widely known as Hinduism, is Sanatana Dharma or Eternal Dharma. Buddhism, Ayyavazhi, Jainism and Sikhism also retain the centrality of Dharma. In these traditions, beings that live in harmony with Dharma proceed more quickly towards Moksha, Dharma Yukam, Nirvana, or personal liberation. Dharma also refers to the teachings and doctrines of the various founders of the traditions, such as Gautama Buddha in Buddhism and Mahavira in Jainism. As the religious and moral doctrine of the rights and duties of each individual, Dharma can refer generally to religious duty, and also mean social order, right conduct, or simply virtue."

So on the basic level, we can assume that there is some force that is helping them proceed to personal liberation. We know that the good people are taken away. People with skeletons still in their closet are left behind. The question is how is it determined who is good and bad? We know the numbers seem to start a chain of events that lead people to the island.

The black cloud of death represents people's past. They can either continue to run from it or they can face it. If your not careful, your past will take you over. There is strong evidence of this in the episode with the drug dealing priest. When he confronts the cloud, if you freeze frame when the camera goes through it, you can see lightning flashes revealing images of his backstory.

The problem is that there are flaws with every theory. Purgatory is the most common theory, yet that doesn't really explain the video talking about a science experiment, the radio station frequencies, etc. At the same time, there seems to be supernatural, religious forces working on the island. Prophetic dreams hinting at baptism, religious symbolism, the judgement of a man's life. The island is an odd combination of science and the supernatural. The question is which is it? And how can it be both?

I tend to lean towards them all being dead and are LOST souls that are working through Dharma/Purgatory to attempt to achieve Nirvana/heaven, but that doesn't really explain why some people died during the crash, some were taken away shortly after, and others are left. And how can you die if you are already dead? Of course, that's a quote now isn't it. They definitely seem to want you to THINK that they are not alive, which means there must be a twist!

Notice the "CVII, CVIII" - Roman numerals? 107, 108, etc?  Apparently the map shows the DHARMA stations, but one of them is scribbled out.  I can see the word "Accident" at the bottom, but I can't make out the rest.  Also, the circle with the arrow pointing towards the Swan states "I AM HERE".

Maybe they're ALL mental patients. Hehe

What about the other's comment: "God can't see this place just like the rest of the world can't." Was he being dramatic or are we in hell? He also says "I am good." Another reference to the "good" people and the "bad" people.

I like how Sayid almost shot him.  I'm not sure who "Henry" is referring to when he says "He'll kill me" and "You have no idea what HE will do".  Ana-Lucia asked about the bearded man and Henry totally shot it down.  Who the hell is the leader?  The black smoke?

I definitely think Henry did enter the buttons.

I think he knows much more about the hatch, obviously, than they are leading us to think.  Remember during his conversation with Locke, he said "Nothing happened, except it sounded like something big starting up, like a magnet or something".  Ok, "like a magnet or something"?  That's not random, he knows what it is.

Also - at the end, when Libby and Hurley are leaving the cliff, Hurley asks "Do you really think I can change?" and Libby replies, "Yeah, I think you can.", her face turns from a bright smile to a look of disgust.  What the hell is her deal?
Title: The LOST Thread
Post by: Ash on April 06, 2006, 02:03:43 pm
Yeah I saw that too but don't really know what to make of it.  I think that look on her face was her disgust with having to lie to Hurley about how they really know each other.

*spoilers and answers  ;2) *

I remember in one of those making of things that they sometimes don't come up with a script til a week or two before(think i got that from jimmy kimmel's part on that 7th dvd where he visited the island)...I also thought that perhaps they were stealing ideas from people online since there are really good ones out there, such as this one which was out there a long time ago.

For example, this was first brought to my attention in November, but here's a revised version:

 http://www.4815162342.com/forum/viewtopic2.php?t=15038

(What adds credibility to this is that the Green Flash referenced to in there can also be seen on the ERI part of Hanso Foundation's website as we speak.)

