Yes, you fucking read that right.
I'm not amused. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20146942)
And it's not even Lucas' direct fault. Okay, well, I still blame him for selling up to Disney.
Wanker.

Disney owns Marvel, and we've had some stellar Marvel superhero movies recently.
It MIGHT not be that bad. It probably is, but I choose to remain unreasonably optimistic!
-
Am I the only one who thinks this could actually improve the franchise? Not that I actually give a shit, but ever since the release of the special editions of the original trilogy back in '97, Star Wars has slowly and painfully been crawling up its own ass.
The further away Lucas is from Star Wars in any production, the better.
And let's face it, Lucas has made it clear that he favors the business side of filmmaking more than the storytelling. The merchandising surrounding SW is gigantic to the point of absurdity. This scene from Spaceballs was hauntingly prophetic. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjEdWTk1l9o) It has reached a point where you can slap a lightsaber on anything and call it "Star Wars". All context has been completely abandoned. There is no way in hell the guy was going to turn down $4.1 billion.
-
I'm looking forward to it!
-
Maybe they'll film in DC... MAYBE...
P.S Why hasn't this been done with the Matrix??

Not Lucas' direct fault?
It's completely Lucas' fault. He was 100% owner of LucasFilm.

I'm not sure how you can fault the guy when you consider the 4 billion reasons he had to sell. Plus by doing this he has basically made Star Wars eternal. It will live beyond his lifetime. His legacy. That's something he always dreamed about.
Personal goal + a large portion of 4 billion dollars = Win.
Just consider what Disney and Marvel did. How can you say that's been a bad thing for anyone?

In light of this news, I encourage everyone who hasn't seen these, to take some time over a weekend and watch them:

Each review nearly spans the length of each movie, so get comfy. But they are hilarious and insightful.

At the end of the day (regarding the Disney thing), I'm comfortable. Ask me again in two or three years.

There is absolutely NO way that disney can do worse than Episode 1.. not possible..
also.. does this mean disney now owns the right to SWTOR?
-
Disney now owns the IP, which means they will receive whatever licensing revenue Lucas Arts was getting. But EA/Bioware owns the game itself.
Similar to what happened with MxO. WB retained ownership of the Matrix IP, and only sold the game code to Sony.

So, this is happening.

It would be cool, but Abrams has said in the past that he wasn't going to direct it. Also, a lot of articles have changed their titles to 'reportedly' directing, as there's no viable source.

Jesus dude, the whole time I'm listening to that I'm thinking to myself; "Looking for nerdy rumor-mill radio voice? Why not Zoidberg?"

Thank God. He's fucked everything after Episode 6 including the video games and the expanded universe.
