General / likwidtek and Jess are *NOT* dead! :)
« on: June 13, 2012, 01:04:33 pm »
Until things calm down in the real world, we're just not going to be able to play as much.

Between some personal family issues, Jess teaching summer school, training for a new job, increased work load over the next few months at likwid's job and of course us planning our wedding... we have out hands full.

Also, it's summer time which is, father's day, my daughter's birthday, my birthday, Jess's birthday, family coming into town, lots of friend get togethers and stuff too..

We're not going totally AFK but logging in will be super spotty until things calm down a bit. Summer's a beyatch!

Anywho... We're not leaving or anything but you've already noticed us logging in sparsely... I just wanted to let everyone know we're still going to play when we can but there's a butt-ton of real life goodies going on right now.

We'll try and make raid on weekends when possible but I would suggest someone else take our permanent spot on the roster until we can fully commit again.  Every other Friday night for drunk FA fun night still seems pretty doable though.  ;)

May the sporks be with you!

General / FA Friday Fun Night! 9pm FA Time (CST)
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:59:05 pm »
Tonight, we're going to be doing some fun stuff!

For tonight's little shindig (which is open to ANYONE of all levels) we'll be hitting Tython and Ord Mantel at least for some quick datacron runs.  If you're missing one or two this is a perfect time to nab them.  Depending on how quick we bang them out we can hit another planet.  Preferably, please have your speeder so we can get as many of these done as time allows.  I don't want to see anyone get left behind.  In the following weeks we can start banging out all the other planets as well.  Gotta collect 'em all!

After, we'll do some fun PvP patroling on Tatooine or any other planet that's shouting for help.  If we don't run into any trouble, we'll go to the Outlaw's Den for some fun FA on FA combat!

So be available tonight 3/23 at 9pm FA time for some fun guild bonding and fun :)  Drinking heavily is encouraged!

Off Topic / GPU monitor? - also Crossfire within SW:TOR
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:04:30 pm »
I've googled this up and down and just can't seem to find a program or gadget that will do this right.

I need a piece of software, either gadget or a regular application that will show me stats about my 2 GPUs while in crossfire  I'd like to see as much info as possible but at least load percentage (usage) of each card at the same time.  The closest WORKING thing I've foind is GPU z but you have to click a drop down to switch between GPUs.  I'd like this data side by side.

The reason for this is I'm troubleshooting crossfire issues within SWTOR and need to see the load of each card while the game is running.

So far I've discovered that crossfire with SW:TOR will not work in windowed or fullscreen windowed mode.  It must be in fullscreen mode.  But for those that like to alt tab or who have multi monitor setups, this is retarded.  If you're in windowed mode the second GPU gets powered down.

With that in mind, I need to be able to have this app up on my other screen so that I can monitor the load of each video card while in the game without clicking out of the game to switch GPUs.  From what I can tell, there's more buggyness where I'll be getting something like 40-50 frames per second but the card is only at 20% load.  Something's screwy but I need more data.

So yeah, if you guys know of a good app please let me know.

This was linked on reddit today.  I'm totally ignorant as to how Tanking works in this game however I'll pass this along:

This is the original thread:
http://sithwarrior.com/forums/Thread-Threat-conversation?pid=16361#pid16361

This is the reddit conversation about it:
http://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/qk6bb/tests_suggest_taunts_generate_30_threat_of_the/

And here are some of the comments that seem to summarize:

Quote
Tests suggest taunts generate +30% threat of the current target, making them the best aggro move

Quote
A tank should taunt every time he can for maximum threat/aggro generation.

Quote
An important implication of this is that gearing for threat is basically pointless for tanking single targets. The ability to taunt for a free 30% increase in threat means that as a fight goes on, the tank's threat increases exponentially. No amount of linear threat gain from attacks will even come close after the first few taunts of a fight.

Quote
This needs to be repeated over and over, as I still see so many other tanks complaining that they cannot keep threat over their DPS. I think too many are confusing SWTOR threat mechanics with WoW threat mechanics and haven't come to terms with the fact that this is a different game yet.

Quote
Hopefully this information gets out there. When i started in ops, I had a huge problem because I came from games where taunting meant you sucked at your job. Once I started taunting on cooldown, I rarely had problems.

General / Velox Roll call - Sound Off!
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:35:23 pm »

Master: Major Likwidtek Sunkiller
Helping newbies, Guild Relations, Being Available. Mixed, though mostly non-force classes.

