Medal of Honor Open Beta
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:28:41 pm »
This is running 10/4- 10/7.  Download it from STEAM.
I played it for a while last night.  It was ok but I wasn't overly impressed.  The graphics were just kinda meh.....   I did like the absence of the bs perks ala COD.  I'm going to play a little more tonight to get more of a feel for it.

I will also mention that it almost seemed too easy.  I placed in the top 2  on my team in most of the matches I played which just isn't normal even in shooters I play regularly.

You can only play in the beta if you own BC2 and pre-order MoH?

Those are some steep rules :[

Frankly, I was not impressed at all. Just enough lag and choppiness to make an FPS unplayable. Messed with the settings at length to make sure I wasn't running too high for my system. At highest settings and lowest settings, same amount of lag. Actually, I'm less tempted to call it lag and more tempted to call it slow response time. That 1/4 of a second between clicking my mouse and actually firing. Hopefully its the early servers the beta is being hosted on or something else tied to an early beta build, but I found it pretty much unplayable.

I'm also willing to bet its being developed with consoles in mind, bad news bears for us PC-ers.

I didn't have any issues with slow down/lag at all.  It just seems like yet another generic FPS very loosely based on modern styled warfare. They didn't bring anything fresh......unless you count the ability to grow a a full beard as you progress into the upper elite levels. What the heck does that have to do with gameplay?  Or even the ability to blend in with the other team? What a useless feature.

I did, however, discover why it seemed so fake and easy to me.  The weapon audio sounds good but there is no recoil and as in most games of its type it takes half a mag to take down one guy unless you are using a good sniper rifle. So of course you know how that plays out.  Over all the weapons don't seem to have any real punch or heft to them.