What I found odd is that you can't find her as a guest star on TV.com, but I found her on imdb.com, and it says that she was in the final episode:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0026460/

That's the actress that plays Charlotte Malkin, the psychics daughter who supposedly drowned. The Malkins jobs under my assumption were to get Claire and Eko to the island, similar to what Elizabeth was up to on behalf of Widmore Industries. Sun's Father runs Paik-Heavy Industries.

Post by: Tbone on May 28, 2006, 05:45:28 pm
OoOOo... I may have a new theory on everything.

What if everyone on the plane is connected via relations or otherwise to the Hanso Foundation. "The Others" were humans who were tested on by the evil Hanso Foundation through the Dharma Initiative (either by signing up or involunarily).

Perhaps Hanso abandoned them on the island (finding some way to keep them there) after ditching the project. The research/experiment group ("Others") used the experiments to draw friends/family of Hanso big wigs to the island to get revenge or force Hanso-ians to let them off the island.

They subject the Losties to the same type of stuff they were subjected to and perhaps are seeking a way to ship the videos off to blackmail the Hanso people to let them all go.

Evidence of this?

-"The Others" refer to themselves as "the good guys", meaning there must be other "bad guys" that they are fighting against besides the Losties.
-We've seen Others possessing traits such as super-human strength, which could hint that they've been the result of a lot of testing on human genetics.
-As the show progresses, we learn that the Losties all seem to have some connection to each other and the Hanso Foundation.

Title: The LOST Thread
Post by: Jeyk on May 28, 2006, 11:04:44 pm
That he was.  He apparently took Claire and Charlie into the jungle by himself, but it's possible he had some help now that we know that there are plenty of Others.

He put a beating on Jack a few times, and was noticeably, excessively strong.

I like the basis of your new theory T, it could definately make sense.

I definately think that the Others knew that the plane was going to crash, regardless of the producers leading us to believe that it was an accident caused by Desmond.  During Ana-Lucia's conversation with Goodwin, she specifically states that Goodwan came out of the jungle approximately 10 mintues after they crashed.

Is anyone here an electromagnetism buff?  The producers have stated in a few interviews that key things in this show are indeed scientifically explainable.  I want to know, if they were harnessing electromagnetism, what the big discharge of energy was? Is something like that possible?  If so, any insight to the "violet hue" that the survivors saw, and the sound it made?

Another thing that kills me is that on that Blast Door Map, many of the dates refer to the late '80's, where it seems that quite a few, if not catastrophic, events took place, but if they recruited Kelvin (who left the US Army to join the DHARMA Initiative) in the last few years, I wonder how long they've had things up and running, with all the other hatches being abandoned.

This show makes you think.  The producers of LOST are going to hell.

As for the whole electromangetism, just research Hannes Alfven and Hans Orsted.

Orsted satellite was launched in 1999 and it's purpose is to monitor the Earth's magnetosphere or something...

Also it took someone 108 minutes to revolve around the planet from orbit... I read bout that in that Ultimate theory link i left on page  of this thread....

You should also look up Amelia Earhardt on wikipedia, and look up that part on when she went missing...you'll see something about two islands, the one that was her last known location, and the destination she was supposed to head to... The destination she was headed for, would make an awesome island for experiments.

MUST READ NOW!

Walt's comic! Given to him by Hurley. if translated literally, it's "Latern Green Flash", which is also something that Alvar Hanso is fascinated by, as you can see the Green Flash on their ERI section of their website under the different projects they run. You must read as it gives many clues as to what's going on.

LOST Magazine spoilers for season 3

Here are some snippets from the Lost Magazine (issue 6)

The question of why didn't the others take Jack, Kate and Sawyer in The Hunting Party will be a question that Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are going to ask themselves and they will have a incredibly satisfying answer to that question.

L. Scott Caldwell ((Rose)) said that the writers hinted that she had a daughter.

Damon Lindelof says that they will have more island flashbacks in season 3.

Damon also says that we will be finding out more about what the others did with Walt.

