Post by: Tbone on November 17, 2009, 11:01:33 am: The badge idea was about 2 months ago. I tried a couple of times, but I can't wait two months for people to finally respond to my requests. I hardly even get feedback on the stuff I do make anymore, so I'm just sort of doing everything myself in hopes that when people do finally come back, they won't complain because they weren't here to help in the first place.

All that being said, I'm always up for being impressed. But don't expect me to completely redo everything I've been doing for the past couple of weeks because of it.

I can move this question to it's own topic if necessary.

EDIT: Mine's not working out so well, anyone mind making one for me using Tbone's template?

EDIT: Well now that I'm in a squad, I finished my sig that I was working on. I can re-format it to give the apb site, but this will work for now. My photo editing skills are sub-par, but I think it turned out at least half-decent. Opinions please?

Anyone else had better luck?

Well, i just looked up some dogtags and tried my best to make the ones in my sig look as accurate as possible. Thoughts?

Post by: Tbone on November 19, 2009, 03:31:57 pm: Pretty close Arch. "Reprise Title" was part of my standard fonts. I don't know which program installed it. I'm on Vista 64 with Photoshop, ImageReady, and Elements. It could have come packaged with any of that. I could throw up the font file with the template files I suppose.

The more i look at it, the more it feels authentic. Am i alone? Be rough with critique despite the sig being simple. I wanna get it looking right and such before i go on to the APB forums with it :P

Besides that, the sig still has its uniformity without making it look like a total clone. That's what i was trying to go for.

I don't remember doing anything to the angel asside from adding that gradient black to white behind it to make it stand out more.

i'll upload a template for the font when i get outta work if you really want.

Is there a reason our sig is so skinny? I know some forums actually put dimension restrictions on the size of sigs, and I think the Beta MxO boards had this. But is it really necessary anymore?

I only ask because I'm finding it difficult to squeeze so many elements into something only 75 pixels tall. Faction Name/Alias/Squad Name/Squad Rank/URL/Contextual Images.

Big signatures come off as obnoxious in my opinion, although i can understand the space restraints when trying to add something to a smaller sig.

I'm always gonna be biased towards a smaller, stream lined sig than a big one.

I still can't quite get the right effect of the Angel on the Dogtag. Maybe I need to make it more gray and less black. I'll play with it some more tomorrow.

I do like Arch's font much more than Tbone's. It looks more like a real dogtag this way. I might also ditch the VERITAS SQUAD part because it's on my dogtag. I don't know.

I also like the smaller signatures. Less is more.

I only have a baseplate for mine with a few good shades, but no idea what to do with it. Any ideas? I'm thinking or getting rid of the circle. I like the black background, but think it'll need to be textured to look not so bland.

Asside from that, maybe try a blend of a backround render with the black. As you mentioned, the black alone is pretty bland.

I'm typically not active on official game forums, and I don't plan to be in regards to APB, but just in case can I get someone to make an APB signature for me using the template everyone else has? If we're going to pull off this uniform signature thing, and if I ever need one, it will come in handy.

That's actually supposed to be silver lettering, but I have to say I like the white also.

Note to self: work on silver/chrome lettering.

In my humble opinion, i think it's fine the way it is. Don't focus on accenting too much when it looks great as is.

Now that doesn't mean that you can find ways that you feel can better it... I suppose what i'm trying to say is just don't over do it cause that's when a sig looks like it screaming at you (Figuratively speaking of course.) instead of just looking like what it should be, a nice signature.

Hey sorry it took me a while to get back to you. If you're asking which one I'd prefer for my sig, I gotta say the white one. It's sleeker in my opinion, and white will look better on most boards IMO.

I tried attacking the original FA wings to it... but I'm Photoshop incompetent, and it ended up looking way more cartoon-y than I wanted, so I just ended up really zooming in on the hilt of the lightsaber.

"Jedi Knight Phienyx", "Phienyx the Smuggler",...I don't know. I would recommend just saying Phienyx and then have "Angel of the Libertas Squad" or "Member of the Libertas Squad".

Just finished my sig up using Tbone's templates. Very happy with it.
If anyone would like to help me with some animation, I love the way Adad's sig (the one he posted a page or two ago) looks. Though I don't need mine that complicated, I'd just like to have the handle sit dormant for a moment, and then the blade come out and gently flicker.

Even if someone could give me a quick crash course in what program and tools within to use I'd be very appreciative. The extent of my PS knowledge is editing Tbone's templates :P

I didn't think anyone would notice. Harshing my mellow man. I did that real quick in class with the brightness turned down, so I guess it didn't seem as noticeable until I turned up my screen. I'll try to even it out when I have more time to play with PS. Like I said, I don't really know what I'm doing.

Edit: Tried to fix it. Just edged out the glow in the top right corner and tried to use the angel insignia on the left as a natural barrier to cut it off with. Compare whats quoted above to my current sig. Better? Ideas?

When I get back into the States I can make you a sig from the template of the other Veritas sigs. I've been meaning to clean it up anyway, so I might just create an entirely new one. Yours looks nice, though!

I Had some ideas after going through the entirety of this thread. I was wondering if its possible to make a spinning (like a coin rotating on its side when you flick it only slowly) FA emblem, For me it would be like a glowing teal (isnt AD this way anyway in the ascension program?) So that would be where Tbone has his FA symbol in his templates.

As far as the falling windows, I thought it would be cool if somehow we could have aurebesh being written across, saying various things such as our orders or maybe people that could possibly have been FA as was stated in the informational videos...

Edit: Also if anyone has the capability to make me either sig or avatar, I would much appreciate anything. Favorite Colors are white, silver, and teal/blue (the really cool non green fancy blue color from kotor 2).

I think a spinning AP (or is it AD) would make a rockin avatar...

Haha, no. It's the bottom part of the cape of the Jedi and you should be able to see the lightsabers. I guess it's missing feet...lol.

really i haven't had much time to do anything other than work and school this week so i'm sorry for bad feedback.

my only issue with the current creations is that they are both tall; too tall i think for the forums. i'd like to stick to the same size as yours. i do like both angel pics, however i do prefer the traditional FA font.

thank you for working on this for me :D and i hope my feedback is useful! off to do homework :(

There's the first one with standard size/text/format. Any other format looks funky when I use the standard SW font.

I'm gonna try working on the other one with standard text, but apparently I didn't save a PSD of the second one so that will take more time. I like it more so I would like to see what it would look like with standard SW fonts.

Are there any links for the templates for:
- Different swords/sabers (I think I count 4 so far, including the base one in my sig)
- The text animation (where it fades out, gleans etc).

Not sure if I just missed them, but it might be handy to have a repository where all variations can be grabbed, and for people to upload if they make new variations...

BTW, for any of you, if you want colour changed or the text changed under your name (currently it translates just as your name), let me know - no problems to do so, very easy. I appreciate my colour choices might not be suitable for some. Just don't make a habit of it :D

At the moment I only have the base template, but I would like to get some other sabers to replace with so there can be a bit of difference as with other peoples sigs.

Here's a quick shot at your colors, likwid. Just so ya know, that pic has the WORST color blends to work with. IMO, find a better starting point.

I'm thinking something along the lines of the old school FA sigs with the rotational graphic on one side and then it locking in place, a bright purple lightsaber blade extending left to right that fades to a duller purple with Mharz fading into the purple blade. The standard FA along the top or bottom.

Sorta complex right? Is that even possible? Heck who am I kidding I'll take anything.. =D

Yes, it is possible and quite easy. You would just replace the lightsaber with a blaster.
