Title: Coordinate Location System
Post by: Tbone on October 25, 2004, 02:23:28 am
As a member of the Furious Angels, you are equipped with Zion's finest equipment. Zion most recently sent me their newest piece of equipment, the Coordinate Location System (CLS). CLS allows FAers to quickly determine the location of key areas of the Matrix. You are able to search Zion's exclusive database of Hardlines, Access Nodes, and Vendors. As with every piece of equipment, there could be flaws. If you see a coordinate that is incorrect, please post the correction here. You can access the CLS here:

OOC: Ketamininja made this awesome module for us! Thanks Keta!!

Maybe we could add a "tools" link in the left nav bar or something like that ?

Did we make that or was it given to us?

As Tbone said, Ketamininja made it.

Nice little app.

unfortunately it can't go in the menu on the left as it would violate the beta NDA.
It HAS to stay in the beta forums - until I figure out how to show a menu that only those in beta can see, and if T-bone wants that too.

I was thinking just having a quick block (like FAT) that is only seen to beta users.
I will be updating the program this week (Admins will be able to edit existing records for correction).

POIs (Points of Interest) like the Metacortex building might be a nice addition.

A nearest (whatever) feature would be nice. Input your coords, grab the closest location. Or maybe a dynamic map that would show your location and the things closest to you. Hmm. I might do that anyway.

For editing, I like the idea of anyone being able to enter a new piece of data, but having it not go 'live' until that data is verified by an admin - that gives admins oversight and the ability to delete or approve entries to keep the list complete and accurate while allowing anyone to go out and find new things. Makes it easier for everyone. (Well. Easier for everyone except the person writing it. :P)

Anyway. Yeah. Other than that, you pwn all. Let me know if you want any help... :D

Very nice Ket.... You know this is the kind of thing why the FA rocks and will be a dominate force inside MXO.   Onward and upward folks

I like Gillette's idea about being able to input your coordinates and look for something close.  Sometimes you just need any close hardline :-)  A dynamic map would be great too.

We might want to add extra info to vendors to specify what kind of stuff they sell.  Many people keep asking where they can find high level soldier abilities, etc.

Nice ideas all, thanks for the kind words :D
Ok, the next version is already in production - this was the first release (v0.9!).
I expect a working version of these functions within a couple of days, I am adding:

- Search for closest item (by coordinates - input your location).
- Add coords by any user (must be verified by admin before input).
- Admin can edit existing records and view records ready for verification.
- Table information extended to include items types (vendors).

Anything else CAN be put in (ie POI), but currently must be hardcoded into the PHP file.
I am looking at storing the values in another table, and calling that to populate the drop down box. This means that Admins will be able to add new values to the drop down boxes.

The map would be nice, but this is something I'll add later perhaps, currently I want the DB working for everything else. Gillette, if you want to start making a dynamic map that takes variables from the database, please feel free! PM T-bone or myself if you need to get hold of the php/db information.

You might make it the closest three items, and make which type of item selectable. ;)

Does it do tricks? Would it be possible to have it make my morning coffee? ;)

But seriously, way to go Ket!

Has anyone else had a problem looking for vendors? I can't seem to locate any with this otherwise snazzy little protocal.

none have been added yet.
The system is only as good as the information stored.
Currently it works perfectly, the "records found" should match the records shown.

You will be able to add things soon.

That looks like a lot of work or a lot of skill or both.  Sweetness for the help =)

Hmm.

New data doesn't show up. Seems wrong.

People might make multiple entries?

Even non-verified data should be displayed, it should just be tagged as non verified... I thought that's what the 'S' was for with the red/cyan box... but new data is not being displayed... At least when I add it?

Need duplication detection on names and a proximity check for coords that are very close together.

I'd also like to see who added and who verified data so that I don't go around verifying a hardline I added since that would sort of mess up the whole point of verification. Some people might also want credit for finding things... especially if a POI thingie is added.

We might also want to include a date added/verified string somewhere (not neccesarily displayed) just in case they decide to make nodes or whatever shift locations.

Ok, good feedback thankyou.
The system has been developed some more, and update is required, but a few tweaks first - I will announce when this happens.

Just to verify Gillette, and hopefully get to the root of the problem:

Everyone can now add coords. When admins add, it should go in as VERIFIED.
(S = Status, blue is good, red is unverified).
Are you an admin (as staff)? It would be blue.
What did you add? I will need to cross-check to see if its working ok.

I added a hardline location that was missing, and it comes up red for now, but it is displayed (Mannsen Park NW, Slums).

The new system has an EDIT, DELETE, and VERIFY function for admins.
I have still to sort out the "check for multiple", I need to make sure the code is correct (after all someone could add a coord that is 1 coord off the entry that is already entered, depending on where they are standing, and they can call it something different).

Don't worry, Im on top of it! Just been a bit busy, plus wanted to know if people were using it. I know I have been alt-tabbing, its been very handy for me. I would suggest that the callers should be the operators, and if someone asks for coord info, he should ALT-TAB to this system ;)

Also looking at another few features. Dynamic map is on my list. Are you familiar with flash? I need some object instances called and placed depending on the php called of course (on the VICINITY table). Should be easy, but my flash actionscripting aint up to much.

holla!

