Destyn Gone
« on: February 21, 2008, 10:39:46 pm »
Destyn has left the faction.  There were several things happening surrounding why he left.  I'm not gonna get into any of that right now but will leave it for Tbone to address when he has the time.

Suffice it to say that in my estimation he was not treating members of the faction the way another faction member should, let alone the way a staff members should.

Go ahead, make my day.

This has been a touchy subject for a while now, and while we tried to address it the best we could, it seems this end was inevitable.

While Destyn did a lot, especially with the bluepill/recruitment side of our faction, recently he had become very unapproachable to several of our members. I like to think of this faction as a group of friends, not just a support system, so I was hoping we'd be able to rectify whatever problems Destyn was having.

Because Destyn was a member of the staff, we felt it was important that he make himself available to all members of the faction. When we tried to talk to him about this, he wouldn't budge on trying to talk it out or compromise. It seemed he didn't care enough about the faction or his friends to at least hear the other side out.

I felt the best course of action was to demote Destyn, telling him that being in a leadership position requires him to work with us, not against us. He didn't take the demotion well, and as a result, left the faction unannounced.

I'm not sure why Destyn had a sudden mood change, or how much of his grievances were legit. I'm disappointed he didn't have any parting words of his own, so I'm going to give you the last part of an email he sent me before leaving:

Quote
I'm going to take a few weeks out of the drama, talk to people who are important to me and make sure my side of this finally is handed out.  I've kept quiet until now, but I don't see any point in continuing that policy given the outcome.  As for being staff, a leader... I was never either, and you know that as well as I do.  The players saw me as one of their own at most, something to be derided at worst.  I was never respected as a mod, I certainly didn't hold any ship positions so it's not as if the position gave me anything more than an opportunity to report back my intel: of course, that's intel you won't be receiving now.

Perhaps this time will give us all time to reflect on what the mature course of actions could have been.
