Off Topic / Re: iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II
« on: November 01, 2011, 09:51:51 pm »
I love my Samsung Galaxy S (ATT Captivate specifically), the only real complaint I've ever had is the thing feels light. I traded up for the Galaxy the day my iPhone contract was up. Mostly because the iPhone felt slow after I upgraded the iOS, and the wall garden Apple keeps you in. If I want to do anything with my Galaxy, I know I can.

I never need another skin again. I'm so glad I'm going, may be at the Riot booth all weekend though.

I have the day off because my eight year old niece is visiting...I really have no idea how to entertain a child.

A PC controller, emulator, Super Mario 3.

I personally hate multiple interviews. I would much rather have a panel interview and be done with it (save for an hr/screening chat). I will say also, be aware of the company culture so you don't dress better than your interviewer (within reason). When I worked at an engineering/manufacturing company the head of my department (one of the hiring managers as well) would make fun of the kids who wore nice suits when they came in for their interview. That said, if you're not sure, where a suit/dress combo that can still look good if you remove the jacket and/or tie.

The rule I live by is dress one level higher then the standard work attire for that position. So if standard dress is jeans/tshirt, wear jeans and a nice button up. Slacks and a collars shirt, go for a tie. Ties worn, wear a jacket. Etc.
It helps people see you fitting into the position. I also go with eye contact, and attempt to mirror the interviewers body positions.

When starting out, I think it's good to get a whole load of interviews [if you can] to places that you don't really want. Have some fun at the interview process knowing that the outcome doesn't matter. This'll give you an idea of how it goes and get you into a more relaxed state for your real interviews...

It was at an Argos store, which I think is sorta equivalent to Sears?
Argos is kinda a strange concept in stores... I'm not sure they have an Argos equivalent...?!

I have been trying for that, applications and CV's sent out left, right, center, vertically, cross-dimensionally since Wednesday, and this has been my first and only reply so far. Here's hoping on others

Find people you know in the jobs, random CV's so often get looked over. If you know someone within the company get them to refer you, generally you get at least a call, and if you get hired they might get a hiring bonus for you.

My CAD bookmark got replaced by Virtual Shackles awhile back, his stories are going no where, the one shots are hardly ever funny, and yea that thing ^. I will admit his "Sillies" were still kinda funny though.

This'll be common knowledge to a lot of folk, but thought it might help someone. These things happen more often these days with higher power consumption in gaming PCs.

Windows DLLs and critical files can get seriously effed up if you are doing something serious when the power goes (gaming will do it since it's heavily using memory and CPU is trying to juggle sound, graphic, hdd, etc all loaded into memory).

Best approach to this is a system restore, which will only revert your critical windows files, back to an earlier date; it won't touch normal files, so you shouldn't lose anything important. Of course getting it to run if your file extensions are messed up is tricky.

PE is a "lite" OS... I kinda see it as the new DOS in a way. Windows PE has been around since XP days, we are now on PE 3. Windows RE is the "recovery flavour" of PE, and should be an option if you F8 at pre-boot if I remember correctly.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744291(WS.10).aspx

Bart PE could help. Bart PE is just a hacked out version with lots of tools.
http://4sysops.com/archives/free-bartpe-a-windows-pe-based-rescue-platform/

Win PE tools can have IMAGEX utility... this can let you capture an IMAGE of your PC, and then you can restore this at any time on the same PC [or PC with same components]. Will capture EVERYTHING and is very handy IMO. I can't remember if this will be built in to PE or if it's something I received from the WAIK tools specificially [WAIK is the Automated Installation Kit for Enterprise users]. If you are interested and can't find details, I'll post up the tool - fairly light EXE if I remember, and works under PE.

PE is not difficult to get to/use, but it does require some basic command line knowledge.

Hope this helps someone.

It's like you never left.

I present to you Asylum City's Tim Drake

I'll give you a hint, I test that game daily now. Its kinda awesome, wait till the next info release.

You nearly made me change my pants. I will stay tuned and pray to the detective comic gods for a playable Nightwing (Hell, I'll settle for a cameo - there are flying Grayson posters in game, after all).

;)

Once again the lefties get left out....

Funny story about that,

We were testing all the input systems (keyboard, keyboard/mouse, controller, various keyboard layouts) for Fable 3 PC, when we got the message to start testing left handed style. Out of the 16 of us testers, 6 were left handed. None of us played left handed, nor could even come up with something that we would prefer to use left handed. WASD and right handed mouse all the way!

(Note: Fable 3 PC allows for full key <> functionality swapping so whatever you want you can get. Well minus that one bug.)
