Home recording? Spending time in a studio has really got me into the idea of investing in a home recording studio... I can do demos at home + record other bands for some profit!

Anyone have any good contacts? I've been asking my studio techie but he's busy with us atm so it'll take time to get some kind of info out of him.

I need to soundproof and DIY a wall + Window (double glazed.) and get a door or two so it's all secure and then get all the technical stuff.

I've priced up headphones, I already have a MRS-8 recorder + PC and I've priced up speakers and mics.

It's frustrating but fun!

OK, I have time now. Like I said, I don't have experience with home studios really. My experience is with the technical side of recording. i.e. - Computer hardware, software, boards, recording equipment and sound editing techniques. I don't think I have any knowledge that would help you, but I may look into a few things or talk a few friends who have gotten into it.

Q's on sound proofing.

Will a carpet underlay around the walls work for a good cheap soundproof material? I've been looking at this foam stuff that you put on the walls and it's effing expensive.

I'm plasterboarding/making a wall where the garage door is, so I'll HAVE to atleast sound proof that. Apparently there's soundproof plaster board according to my father but he doesn't know much DIY stuff O.o

I'll need to building another wall and put a double glazed window (small one, mind you) and I'll need a door. Our house door is coming off 'cause of the flood so we're replacing it with a PVC one, I'll try and swing the parents round so i can put that door in the garage. I'm thinking of drilling holes in the plasterboard to feed the cables through and then silicone them (y'know around the edges.

Audio Editing Software

Our studio techie uses 'pro tools' apparently it's quite easy to get a hang of but although it's cheap you can only use equipment by the pro audio company to record! :/ clicky!

Do you recommend anyother programs?

I have not seen or used pro tools, but it has a pretty good reputation from what I've heard. I have a copy of Adobe Audition, which is what I use for my audio needs. I know I don't use it for quite the same thing you may, but I might be able to get you a copy - free is cheaper than cheap.

The only hardware issues I kind of question is the mixer. How many inputs will you be needing? It looks like only 4 at a time will have a 3 band EQ... I bought something similar (but it was a Behringer) but I only really needed 3 - my primary mixer, computer, and mic.

I think unless your recording live band practices, that should work just fine for you. What kind of things will you be hooking through this for recording?

Vocals, Drum kit, Guitars and Bass... I have Plug ins on my computer (hence the whole 'what is your opinion thread) so I can do synths etc.

I think 4 mics will be enough.

Oh and if you could get me a copy of Adobe Audition, that would be fab