I added about ten hardlines just for giggles.

Try Rogers Way C (-644 -10 -579) in the barrens for one of the added ones.

I also overwrote Achan C to see what would happen. Should be 0 0 0.

I don't think admin adds should be auto-verified. Verification serves two purposes - keeps false data out and catches typos. I make typos all the time.

Mebbe the admin bit ain't workin right. (I don't have those options) Or it's set for Nuke admins and not bound to the staff group. Might have to holla at likwid about that.

I also edited my previous post after you wrote yours. Hehe. Might need a reread. :P

I'm sort of holding off on the map idea. Seems silly without accurate street maps, and even screenshotting the ingame maps won't make that happen as they aren't very accurate. But it wouldn't be that hard to do in html/php and skip the flash. Map as a background image, couple of gifs and dynamic transparent spacer boxes for you are here and here's what you asked for. Smaller, faster, lighter. Flash if we want scrolling maps and other wonkiness. Seems gizmoriffic to me, though.

Right.
Let me just say all your ideas have been noted - datestamp, user etc can be added - I have to see if the boards "Staff" status can be called. (calling BB, not the site). I'm guessing that you are not a site Admin (which the program uses), but rather a BBadmin.

----
First off, I can see the coordinate I added before you came across the problem. Its in the barrens, it's unverified.  I'm sure I added it in version 1.4 (as the option to add was not there to me in the previous release as I wasn't admin). 1.4 is current release.

I just tried adding some coordinates. They don't appear.
Now that's strange.... how the hell did that other coordinate appear????

Strange.
Just to be sure, I'll get T to check the tables in phpMyAdmin later on tonight, it could be that there is an unknown variable being entered for the "verification" field - still don't explain my coord.
All I can say for now is wait for the next release. Should have it tomorrow as I have the day off work ;)

As for the map, yes that would certainly work. Was thinking flash just for full effect! I'll look at the table/space map when I have released the next version.

Updated to v1.9! Everyone please update the info as you get it! It now can include Collectors, etc.

1.9:

You can now add data.
Duplicate data entry check may report your added information confilcts with something on the list - it will show some info, but this can be wrong. Please be carefull as the check is not working completely. It will add your coodinates, but may not check properly.
This will be fixed soon.

If you hover over the little "I" on the red/blue colour, you will get a pop up that tells you who added it and when, and who verified it and when. Also, any infomation with a "..." means you can hover over for full info.

// Added admin edit, delete & verify function.
// Range removed.
// Fixed direction calculation.
// Fixed add command.
// Redesigned code to OO (increase speed).
// Refined theme.
// Added new fields to the table.
// Added Info field on results.
// Results fully working with rollover ALTs.
// More informative messages.
// Added Subway, Collector, POI, and "Other" containers.

How about putting a link to this module on the sidebar for easier access?

Yeah.  There has to be a better way of accessing this than finding this thread.

Due to the NDA, we can't just throw this up on a sidebar. Keta has found away to create a block based on forum groups and has created what we need. He said he just needed to tweak it and I'm just waiting for him to send me the download link.

You may have noticed the block added to the top left, just under operator.
The code seems to be stable, and is not violating the NDA, so now we have links to everything we need.

two things:

one i added a hardline mwahaha i feel special now ... but it was on the QA and normal bets is not up til tomorrow so we shall see, it should be there, too

two there was one hardline that the numbers were slightly off .... for Lemone C the last coordinate is -1777 and it's -1177 .... definately went in circles with that one haha but that's okay, because i got some interesting screenshots of random glitches in the video .... like at one point in time the street was broken ... and by broken i mean the street had a break where it jumped like 3m, and the cars going down the street would go forward, stop, switch lanes, and then go backwards. then randomly they would be going down the street sideways .... and another place i was running next to where a steet was higher right next to a sidewalk, and there are times when you can actually walk into the wall and be half in and half out, and you can see things on both sides of the wall .... well i did that and the cars were now hovercrafts!! w00t!! ....

ok it was a pointless post but it amused me so MEH to you all

Awesome app Ket!  Well done.  I was looking through the POI's and only found Metacortex.  I'm sure many of you have the coords for these places, but I'll take the initiative when i get off work and update the app with the coords for Hel Club, The lobby shootout, and the Pearl Phoenix dojo(If you haven't been here you should check it out.  Bring a friend for a nice duel though).

Also, if anyone has the coords for Heart 'O the City Hotel or Popper's School(I heard some have found this) please update the app with those.  Much appreciated.

Grim, thanks for pointing that out. It should be sorted to 1777 by uh Tbone I guess (I haven't added any other members to "edit" yet).
The coords are for WORLD1 on BETA, not for QA - I don't know if QA coords are the same, although they probably are.

Beleev, thanks :) Yeah, things are sparse, I write stuff down to add as I find them (although haven't had time to play lately), but I understand that its something people will rarely do unless they specifically remember.

As for its use, I use it all the time when I'm in a strange area (not that there are too many of those now ;) )

A new update should be ready to go next week...
