Title: Upgrade Master
Post by: Da6onet on April 08, 2011, 11:23:22 am
So while everyone is getting into their l33t lore about how great their imaginary jedi or smuggler are going to be, I am still at a loss trying to figure out where, if at all, there is room in SWTOR for a true dedicated buffing specialist.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Upgrade Master in MxO was a utility type class that was branched off the hacker/patcher see link here -> http://www.thematrix.rumbaar.net/index.php?action=MxO_Abilities

Upgrade Masters were not healers.
They did things for your team like
-Increase movement speed
-Increase hp regen
-Increase dodge
-Increase accuracy
-Increase resistances
-Increase max health
-Sweep debuffs off you
-Remove buffs from enemies
-Increase efficiency
-Increase damage

Basically allowed you to hit harder, faster, live longer, and counter other team buffs.

Where is this class in SWTOR? Based on what I've found, or lack thereof, I am guessing that this will not exist in SWTOR as a dedicated class, but rather watered down version of it will be available in all classes with some extra tools for the dedicated healer.

Let me state now, I do not want to be a healer.

If this is not in the game, I will go whatever is closest to what the sniper class was in MxO, so probably trooper, though I doubt they have a concealed shooter in SWTOR, they'll save sneakiness for the smuggler.

If I sound like I'm longing for the days of MxO, I am, but I also thought some of these were universal MMO classes.

You might be surprised, but this is one of the Jedi Guardian trees.

The Jedi Guardian works as a team leader, enabling his allies to great feats. Basically as a Jedi Guardian, you can go down the tank/dps tree or spec to do tank/buff. I believe a Jedi Guardian will be able to do many of the buffs you'd like to do, though I do believe some are spread out through multiple classes in order to encourage diversity in your teamwork.

Calling Dag a Healer is almost as bad as calling him French.

Yeah, I figured Bioware would pull some shit like that, so I had Manic whip me up an alternate sig if that is the case.

It looks like they want each class to be able to do a little of everything.  I like the concept, but I very much prefer MxO's execution.

More and more MMOs are ditching the dedicated buffer class anymore these days. I think it has a lot to do with a lack of mass appeal. for many, the idea of a pure support class/spec isn't very sexy, which is why tanks and healers are a rare breed.

when done correctly these support/utility classes do become well sought after, which in WoWs case became a big grief about raid groups bringing specific classes because of their buffs/abilities. This resulted in the Wrath expansion spreading a lot of those buffs across the classes to even things out.

personally I always liked utility and support style classes. they allow you to experiment with different tactics/styles instead of the straitforward tank and kill raiding.