Damon says that we will be seeing the monster early in the show.

We will understand more about the whispers in season 3. It also says this "There have also been whispers of zoological stations on the show. So it would be wonderful to discover one... wouldn't it?"

Malcom David Kelley ((Walt)) says that Walt has powers but he doesn't know it yet and he doesn't know how to use them. But when he finds out he thinks that Walt is going to put those powers to good use.

They hope to have Brett Cullen ((Goodwin)) to come back in flashbacks. They called Brett for Maternity Leave but he was busy working on something else.

Michael Emerson ((Henry Gale)) says that the others will take Kate, Jack, and Sawyer to others-ville and that base will be a surprising change of scene.

"Will we revisit the swan hatch?
We will see the aftermath of what happened."

"Can we expect other characters to encounter the monster in the coming year?
Yeah. All I can say is you will be seeing the monster again, and fairly soon."

"Will we see some reasoning behind why the Others didn't take the opportunity to abduct Kate, Jack, and Sawyer when they first confronted them in The Hunting Party?
That is a very god question to be asking, and certainly a question that Jack, Sawyer and Kate will be asking each other themselves and their captors, very early on in Season3. But we believe that we have an incredibly satisfying answer to that particular question."

April Grace has confirmed that she's a recurring character in Season Three, as Miss Klugh.

"I'm back in season three, and one of the places the show is going to go is "Otherville". We are going to take our hostages back to the base from which we operate and that base may be a surprising change of scene for the audience."-Michael Emerson (Henry Gale)

"...and I think we'll be wearing shoes the next time you see us"-MC Gainey (Tom Friendly)

"Why did Walt appear to Shannon out of the jungle?
He was trying t tell her something but kind of did it at the wrong time (Malcolm David Kelley)"

anyone ever notice how long ms. klugh has been on the show?

Good stuff. So what I've gathered from the pieces of footage for the Lost Experience is that the island is part of an experiment to help the human race survive after their time has come to be wiped out. The Valzetti (or whatever) equation was completed and predicts when the end of civilization will occur, and so the island will become the new Garden of Eden. The equation was started by the superpowers during the Cold War (U.S., Russia, etc.) . Is that what you got?

Interesting...so they are infecting people with a virus, but they tell them there is a virus and that they must take the vaccine, when in reality the vaccine IS the virus. This was hinted at quite a bit through the wall, etc. We do learn that the point of it seems to be to find people with a certain genetic makeup. The Valzetti Equation can't predict WHAT kills off the human race, though, so why are they worried about that particular virus?

Actually this is NOT the last phase of the ARG... The whole hansoexposed.com is the second phase being wrapped up, with the first one being hansofoundation.com.... this second phase is the whole rachel blake thing... next phase will really kick off with the "whereisalvar.com" which is just now starting up.

apollocandy.com get your's today! and take a pic and put it up... a while back someone working for apollo candies(called himself mel0drama) said he'd help distribute a message for rachel(persephone), this is probably that time.

Lol, just watched the complete video. Rachel's an idiot...haha.

So...based on all that...a new theory...the Dharma peeps goal is to change the core numbers so that humanity doesn't die out. So far they've tried manipulating the environment in every way imaginable, just to be brought back to the same numbers. Desperate times call for desperate measures. They decide the only way to save everyone is to sacrifice many. The only variable left unchanged so far is the human race. Perhaps if they were able to change the number of the population drastically, it would keep humanity from becoming extinct. They don't want to kill just anyone, though. They have a theory that what makes us good and evil can be found in our genetics. They also have a theory that approximately 30% of the population has this "evil" gene. All they have to do is create a virus that only effects those with the "evil" gene, and they will save the good people and humanity, and also eradicate only those who deserve to be eliminated. The island now functions as an observation area to discover who is good or evil and then test them to see if the gene matches up. Finally, they apply the newest string of virus to see if it only kills the evil ones. Kinda makes sense...

