WTF do you want from me, Windows Vista?
« on: February 08, 2007, 10:58:59 pm »
OK.  I've done two clean installs, formats included.  I've got Ultimate.  Build 6000 or whatever.

I've googled and googled, but everything I try hasn't worked thus far.

Here's a brief rundown:

I get runll32 errors all the time; whenever I try to install any new drivers, it says that the Driver Install Module has closed down; whenever I try to open Control Panel, it says Windows Explorer has shut down; whenever I try to run IE, it shuts down.  I can't uninstall or install some programs, I can't access anything in the control panel, and I can't roll back drivers (I tried to on the GFX card and 6 rundll errors popped up).

I used the Upgrade Advisor, and it said everything was fine.  My memory and videocard are ran.

Here's what I install before this happens:

I install drivers for my Linksys Wireless G Adapter.  Everything is fine.

I install Forceware 97.46 for Vista x86, and the DLL errors start.  I shut down all the Nvidia stuff that's on "Startup" under System Configuration Manager.

The same thing happens when I install the 100.59 Vista Beta Drivers.

Someone pull me out of this hole.  I'll try Customer Support or something after I find out if anyone here had similar problems.  WTF?

Oh, this is on a Sony Vaio RB40.
Intel P4 530J 3.0gHz
DDR 333 1.5 gig.
Nvidia 6800

Wait two years for programs to actually be compatible with Windows Vista. That's my plan. Good luck.

Whew...so far on my main PC (custom built), I am fine.  My poor Sony Vaio. :(

EDIT:  Now the processor is constantly running at 100% during certain programs, especially TS.  I think I'm going to go back to XP until I upgrade hardware in a year or two.

I had some issues, not what you had though.  A new user profile fixed most of them, but now I can't rename it properly.

And then I deleted my bank account info... e-mails... music... documents... by accident.  I'm trying to recover them now.

ok I had no issues other than a few problems with the video driver in games ... just some minor texture issues other than that it was a clean install and im using the 100 beta driver as well but a 8800 gtx. Nocry1 the answer to that is no if you want it on 2 computers you have to either buy licenses or buy 2 copies of Vista.

I remember when I used Windows 2000 for about 2 years after XP came out. It was the best 2 years of my life.

Don't believe everything you think.

try changing your virtual memory to double your actual memory. you may also want to load it in safe mode, and load everything manually to see if what causes your CPU useage to spike. These are what I had to do at work to find the problems with the dell laptops we upgraded to vista...Sorry Jeyk hope you get it working..

if you right click on "My Computer" goto advanced, and under performance, click on settings.

when the performance options window opens, click on the advanced tab. You should see Virtual Memory in one of those blocks (usually the bottom one).

Next click on change, it will open the window for virtual memory. You want to set it to double your physical memory in both boxes ("Initial size(MB), and Maximum Size(MB):), and click on set(you must click the set button), and then click on ok, apply until all windows are closed. You should reboot afterwards.

Hope this helps..if not let me know I'll see what else I can find out...
