Title: FA 10 Year Anniversary Party!
Post by: Tbone on December 27, 2013, 07:40:54 pm
So this coming year marks our 10 year anniversary! Wow, what a milestone! While things have been a bit quiet lately, I expect 2014 will be a big year as we get closer to the launch of the Oculus Rift and hopefully a juicy online game or two or three to go with it!

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, I'd like to throw another FA get together in DC - the last one we had was when MxO shut down. We all have busy lives, which is why we wanted to try and plan some dates early. We're thinking sometime in April (my birthday is on the 28th, so maybe I can just throw one big party!).

Another reason to plan the date ahead of time is that Broin has promised if we can get him the date soon enough, he will be there. That's right. Meet Broin in person. I'm not sure anyone needs more incentive than that!

So respond if you're interested in making the trip! Also let me know what dates work for you in April/May/June. My place is larger than last time - I have about four couches. I also have a friend who can possibly get cheap hotel rooms close by. I'll check on that.

We may also hear about a consumer launch date for the Rift in January. I'm not expecting April for that, but who knows!

I really want to attend this, as far as dates I would just need to know the when and duration of the event so I can make arrangements.

Will be keeping an eye in this thread to see how things take shape.

Right now the last weekend in April is completely open for me. Thinking fly out thursday night or friday morning, fly back the next tuesday/wednesday? Longer? Shorter? Got crash space with your roomies or can we try to get a group rate on a nearby hotel?

Or hey, if anyone wants to drive near Texas on their way I can pitch in for gas money. I'll hit up Zephix and see if he wants to try and get down on this as well.

*Checks finances*

There's... a strong possibility that I could be there...

The last weekend of April, or the first weekend of May, would be incredibly convenient.

Jesus christ, ten years already?

Jesus christ, ten years already?

I need this to happen in my life.

I just want to drink, talk about life, play some games, and have fun with friends.

Then I'm going to give Anamodiel a big sloppy REDACTED kiss.

Just let me know the date we pick and I should be able to attend with enough notice!

So it looks like we'd possibly try somewhere around April 25th. My birthday is that Monday, the 28th. Assuming I still have the same job, I'd just try to get as many shifts covered that week as needed depending on how long of a party we want to have!

For those who may be traveling with family (or just want to shack up at my house), I can also put up 5-7 people with their own beds between 3 guest rooms and the rec room in the basement (up to 11 if people bring sleeping bags/cots -- did so just recently here for christmas, lots of fun) and there's access to 3 full bathrooms (well one is in master bedroom). I live about 30 minutes north of Tbone.

Applebees is the target, warp to zero and jump on contact!

It would be nice to see DC, hang out with the old gang and do another bar crawl.  I'm definitely interested.

Damn, son, we need to do some parties at your place! Though I guess you have a home for a "family" rather than for a house party...haha!

Maybe this time I'll make it to seven beers instead of six before getting annoyingly shitfaced.

April 25th wouldn't be good for me.  The weekend before or after works well for me though!

Actually April 18th works really well for Jess and I.  We both have Good Friday off.

I have been busier than a damn beaver. As long as we do something after April 15th (tax day, duh), I'll try my damnedest to be there. I'll need to know dates by early February so I can request a long weekend off and book a flight into DC. Otherwise, I do recall that I owe some people drinks, unless my drunken memory fails me.

Has a date been settled? I'd like to request my PTO as soon as possible.

It turns out I'll be back in DC come November, and I'll have the wife in tow. Maybe she can meet some of the disembodied voices she's heard coming from my computer over the years.

It's looking like it's going to be that last weekend in April. I lost my job, so that's made my schedule a bit more unpredictable than I initially thought. I'm currently job hunting, and hopefully as soon as I nail down a new job, I'll know what sort of flexibility I'll have.

Drop me a line when you do! Kirsten thinks I make up imaginary friends :-/

My friend went home to Auburn for the holidays and brought back some of his own 195-proof Alabama White Lightning. I think if we're stealthy enough we can slip some into Broin's drink without him noticing. :P

Ok kids, my job stuff has settled down a bit, and barring anything crazy, I'm gonna try and get the last weekend of April off to host this! April 25-27 (my birthday is on the 28th!). If you come early or stay a little late, that's fine. Just know I may have a work shift or two somewhere in there. I'll provide more details as I make them!

In case Tbone runs out of room or people would like to come, but would need to bring the family along and don't want to thrown down cash for a hotel, I am still offering a staging area on the north border of DC (about 14-15 miles north of Tbone I believe). Metro is nearby for family excursions; also, downtown Silver Spring is officially yuppie, House of Cards said so!

Currently the basement guest room is occupied, however, if you're coming as a couple and/or with children, the other two main floor guest rooms are available. As well there is a futon, a couch, and a couple air mattresses for those accepting of such accommodations.  Of course the authentic FA experience is staying with Tbone, just throwing my offer out for anyone interested.

Bonus, act now and get free pick up from the airport (BWI, DCA, or IAD) -- Offer expires April 25th.

Let's see...If I'm going to go through the trouble to use FA's 10 year anniversary as an excuse to visit DC again and hang out with friends sans the wife and kids, do I really want to crash at "Nursery del Dago?"

Decisions, decisions...

I have almost no PTO left. Lots of time taken off over the last year for the new baby. I -may- have enough closer to April, so for me it will be a last minute type of thing. IF I do attend, I'll probably drive over. Love road trips.
