Oculus Updates from CES 2014
« on: January 05, 2014, 02:11:46 pm »
This week is CES, and with it we should be getting a bunch of updates on Oculus' latest Rift prototype. Check back here for articles and news Coming out of CES!

-Oculus has confirmed it will bring its latest Rift prototype to CES!
-Wired: First Look at New Oculus Rift Prototype
-Polygon: Oculus Unveils Rift Prototype With Positional Tracking and Mysterious OLED Display
-Engadget Hands On
-iBuyPower's Steam Machine Meant to be Paired with Oculus Rift
-IGN Hands On
-Gizmodo: I Wore the New Oculus Rift and Never Want to Look at Real Life Again (video included)
-Engadget: Internal Game Development at OculusVR
-Joystiq: Testing the Huge Breakthrough in New Oculus Rift Prototype
-Polygon's Hands On

Highlights:

-The new prototype is called "Crystal Cove" and has positional tracking and an OLED screen.
-Positional tracking is accomplished with an external camera and multiple LED dots on the Rift. This is all to be included with the Rift (not a separate purchase).
-Simulator sickness has been solved using low persistence, a method that eliminates motion blur by only flashing the image for a millisecond when it is correct. It is similar technology to LightBoost, etc.
-Oculus won't release the details of the OLED screen as it is subject to change, but they say this particular screen gets down the latency, motion blur, judder, etc.
-Still no release date or DK2 info.
-iBuyPower mentioned they have a Steam Machine that is meant to be paired to the Oculus Rift, but they weren't able to get the demo up in time for their reveal at Steam's event.
-EVE:Valkyrie confirmed as a launch title.
