Non-VR Games / ARK: Survival Evolved

After an ETERNITY, ARK has finally come out of early access for a proper release. I've been playing it again after two years, and it's actually pretty good. The game technically has VR support, but it's pretty wonky and supposedly they are abandoning it in favor of a separate VR experience. A shame.

Since its infant days of early access, changes have been pretty damn schizophrenic. Some areas have been massively improved and there is a ton of new content, but at the same time some of the very same issues I had in 2015 are still present, like the shitshow of a building system. Thankfully, mods have stepped in and fixed the more glaring issues.

So if anyone is interested, it would be fun to group up once again. Like Rust and all the other survival games, it really benefits from teamwork.

Non-VR Games / New Rust Updates

Hey guys, after a long time of not even paying attention to Rust's development, I checked the newest updates for the development version and it looks like it has finally surpassed legacy when they abandoned it.

Has anybody else been keeping an eye on Rust?

Do you think it would be worth it to jump back in and play the "real" version now? I stopped playing the legacy version a bit after it was abandoned in favor of starting anew, and decided to wait for the development branch to catch up to the point where it would be fun to play again.

It sure looks like a hell of a lot of fun, even though I haven't really tried it out quite yet.

Any interest in trying it out together, or are you all burned out from your long-time dominance of legacy Rust?

Off Topic / My 5 Year FA Anniversary

Today, March 15, marks the day I joined The Furious Angels five years ago.

I know I haven't been around as long as you old farts with a decade of experience, and because time is boring and won't listen to me I'll never catch up. I know I've also been somewhat of a wallflower and not the most outspoken or active member, but nevertheless, I'm quite proud of my 5 years being an Angel and I sure as hell wouldn't have spent all these past years with any other faction.

This is the best gaming group around, and you all have helped me create some of my fondest gaming memories. Hurray for FA!

So I woke up yesterday to see I had an e-mail from Gamingo saying I was accepted into closed beta for Black Prophecy. Now, I had no idea what the hell Black Prophecy was, but hey I was in a beta. So I read up on the game while downloading the client, and what do you know, it's stupidly fun!

It's a space dogfighting MMO, so like EVE but with third/first person spacefighter combat. The missions are repetitive, the UI is horribly clunky, there is absolutely no incentive to PvP yet, but the combat gets me all tingly!

Best of all, it's free. If anyone else wants to give it a go, I'd suggest signing up for beta as I believe they're just letting anyone and everyone in (closed beta what?).

Has anybody heard of this (comparatively) old gem from Sierra? It's one of those realistic simulator shooters, where one or two bullets kills you and you need to follow police protocol (or be docked points).

It's hard as balls; I, G, and a student of mine were playing it this evening for about 5 hours and only managed to barely beat the 4th mission with a 66% percent.

It's really fun and super teamwork oriented, so I think a lot of you would enjoy playing it, especially together. I torrented it and ran the game using Hamachi, so it'd be very easy to pick up and play for us.

Let me know if anyone is interested, and we'll get some awesome SWAT action going!

So after a few hours of the challenge being live, I decided to go take a look at the forums to see if anyone has taken a bit of our PM bait yet, only to be pleasantly surprised by the fairly large buzz already generated by the Faint Signal PMs.

Have you guys seen this thread? It's so cool seeing these people collaborate and attempt to solve the puzzle, and apparently at the time I'm posting this one has already made it through!

News and Announcements / Return to Darkfall 14-Day Trial

I just got an e-mail today from Aventurine offering 14 days of free play, as well as a free character transfer from EU to NA.

I'm certain the rest of you who played Darkfall received the same e-mail, so I was wondering if anyone else thought it was worth trying out again.

I know some of us are in APB's NA Beta, but supposedly this particular playtest is ending May 2nd, and there's been so news yet as to when the next one will be. So that means we'll have some gameless time for Darkfall, maybe?

I'm interested in seeing how much Darkfall has changed, and if it's now good enough to actually play. If anyone else is going to participate in the 14-day re-entry trial, let me know so we can coordinate our activation.

General / Fantasy Earth Zero

So I've been incredibly bored recently with no MMO to play and desperately searching for SOMETHING to keep me occupied until APB and SWTOR release, and I stumbled across Fantasy Earth Zero.

It's made by Square-Enix and is currently in Open Beta Phase 1 (with a wipe scheduled for March 10), though it's been available for a good while overseas.
I thought it'd just be another boring grindfest with obnoxious anime characters, but I'm actually really digging the KvK (Kingdom vs. Kingdom PvP) wars. It's got an active battle system where you actually have to aim attacks and abilities, sort of like Darkfall's.

If any of you are looking for something to play, I think this might be a fun little diversion until the real games come out. Also, it's free!

P.S. I'm currently on the Boreas server affiliated with Yelsord, but with the coming wipe I was thinking of going with Hordaine (though if we get a FA Corps going, I'll be on whichever side we choose).

So a few days ago, my brother showed me this game called League of Legends. He said it was like DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) in Warcraft 3, but that was actually sort of an understatement. It's JUST like DOTA and even made by the same people. Apparently they made it so big as designers of a Use Map Settings map for Warcraft 3, that they decided to form a game company and create a full game based on that same idea.

It's absurdly addicting and really fun. Super competitive, too. The game's a bit hard to explain properly, so I'll just say it's like a 5v5 match of Warcraft 3 where you only control a hero. Yeah, it's fantasy, but it's still wicked fun that's best of all FREE. It's a simple game that can be played while we wait for a real game to devote our time to.

Support / Access to "Angels Only" Forum Section

Whenever I try to access any of the brand new Angel Only sub-forums, it gives me a message saying I need special permission to access them.

Am I not high enough rank to view them? Do you guys not like me anymore? Or was it just an oversight?

I was so excited when I saw we finally chose two games to participate in, and now I'm bummed that I can't access those forums!
Maybe this is because I don't have TF2 and haven't been on TS in forever...

Off Topic / Random (read: lame) Computer Issue

So some time last week I tried turning my computer on and nothing happened. Of course, I was confused and went about doing the normal things to figure out what the problem was. Power was running through my computer, as the little mobo light was lit, but it was simply not powering up.

Eventually, I narrowed it down to the actual power switch. It was broken (what the hell?) and frustratingly near impossible to get to. I had to disassemble my whole tower just to get to it and find out that it was irreparable. So I said "screw it" and ordered a new tower online.

This is why I haven't been on Darkfall (if you've even noticed my absence), but I hope to be back on in less than a week! I'm already starting to go through withdrawals because I can't get my Darkfall fix. Need... to... gank!