I took Boombye's advice and went to the Hanso Foundation website http://www.thehansofoundation.org I then checked the source material of the site and saw this web address http://www.rachelblake.com.  It comes up with a blog site about a trip she took, a major portion of which is encoded in binary, I decoded that and got nothing but then decoded the gibberish using a "hex" key and got the following.  I have no idea what it means but enjoy!!

Quote
R -- I respect your caution.  Suppose it's warranted, after all you've come through.  I can't remember it exactly, but I think when we were in the stairwell in Paris, you muted the mic as I said "Because he wanted me to help you, and I can't question a man who would launch the Mental Health Appeal... to save a loved one."

ohh those encrypted msgs appeared on there and on the hanso foundation's shut down site, which is now reopen...

ill try to paste the messages in order..

The first message is from Rachel to Malick, and continues in the order.

Quote
Rachel: Conscience is keeping you in the fight, is it? Heard you call into DJ Dan. If you're talking about who I think you are, then you already know my answer.

Quote
Malick: I think it's fair to say, whatever conscience I have was built on faulty equipment. This is a matter of duty. Loyalty... Speaking of which, I've been troubled by the very recent disappearance of an old friend, de Zylva. We all saw your Sri Lanka video. You were captured at the end, and yet, there you were, blasting those Lost producers in San Diego not a week later. And, I have to wonder... did de Zylva have something to do with that? Do you know what's become of him?

Quote
I knew you were behind that. I just knew. He never told me, you know?

When I hit the ground I was sure I was dead. The camera was broken, they were dragging me to my feet... and then a burst of gunfire in the air. These were SCIENTISTS, unarmed. They hit the ground. But not Mittelwerk. He kept coming until de Zylva turned the shots in his direction. Once Mittelwerk was face down on the ground, de Zylva grabbed my hand and we were gone. With the camera.

He didn't talk. He said he was de Zylva, that was it. We knew Mittelwerk was already in pursuit, but we stuck to tunnels that had been dug out during various wartimes. We had some close calls. The goal was the American embassy in Colombo, but when we got there, we knew that was impossible. It was being watched -- the airport, too. de Zylva said The Hanso Foundation had too much influence in Colombo to take the risk.

And, then, they caught wind of us again. We knew we could be caught at any second, and the only important thing was that video. EVIDENCE of Mittelwerk's world-wide decimation plot. I'd planned for this. All I needed was a secure, high-speed connection. The Hanso goons knew it too. They surrounded the place while I was uploading. We barricaded ourselves, de Zylva knew an escape route. I barely got out, made my way to a friend of de Zylva's who could get me to India. I swear, I waited for de Zylva. But he never came.

I'm so sorry.

Quote
This is not your fault. As you once shouted at the top of your lungs, we've all got "blood on our hands." I just hope my friend is resting easy. Where are you? I'll need you to meet me in Norway.

Quote
Wish it were that simple. Fact is, as much as I want to, I still can't trust you. I want to believe you are the man who helped me in Paris, but de Zylva's name was not unknown. You could be Mittelwerk himself, springing a trap under my feet. I need confirmation it's you. I need you to tell me something only you could know.

Quote
I respect your caution. Suppose it's warranted, after all you've come through. I can't remember it exactly, but I think when we were in the stairwell in Paris, you muted the mic as I said "Because he wanted me to help you, and I can't question a man who would launch the Mental Health Appeal... to save a loved one." Say what you will about him now, his heart was once in the right place."

Quote
"I'm In NYC"

Quote
"You lived in 3 different apartments. Be waiting outside your second at 7:45 PM. I'm sending a car. Hope you remember the brand of iron you hit me with, because that's the code"

ok so these coded messages took place after hansoexposed.com, and all 70 video fragments were released, when we finally had that dharma orientation... at the end of that, mittelwerk noticed rachel and she gets chased and the cam cuts..

well these messages take place after she got caught, up until the weekend, and on the weekend we had the dj dan final broadcast which she calls into like 60 minutes into it(link provided above), after which she advises everyone to check out abc.go.com, but they quickly removed her new video the next day...i provided that final video as well on a youtube link up above...

after that all happens, thehansofoundation.org was somewhat re-opened with a special message from someone...in that message on the main page there, click on word "humanity", it should be right at the end of a paragraph that says something like  "-- our humanity".

enjoy

I was bored so I went over this past weeks episode and last seasons finale and I found out two more pieces of info.

1.  The Stephen King book the Book club was reading was "Carrie"
2.  Juliette (the blonde who questions Jack in this past episode) is actually Penny, Desmonds wife (or fiance).  Remember her father paid Desmond to leave her alone (for whatever reason).  Penny is also the women seen at the finale to season 2 when those Russians in Antarctica call to report the magnetic activity.  She's the person they call.

Is it safe to assume (based on what others seem to be thinking on the LOST forums) that the monster can manifest itself into a form that it can project into the mind of a person?

Jack's Dad, Kate's Horse, Yemi, etc.  I am sure that it has to do with many of the hallucinations on the island though, nonetheless.  Black Smoke induced hallucinations?

What the hell is this thing? Didn't it look like a hand when it was attacking?  It still sounds mechanical, but maybe it's a spiritual body of some sort because of thh way it can condense its form and move around freely?  Sci-Fi robot?  Physically manifested evil?  Maybe the smoke conceals it's real form?  Perhaps there's more than one component to it; a recon portion and a main portion?

I think the person in the other hatch is Radzinsky, the guy who was holed up with Kelvin Inman in The Swan.  He wears an eyepatch, and the tailies found a glass eye in The Arrow, along with the bible that contained the missing portion of film from The Swan's orientation video, all in the same box.  Remember that when Desmond asked Kelvin about the edited parts of the film, that he claimed Radzinsky was responsible for it?  Perhaps he's still alive.

I think his location may very well be "The Flame", the other hatch that was labeled on the blast door map in The Swan.  Obviously he knew about the station if he was capable of adding the name along with the logo on the blast door map.  So far we've seen The Caudecus, The Arrow, The Swan, and The Hydra.

Well, following the theory that they, at one point, were trying to change the world's population in order to avoid the extinction of humanity but that they only wanted to destroy "evil" people, I'd say the black smoke was a "Judgement Day" experiment that went wrong.

It can get in the minds of people and discover their demons. If a person's good nature is unable to be determined, the black smoke can manifest itself to force the person to choose their good or evil side and then destroy the person if they make the wrong choice. Perhaps it was flawed and only finds the bad in people, hence why they abandoned the project and geared towards the virus. It certainly seemed the black smoke was not prepared to attack until Ecko clearly was not sorry for his demons.

In other news...muuuuutiny!

So how many folks are still keeping up with good ol' LOST?

These last two episdoes have had some very interesting things happen, particularly this last episode.

I'd like to get everyone's opinion here - do you think Desmond actually traveled back in time, or was he trapped in his own subconciousness?  Feel free to elaborate upon what you think.

Me, personally...I'm not sure.  The oracle copycat keeps me skeptical on whether or not he traveled back in time.  Was her presence meant to lead us into thinking he was in a lucid dream-like state of some sort? I'm leaning towards that he did travel back in time, but "fate" or the "course-correcting universe" took over to set things back the way they were supposed to be.  I don't know.

I heard a theory that the oracle copycat had the ability to know when people would die, and that is the power that Desmond now has.  The last two "flashes" were related to Charlie, and the first flash about Locke's speech could have been related to Eko's death.

Hmm...what do you all think?

Also, did anyone catch the scene where Jack, while sewing Ben back up, asked Tom "Why couldn't you just take him to a proper facility for this?" or something of that nature, and Tom replied "Well, since the sky turned all purple...", and then he was cut off when Jack nicked Ben's artery by accident?

I wonder how much damage that charge being released caused...you'd think something that big would knock out the adjacent "Alcatraz".

