DCUO VS SWTOR

I'm getting back into MMO's and I'm wondering if DCUO's worth it. Both games seem interesting, but since I haven't played either but if anyone's been in both games please leave your two cents. =)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

...

Oh, you're being serious?

I was in Beta for DCUO. It was extremely unpolished, even for a Beta. The best way I could describe the game is "watered down". I guess since it is releasing on console as well, everything has been dumbed down to your basic console action game. After your initial choice of combat method, there's no variation in what you do - it's simply a button mashing game.

The graphics weren't very impressive. The dialog was very cheesy, and only a few of the voice actors (the big names) were any good. The story was kinda divided up into baddies (I was playing a good guy). You'd go to x location and kill y number of baddies, then go to x location and kill another y number of baddies, then go to another x location and kill another y number of baddies, until finally you go into an instanced area where you make your way through a dungeon until you team up with x goodie to kill y baddie. Rinse and repeat.

I'm not a huge DC fanatic, but I've heard several hardcore fans say that the game is not worth a subscription cost, and I would agree. I would put it on par with a low-quality Spider-man game where you can kinda swing around the city, but that's the best part of the game. In DCUO you can fly, bounce, or speed around, and that's really the only interesting thing I did. I played until about lvl 15-20, and never really felt like I was having much fun.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to play SWTOR yet, so I can't compare the two side-by-side. All of the most recent media impressions have been extremely positive (just look for Jedi impressions that were released in December). I know some friends in Beta currently who said it is extremely well polished and plays as solid as WoW does (I've never played WoW, but based on the numbers, that must be a good thing). With Bioware leading the charge, there's no way the game is going to be BAD.

Damn, DCUO sounds much worse than MxO, (not that MxO was horrible, it was far from it.) I had a notion SWTOR was going to be awesome, especially since reading somewhere that it was rumored 300m has gone into it's production thus far. I'm hoping the battles in TOR feel somehwat cinematic, if not the same, as MxO was.  Perhaps I'll get my kick off of fighting alongside Batman for a month and give it up. Nah forget it, I'll just wait for Arkham City.

BTW, it's been a while! good seein you and this place again!

My copy should be coming for the 14th (release for the UK) and I'm giving it a test run for 30 days. I got to Beta test and I only found it good because:

A) HUGE Superman and Batman fan. Period.
B) You are super-powerful from the get go and at the latter stages of the Beta the dev team revamped most abilities for the upper levels to even more uber.
C) The game is good for the LATER levels than the early ones. Even I wanted to quit around levels 5-15.

I nearly bought the game on a whim this morning.
Thankfully I checked here for some opinions first.

My wallet is grateful.

beta'd dcuo was very disappointed got to lvl 25 but frankly I played this game at fan faire 2 years ago and there were big negatives then and 2 years later none of these have been fixed.  From what I understood the beta was pretty much the finished article with only tweaks going into the initial launch as every bug that was reported seem to get a rebuttle of this will be sorted after going live.  To be honest the next SOE game im looking at is the agency as the lvl I got to play at fan fair 2 years ago was well constructed and the controls worked and the game felt smooth.  if they deliver half of what walrus was saying they wanted to do with it it could be a nice game.

Wow. Whoever said that Beta was 'the final product' was wrong:

There are some minor graphical tweeks for the better, new VO for Heroes (not checked Villains yet); the Flash has a new voice (God his VO was shit in Beta) for starters.

New animations and abilities (for brawling and fire; the ones I've used so far). Combat seems a bit more fluid, but I've had one or two bugs.

I've experienced NO lag at all despite there being only two EU serves with high populations.

The apparel system (in game, not character creation) has been changed so you can have vanity slots etc. and change your apparel/skin colour in game via the menus.

So far, I'm impressed with the end product.

Well the good news is that if we decide to play The Agency I already have a Recruitment Challenge ready to go for it.

I enjoyed the end of beta too, I stopped playing just so I wouldn't see all of the content by release, just waiting for Best Buy to ship it to me to start playing.

The story seems a bit weak and appears to be driven by methods like utilizing lesig in mxo. am I wrong? What put me off was that I was unable to participate in a majority of them.

I had to wait over 20 minutes to login. I have never had to do that before, not even with MxO...