Speed. The Velox Order acts as an extremely cohesive tactical unit. They are ready at a moment's notice to aid in any fight or any situation. They are the first responders of the Furious Angels - the ones the Angels look to in case of an emergency. Always on guard - always on call.

Alright troops, who's here?  Who's MIA?

I'd like to keep communication between Velox members, create a tight knit group and do some fun and social activities in-game here and there.  Our main purpose is to engage the guild internally, especially new people; make them comfortable, knowledgeable and well trained members of FA.  I want to make sure we break down as many barriers as possible, mix it up and level the playing field in terms of gear, stats and loadouts.  To do that I'd like us to help members by doing the following:

* Datacron runs
* Normal Mode Flashpoints for gear and experience
* Preformed PvP groups for gear and experience
* Being on call to help allies in need
* Helping leveling members with Heroics and flashpoints
* Welcoming new members and getting them mixed in with everyone
* Following Master Anamodiel's lead on Recruitment, Alliances and Diplomacy
* Fun social events, rp events and reaching out to other like minded guilds

Externally, I'd like to RP it up with other guilds seeking out like minded groups of Republic protectors to game with.  While we're out in the world, it's also always fun to approach and help other players especially unguilded lowbies.  Remember, whenever possible, when interacting with non-FA members we always try to keep it RP and keep up the Furious Angels mystique.  We are the shadow force of the republic.  Quite, powerful and mostly unknown.  Also, we need to keep in mind that we should be working closely with Master Anamodiel of the Veritas order.  Their purpose is mainly Alliances and Diplomacy so I'll be pinging Ana for ideas and approval for reaching out to Guilds.

It's going to be fun guys, let's make Velox the most sought-after order in FA!

Please sound off below in the following format:  (please only list your main's info)

In-game Name:
Major Likwidtek Sunkiller
Level:
50
Advanced Class/Spec:
Commando/Healer
Interests in game: (Examples: RP/PvP/Raiding/Crafting/RolePlay/Crafting/Credit Mongering/etc)
PvP, Raiding
Average Hours per week:
10-15 hours
Member of FA Since:
2004
What can you bring to the order?:
I'll be doing my best to help FA members in need and bring us closer to other guilds.

Non-VR Games / SWTOR, tips and tricks, Reddit edition!
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:28:38 pm »
http://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/ofhcc/swtor_tips_and_tricks_reddit_edition/

Quote
(Made this for GameSpot/GameFAQs, and I spend just as much time here, figured I would post this here as well. Please feel free to add more tips/tricks in the comments and I will add it in.)

General Tips

* Not sure which crew skills go together or which one you want to pick? Refer to this chart, http://i.imgur.com/aZdbv.jpg
* Press Control + U twice to reload your user interface to fix common UI issues.
* Press Control + Shift + F to view your frames per second (displays in bottom left corner). Green indicates GPU, red is CPU.
* Right clicking a mob will fire off whatever ability is in your 1 slot.
* Always log out in a Catina, your ship, or the Fleet for rested experience bonus.
* If you don't like your conversation gains (light/dark or companion affection), press escape to do the conversation over again.
* When you first walk into the Fleet to pickup your crew skills, talk to every trainer. You'll get half a level just from Codex entries alone.
* To leave a Flash Point after completing it, click "Exit Area" above the minimap.
* If you want to gain levels fast, do your daily Space Combat, Emerging Conflicts (Flash Point PvE Daily), and daily PvP missions.
* To visibly see your alignment (light/dark) gains without hovering over the choices, enable "Show Conversation Alignment Gain" in the options.
* To enable looting in an area, enable it under the controls, "Enable Area Loot".
* You have an Emergency Fleet Pass with an 18 hour cooldown you can use, press P, and find it under the general tab. In addition, downloading the free mobile authenticator gives you access to cheap Fleet Passes that have only a one hour cooldown.
* You don't have to keep crafting materials on you, you can put them in storage and still use them to craft.
* When leveling your crafting skill, dont sell your extras. Reverse engineer them to make better ones and get some of your materials back, making it easier to level your crew skills.
* When you get around level 20, start saving up for 48,000 credits for your mount/ mount training (at level 25), don't blow it all on crew skills.
* Type /stuck if you get stuck anywhere. Also works great for raiding, if you decide you want to start the encounter over again, everyone can type /stuck and it'll instantly kill you. Much faster than waiting for everyone to slowly die.
* Once you get your Advanced Class, remember to look at both skill tabs at the skill trainer. One is for your default class (Sith Inquisitor, Jedi Knight for example), the other is for your Advanced Class (Sith Assassin, Jedi Guardian for example).
* If you don't like the crafting missions that are offered to you, zone and they will change (board your ship for example). This is particularly helpful for leveling Diplomacy if you don't want to take any light/dark points.
Gaining companionship means your crew skills go faster for that said person.