No No... I'm obsessed as well... On the topic of desmond... maybe he didn't "Travel through time per say... I'm thinking more along the lines of as a side effect of the explosion his life flashed before his eyes... past and future. I don't know if the flashback to before the island was time travel or his subconscious trying to make sense of the fact that he just witnessed flashes of his future. I'm leaning towards subconscious because of the old lady that knew what was going on. But I do believe he has flashes of what's to come. Also, since the only "real" evidence that he can't change fate was in the flashback... perhaps it's not entirely true and he can prevent Charlie's death... at least I hope so.

I actually didn't catch the purple sky remark... Interesting. Perhaps the electromagnetic energy let loose in the explosion knocked out the others communications with the rest of the world. It would make sense that the explosion might of been somewhat similar to some kind of uber-EMP pulse. We'll have to wait and see if anything else comes of that.

Look up "Djinn" or "Jinn", we call them Genies in the west. But yeah, that's pretty much what smokey is, since it has the same abilities as the Djinn.

Once you just read up on it, it'll make more sense to you.

The only problem I have with that is it's a mythological explanation. Everything that's happened on the show that was seemingly unexplainable and then explained has been scientific. I have a feeling that other such things like the monster and Locke's ability to walk will be that same.

When I was watching it from the beginning of Season 1 through the end of Season 5 in less than a month, it seemed like the story flowed really well. I got the impression that the overall arching storyline is still very much in tact. Over Christmas, if APB isn't in full Beta yet, I plan on re-watching all of the episodes again to see if I can pick up on stuff that I missed the first time. My suitemate watched the first three seasons with me and said that he appreciated a lot more things going through, episode by episode, a second time.

However, from the point of view of someone who watched it season by season, episode by episode, the story would seem very slow and convoluted. I know I would have been extremely frustrated with the show, too.

But Hulu has Seasons 1-4 in HD. WATCH IT (again)!

Spoiler Alert: First 4 minutes of the first episode released to contest winners. Here's the first 4 minutes:

My theory about this season is that they'll be going back and forth between two realities. One reality being that everything has been erased and they landed at "LAX". The other reality is the MiB Locke and others still on the island. I'm curious as to if some losties will be in the alternate "nothing happened" universe and the rest will be on the island or if everyone will still be in BOTH universes. For instance

Spoiler: In the video above, Charlie never runs down the hallway like he did in the alternate version of that scene (the pilot episode). Does that mean Charlie isn't in the alternate universe? I can only assume that he is, though, since he's signed to be back on the show. That scene has a few differences than the one it used to be.

If there are two universes, though, how will they work themselves out? Will the final moment of the series be someone telling Jack that he must choose the "reality" that happened? Does he subject himself and others to the island fate or maybe something worse happens when they never crash and he must decide between the two evils. And then the final moment is him silently making the choice and then quick cut to black with us never knowing what he chose!

You have to remember a lot of the talk about the course-correcting nature of the LOST universe.

There won't be any "choosing" of different realities because there is only one reality. The circumstances might change a bit (Charlie's death was inevitable (a constant) but Desmond (the variable) changed the how Charlie died), but the destination will be the same. Each of our Losties is a variable... but the end-game is a constant.

Okay, I have about a million thoughts that I have to get in order.

First, Man is Black IS the Smoke Monster! Wow, I know the clues were there but it still came as a shock seeing it for real.

Richard! What is he going to do to Richard? And Richard was in chains? Was he one of the slaves on the Black Rock? A prisoner of the Man in Black?

The Temple! Incredible! More than I could ever have imagined.

And the events on the plane and at the airport! Alternate reality?

And Jacob's list! I never took the mention of lists seriously--that honestly blew my mind.

And what about that shot of the island being under the ocean--crazy!

Okay, that's all I can process at the moment.

EDIT: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/The_Numbers

Also, 108 was not important.  It was simply a number to get Hurley to turn the mirrors so that Jack would see the reflections when it moved.

