Please Help Kaileb Mason Reed

Hey all!

My very close friends' 7 month old has a traumatic brain injury from an incident at the sitter's house. They had to spend Christmas and New Years in the hospital and the costs are out of control. They are still in the hospital. Please take a look at their story and if you can donate a couple bucks it will help beyond words. Not only will their family never be the same but Renee and Greg are missing work and are flooded with out of control medical costs. They need all of our help. They are very dear friends to me so whatever you can do would be amazing. I personally vouch for this, it's not a scam, these are my close personal family / friends. You may have already heard me talk about this on facebook. Please whatever you can do to help, even if it's only 5 bucks, I know it will help. The blog has some good news about Kaileb!  There seems to be a glimmer of hope but they're still drowning in medical bills.  Give the site a read and if you can pass the site on and donate a few bucks.

Good to see him moving and that he could be going home soon...I  can't even imagine going through that.

Looks like they are taking him home today. They say he looks better than he did but it seems like the doctors have done all they can for him. The rest is just a long hard road of recovery and therapy. The doctors are full of "wait and see"s and "We just don't know"s.

In any case... They get to go home after a month of this hospital nightmare. I'm still really trying to push the website to get them some donations though. They really need it for sure. There is still so much rehab and therapy to pay for along with all of the other future needed items that they will have to pay for depending on his disabilities if any. We still just don't know.

I'm talking with them to see what we can do to get some press attention but there are lawyers and all kinds of weird things at play there (ugh). So for now... word of mouth! With that said, thank you all so so so so very much on behalf of them for those of you who have donated. For those of you who can't, thoughts and prayers are amazing too. And of course if you guys can pass the site to friends and coworkers, I know the Reeds would appreciate it.

Keep checking their blog... hopefully there will be a bright future of many positive blog entries full of amazing milestones.

Likwidtek,  I'm curious to know how the boy received his brain injury.  I don't see them mention specifically what happened anywhere on the blog or the main site.  I'd like to know not only as a father but as an emergency services provider.

I have to word things carefully but here's the best I can do:

There aren't any exact details because it's still an open investigation I think. Basically there was an incident where the baby could have been dropped head first or the sitter tripped while holding the baby. Or it could have been non accidental... only take these examples as my personal theories... who knows.

Either way without going into exact details there is significant brain damage. A lot of the brain damage is done to the part of the brain that controls motor skills and vision. When it first happened the baby was taken by helicopter straight from the baby sitter's house (in home day care) to the hospital. Kaileb was on a breathing machine for I think two weeks and is still on a feeding tube. They aren't sure if he's going to be able to see or walk... there's just so much that they don't know. There's also retinal tearing.

It's just all so horrible man. Nothing like this should ever happen to good people and these guys are amazing people. What a nightmare. I don't know how they're doing it.

There is so much legal crap now because both the sitter and the faily have lawyers.  I think they are still investigating if it were non accidental or not.
