Oculus Rift DK2 Specs
« on: March 19, 2014, 01:32:44 pm »
Specs for DK2:

-$350
-Ships in July
-Pre-order now
-1080p AMOLED pentile display (consumer will be higher res)
-Low-persistence (no motion blur/no simulator sickness)
-75 hz (consumer will be 85)
-Positional tracking with IR camera (included)
-90-110 FOV
-Improved optics using special resin (bigger sweet spot)
-Slightly heavier than DK1
-No global display (consumer will most likely have this)

The specs and release date for the consumer version have not been announced, but once again Oculus recommends not buying the developer kit unless you are developing VR content, stating that the consumer version will be a much more polished experience.

What does this mean:

-No global display (consumer will most likely have this)
"To the darkened skies once more and ever onward."

A global display lights every pixel at the exact same time. Without it, pixels wipe in/out. In most cases it's unnoticeable, but for VR it helps to make sure there's no delay. That's the jist of it but I wish I knew it in better detail.

I thought it it meant like a unified HUD for settings and what not.  I googled it with mixed results.
"To the darkened skies once more and ever onward."

Nope, definitely unified pixel switching. I believe Oculus is making up for it in the software for now.