So in the most recent episode, Widmore shows up on an evil submarine. Wait a sec...is that who Jacob said would find his way to the island? Did Jacob want Widmore to come to the island? Even Richard doesn't trust Jacob anymore. This episode did seem to be setting up Ben becoming MiB and Jack becoming Jacob, though Ben didn't choose that path, so....hmm....

And favorite moment: Ben saying "because he's the only one who'll take me" was absolutely heartbreaking. What a great actor!
Title: The LOST Thread
Post by: Adad on March 09, 2010, 11:30:13 pm
good episode. Yes Widmore is who Jacob said was coming. I feel Richard felt like he was lied to only because he was told he'd have a big purpose by jacob and he died so he feels it was all a waste tho I think we will see his true purpose soon. Note on Richard, interesting that he alluded to the fact he came to the island originally on that ship that is in the middle of the island w/ the dynamite...what is that, like a 15th century type ship? Interesting.

I totally agree it hinted toward Jack becoming jacob obviously as he's beginning to believe he has a higher purpose, as if he's realizing "he is the One"

Looking forward to seeing why Jacob would want douchey Widmore there...

According to an article bit on Lost on io9.com, the producers have said that Kate is not a candidate.

According to the Lostpedia wiki, Carlton Cuse has confirmed that Kate's name is crossed out, but it didn't make the final cut.  However... It says 51 was the name Austen, and was not crossed out.  It says it could be referring to Sam (The man Kate thought was her biological father), or Aaron (who went by the name Aaron Austen).

Yeah, I saw that interview where he said that Kate's name was on the wall, but the editing room just didn't include it in the final cut. He says the name was crossed out, but I almost think he said that by mistake. Even if it was by mistake, chances are she isn't going to be "the one"...lol.

So the latest episode, while not saying too much, indirectly got a lot clearer on a few points. Spoilers ahead...

Despite there being the possibility of deceit on both sides of the fence here, what we've discovered is that the island is a prison for a dark force or evil or hell incarnate, presumably MiB. Jacob's job is to keep the evil contained to the island, because if it were to escape, the corruption would spread throughout humanity and the world. They went as far as to call MiB the Devil and the island hell in this last episode.

To pass the time, Jacob and the Devil have an ongoing argument about whether man can withstand the lure of corruption without interference. Jacob sounds very similar to the theory about God creating and then giving man free will. Jacob brings man to the island to see how he can fare against corruption without directly getting involved. The Devil, however, tries to manipulate and corrupt man. So Jacob brings people to the island for his experiment, and more recently as a replacement for if/when he is killed.

A few other interesting things. MiB has talked several times about how he was once just a regular man. Now he says that Jacob took his humanity away from him. Also, the description of how to kill Jacob was the same description of how to kill MiB. Ben killed Jacob well after Jacob started talking to him, though.

One very interesting thing is the flash sideways. In the flash sideways, the island is sunk, implying it is no longer acting as a prison for the evil. Does this mean that in our flash sideways, the dark force is free and spreading? Or did something else happen that made the island obsolete? Either way, it adds more weight to the fact that the island is done for. It definitely looks like the flash sideways are what happens AFTER the series finale and not what would have happened if the bomb had gone off.

Nah went by on a sunday... not sure if they would be filming then or not but I thought it was rather interesting to atleast see the place.  It was a shame I didn't see any T-rex's or Raptor's around either but im not sure which island jurassic park was filmed on.  Yeah I survived the wedding now the trick will be to survive the next 60 some odd years... omg what have I done. lol

A couple of interesting things from tonight's episode (Desmond). Almost the entire episode was Desmond in the alternate timeline. Spoilers ahead:

So Widmore puts Desmond in an electromagnetic chamber to make sure that he can survive it for some other purpose (we're told, anyway). This jolts Desmond into the alternate timeline with no knowledge of the island (much like the others). Here's what is clarified it seems...