PvE Tips

* If your companion is very low on life after battle, you can dismiss/resummon him with full health. You can also mount and dismount quickly and they'll return with full life. This is much faster than resting if your life is still full after battle and your companion's is not.
* Similar to the previous one, if your companion dies. Dismiss/resummon him, or mount/dismount and he'll return with full life (as opposed to partial life when manually rezzing him)
* If you're having trouble with a class boss, take advantage of your 20 minute companion cooldown (Channel the Force for example). Use the ability listed on your 20 minute cooldown, then once it fades, use your 20 minute companion cooldown ability and pop the same ability again. Inquisitor example: electrocute (four second stun), once electrocute fades, use Channel the Force and place Electrocute on the target again. That's 8 seconds the mob is stunned and you take no damage.
* Using a Companion Health Pack will rez him during combat.
Press the space bar in Space Combat to do a barrel roll, helps avoid taking unnecessary damage.

PvP Tips

* The PvP vendor offers amazing gear at level 20 and level 40 for very low cost that is better than anything else available at your level (typically).
* In the Huttball warzone, knocking people into the poison pit or fire grates and then stunning them is a very efficient way to kill someone and/or reset the ball. Also knocking huttball carriers off the bridges and onto the bottom level of the Warzone is a tremendous way to help your team.
* In Huttball, Inquisitors/Consulars can sprint across the pit at the beginning of the match to grab the ball faster than any other class. Be careful using this tactic though, you'll get pounced on hard.
* In the Civil War warzone, make sure you always cap the node to your left first (great for Inquisitors/Consulars with the force speed buff). It is near impossible for the opposing faction to get there before you can cap it. Easy way to give your team a node right off the bat.
* In the Void Star warzone, after the first set of doors has been blown down and the attackers must cross the bridge to advance to the second set of doors, it is very easy to throw players off the bridge using abilities that knockback (Overload for example).

Non-VR Games / Companion Gifts
« on: January 08, 2012, 02:10:12 pm »
This is very useful:

Copy and pasted from another site.

Quote
The basics of it is that you can give your companions gifts in order to raise their affection towards you by buying gifts from vendors, getting them from certain crafting missions, or buying them off the galactic market. With higher affection you can unlock more conversations with your companion, companion specific quests, and they will preform crew missions quicker.

When you look at companion gifts you will see that they have a rank between 1 and 5 and this determines how many affection points you will get for giving it. Each rank of gifts equals the companions affection rank which is in increments of 2000. So the get the most out of a gift you want to give them one that is the same rank as their affection to you so it works like this.

Rank 1 Gifts for Affection Rank 1 = 0-2000
Rank 2 Gifts for Affection Rank 2 = 2001-4000
Rank 3 Gifts for Affection Rank 3 = 4001-6000
Rank 4 Gifts for Affection Rank 4 = 6001-8000
Rank 5 Gifts for Affection Rank 5 = 8001-9999

You can still give rank 1 gifts to a companion that is over rank 1 affection but they suffer heavily from diminishing returns. If you give a rank 1 gift to a companion that's affection rank 2 they will only gain 50% of they points you would've gotten if they were rank 1. At affection rank 3 they only receive around 25% of the affection points and it continues to drop in this way.

But you can still get a decent amount of affection points from a gift that's ranked lower than a companions affection rank if it is a blue or purple quality. This also applies if the gift is the same rank as the companions affection. A blue gift will grant give around 50% extra affection than a green and purple quality gifts are said to be around 75%.

Another key to maximizing your affection gains is to know your companions likes and dislikes. Your companion will gain more affection points from a gift they love than one they simply like. The order of how your companions feel towards certain gifts is like this: Favorite,Love, Like, and Indifferent.
So if you can try to give companions gift that they Favorite or Love for maximum gain.

To see what gifts your companions like you can just follow this link: http://www.swtorface.com/p/swtor-companion-list.html

Also understand that if a companion is romanceable they will have "Courting" type gifts listed as a Favorite but they won't respond to gifts as if they are a Favorite type until you are already romancing them in you dialogues.

It's not perfect.  But mostly it's accurate.  For example I've found some Loves and Favorites that should be switched, but it's still great.

Here's another good one:
