Title: SWTOR Guild Summit

If we'd like to attend, I'm in Texas and I'd be willing to make the trip down for the summit. They seem to have already sent out invites to numerous other guilds with all expenses paid. At this point it is pay your own way.

I expect to be in Austin around this time as well.

I'm just curious how they chose what guilds got all expenses paid invites before they ever requested sign-ups. It was nice to open it up to folks that want to pay their own way, though.

Hopefully they invite quite a few additional guilds from the new sign-ups they receive.

We organized a community-ran version of this in Fallen Earth and invited the developers. It was held completely on ventrilo, but provided some awesome back and forth on design decisions. I can't say it was productive in that game, but mainly because the Fallen Earth team was slowly layed off piece by piece until it went free to play and hardly anything was released content-wise. :P

Hopefully, with someone like bioware behind it, that won't be the case here. If the discussions go anything like they did in Fallen Earth, it should be interesting.

Here's to hoping it's not just a PR stunt. :P

I could take time off and go to this; I'm about 4 hours away in Houston.  Plus it would be good to get our name out there.

Same here Zipper! What part of Texas?

I hit Beaumont quite a bit as my brother and his wife stay down there. We come back through Houston on our way back up to Eastern Texas (Near the Tyler/Longview area, if you're familiar) to his the Asian market there.

I haven't been able to get my wife to San Antonio or Austin since she moved down here back in 2009, but I'm looking to change that this year; and probably soon before it gets too hot.

All expenses were not paid.  They clearly pointed that out.  They said they helped reserve discounts and such but everyone has to pay their own way.

Actually... read what Reid said towards the end of this post...

"When we started planning the Guild Summit, we decided we would invite a select number of guild leaders to Austin at our expense, just like the Fan Site Summit. In addition, we decided to open applications to all guild leaders who were interested in attending at their own expense. "

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=2416466#edit2416466

They paid for those that were invited before they opend it up to the "public" to sign up and pay their own way. They are paying for some private invites to attend. It's just those that sign up now who have to pay their own way.

I'm up East of Dallas, and the drive to Austin isn't too terrible. Duoi is nearby as well. Would love to do this, or at the very least have a get-together.

I had no idea there were so many FA in Texas. We should have a party somewhere, for sure.

My apartment is small or id host. Maybe we can just rent some place out for an FA event.

We used to have this nifty map on our site where you could list your location.. it was cool because you could see where other FA members were in relation to you.. I have no idea where that went though.

Unfortunately I live nowhere near Texas and cannot afford the trip. We might be able to send someone in my place, but I'd prefer it at least be a long-standing member of the guild.

I feel very strongly that we need to be represented at this by a senior member.

Right now i'm looking at Feb 29th - March 4th to be in Austin, but could see if the woman owuldn't mind moving that around a bit... Though she hates swtor and fa enough right now for taking so much of my time, she may just leave me in Austin if I go to this. :)

In all fairness, from what I've heard of different members we have some pretty wide range of views on "the perfect game."

Although none of us really know what questions they're going to ask (if any) I think that whoever ends up representing us should probably be prepared a bit anyway.

Although we discuss a lot here on our FA forums, there are a lot of topics that are discussed either in teamspeak by a few members at a time, or not at all.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start a few threads to get a general idea of what we'd want to present to the developers if we do get a face to face and a chance to voice our most wanted features or bug fixes/changes to mechanics.

I'd never want to give a developer my current opinion of expertise in PVP, for example. -Because I know there are people in this guild who are actually OK with a pvp stat and love gear rewards, even though I absolutely hate it and think gear is a horrible way to reward people for the PVP grind. I'd rather see a ladder system and PVP that is skill-based. -But (and back to the original point) not everyone would want a system like that, so presenting it when representing all of FA would be... unfair to everyone else in FA at the very least.

So the point is, as mentioned before, maybe we should discuss these things a bit more regardless of who ends up going (if anyone at all, pending Tbone's invite).

So I submitted an application to attend the guild summit. Broin's letting me use some of the coin money to possibly go. Airline tickets are fairly cheap to get there at the moment, so it might be possible.

One big problem is I need to find a new place to live. I need to find a place, find the money to afford it, and make the move before March 1st. If I can get all of that locked in so that I feel comfortable enough to do it, I'll try to make this trip. I can possibly save some money if I can crash at someone's place or double up on a hotel if anyone is going to be in the area anyway.

Also, let us know if you run short for the trip.  I would be all for a paypal donate button to get you there and represent FA.

If your app gets approved can we start a thread of questions and concerns to take with you?

Fuse, you want to share a room then? I'm not booking anything until I get confirmation of an invite.

Maybe. I'm waiting on tax return money to book, so don't have details yet. Will get a hold if you once we flush out details.

Should we just extend this to an FA meet up/lan party? We have a lot of people in or near Texas, and we could have a blast in Austin!

Guys, I live in Austin, Texas. I am currently working in California but my apartment lease is good through April 1st. If you need a place to crash I can make arrangements for you to use my apartment while you are in town. I do not know where the actual event is but I live in North Austin.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I probably will not be in town (I will more than likely be in California working) but getting you in wouldn't be a problem.

Meh..

They said there would be some kind of alternate method for "attending" online. I guess that unless they do late invites, we'll just have to use that method.

I just got my rejection email:

"Hello,

Thank you very much for applying to attend the Star Warsâ„¢: The Old Republicâ„¢ Guild Summit in Austin. At this time, our attendance has reached its capacity and we are unable to offer you a space at the event. We have added you to a waiting list and will contact you if space becomes available.

Please do not make any travel arrangements to Austin at this time. The event has strictly limited capacity and we will be unable to accommodate any unconfirmed attendees on-site.

If you have any additional questions, please email guilds@swtor.com.

Thanks,

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Team"

Well that is a pretty sure %100 "no" but if they do contact you, and you can't go I can just tell them I'm you.
Your other option is to come down anyways and have drinks with Lath and I.

Well, with this move I have to do at the end of the month, it's probably for the best that I'm not taking a trip. Still, I can't help but be disappointed.