Having a near death experience in either timeline seems to show clues about the other timeline. The clue you see has to do with your constant/your love. Charlie sees Claire while choking on the heroin and Desmond sees a Penny reference. Near death doesn't seem to be the only way. Daniel sees Charlotte which triggers him writing out a quantum formula in his sleep about the island timeline. Desmond also sees more of Penny while getting an MRI (exposure to electromagnetism). Now Charlie, Desmond, and Daniel are "awake" in the alternate timeline, though somehow Daniel knows a lot more than he should (as far as saying that he thinks he set off a nuclear bomb and that it changed everything...no answer as to how he could be that specific, except...)

Charles Widmore and Eloise seem to be aware of the alternate timelines. Alternate Eloise for sure seemed to hint that she knew exactly what was going on with Desmond and even went as far as to say "see how well everything turned out for you". Widmore in our island timeline also seems to know about the alternate timeline, as it seems that's what he wanted to show Desmond in order to convince him to help him with whatever comes next.

So the people who are aware of the other timeline:

ON ISLAND: Desmond, Widmore, maybe Eloise (though she isn't on the island)

ALTERNATE TIMELINE: Desmond, Eloise, probably Widmore, Charlie, Daniel

An interesting note. Everyone except for Desmond, Widmore, and Eloise who is "awake" in the alternate timeline is dead on the island. Also, we have not seen Juliet in the alternate timeline yet, and since her island self seemed to be aware before she died, she might also be somewhat aware of the island.

So now alternate Desmond is going to try and wake up the other passengers of the flight (so he seems to be awake enough to know that the plane had something to do with it) I'm guessing through either near death, electromagnetism, or figuring out who they love. Meanwhile island Desmond might be trying to do a similar thing with Widmore (or do something to get rid of MiB and get everybody to their happily-ever-after timeline). So is Widmore's endgame to get everyone's consciousness to the alternate timeline? Are we rooting for him now? Jacob seemed to want Desmond to get to the island to, so I guess we can put Widmore in the good guy corner.

This episode seems to debunk my theory that the alternate timeline is what happens after the series finale event (Daniel stated the bomb was the cause), though you can't quite rule out that the series finale gets everyone on the same page (or same universe, as it is).

Also interesting is that even though not much seemed to be answered for Desmond in his flash to the sideways world, he awoke back on the island with this calm about him. It reminded me a lot of Locke's weird calmness when he was possessed by MiB. Desmond didn't even flinch when evil Sayid "rescued" him from Widmore at the end.

As a matter of fact, Desmond kinda had a Jacob-esq calm to him...hmmmmmm....

AAAAHHHHHHHHH.

Actually, I predict this episode will be another set-up episode for the next episode, which was written by Lindelof and Cuse. This one was written by the same two who did Recon.

And, sadly, I saw the title of the next two episodes after this one. Needless to say, I feel they spoiled things for me.

Neither of those are Locke's fiance. That's Allison Janney and some random chick. Who are they? Well, from the tidbits I've heard, next episode is going to be about Jacob and MiBs origins. I think I heard that Allison Janney was playing their mother. So I think one of those chicks is the mom that MiB says was "crazy". Remember the "I have something in common with Aaron...my mom was crazy too".

I've come to terms with the fact that we're not going to get straightforward answers to anything. It helps me appreciate everything more. As far as I'm concerned, pretty much everything has been answered except for what happens in the end.

If you're hoping to know who created the "light" or exactly how some of these people are immortal, I don't think that's going to happen. It's just the island is the source of life, death, rebirth...power, essentially. The island has a protector. Mysterious things happen. People have powers.

I mean, it's never explained how Superman is able to see WHILE shooting lasers out of his eye. Shouldn't the laser block his field of vision? And why does rock from his home planet suddenly become fatal to him? Because of the yellow sun?? If anything, shouldn't kryptonite be radioactive to humans??

It's just the mythology...you're not gonna get detailed answers to everything.

Absolutely - I know what you mean.  The smoke monster in particular was my personal iconic mystery of the show, and I was appropriately obsessed with it.  Therefore, I was naturally fixated on specificity when they revealed its/his origins.
