Battlefield: Heroes
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:34:20 pm »
This game is supposed to release towards the end of this summer. It will be a FREE shooter game created by EA Games and DICE Studios, and they'll make their money through advertising and micropayments for clothing and appearance-only modifications, meaning that everyone in the faction should be able to download this, much like America's Army, and jump into it without having to worry about spending hours at a time. And, because it's free, everyone will be able to get it.

This game will have an experience bar and allow you to level-up your character as you play. There are three main character classes; the soldier (your standard infantry unit), the gunner (a heavy) and the commando (sort of a sniper/spy unit); as you level up, you'll gain access to all sorts of goodies from shirts and hats to new items and abilities. (Credit: Gamespy)

This could be a big team bonding game that should be a lot of fun and should kill some time on TS (and maybe even bring some people back into TS). Hopefully this will be fun enough to check out.

...And we will strike down upon those of Darkness, with great vengeance and Furious Anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

Speaking of Battlefield - just picked up BF: Bad Company today, pretty good.

Sign me up - I haven't played a Battlefield game I haven't liked (including the console variations), and you damn sure can't beat free, especially from these guys.

This sounds VERY interesting. I was planning on getting Battlefield 2142 when i got my laptop but this sounds like a nice free alternative.

I played some 2142 and it was alright. I'm assuming it will be classic teamVteam Battlefield gameplay? Modern setting? 1942 originally drove me away from the series because of the lack of variety in the maps and the fact that the vehicles handled so poorly. Honestly, I had more fun driving an aircraft carrier or manning a fixed gun position than trying to fly one of the planes or (UGH) one of the helicopters. Realism? Sure. But not at the cost of playability/fun.

In otherwords, I'm game. :)

You should know already that I am all for First-Person Shooters.

Haven't played Battlefield 2 or 2142 in a while, but it's not something you forget. :)

I was just looking at this today.

I'm still very disappointed that BF: BC is not coming for PC.

it only had 20 rounds... of pure destructive power! muahahahahahahahha ahahahah! and it takes real skill to handle this gun. because of the ammo and recoil... i did pretty good in using it.. so anyways... just get the game... last time i checked.. it was $20 i think

I played the demo, for a bit, but found it a bit lacking especially inthe player movement department.  I may look into this in the near future.

I was an avid 2142 player, but I stopped just before '08 rolled around. Shortly afterwards I got my new laptop, and I didn't install the game onto the new one because I was under the impression that the online community for it had died. If anyone is still playing, would like to start playing again, or is planning on getting back into it, holla at me, I would love an excuse to play it again.

I was really kinda laggy inside, but the last time i played it was on my old computer that is less than half the computer of my current system, so I imagine I'll be able to play ok now.
