Now all of that said, I'm not building another fucking metal base. Fuuuuck that. We can make something smaller but still defensible out of wood using a few of the techniques we've learned in less than a day. I enjoyed building the first base and defending off hackers, but I want to get to the offensive stuff much quicker next go round and I don't want to be demanding metal from you guys for another week solid.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

What do you think about building a compound that would enclose multiple mini bases so we all can have little independant houses too?  Would that be defendable?  I saw this link and thought... ooooo we should do that:

crap, I can't find the link.  It was this gated in village, looked awesome.

A few things...

Smaller bases/stashes are good on low population servers but NOT on a 50+ person server from my experience. Everyone has the same idea and so places you think are remote you'll quickly find crowded.

A gated community combines the worst of two ideas. In order to build a wall/fence large enough to accommodate 8+ player structures, we'd have to take over a whole valley space. If it's just a perimeter, then it's very easy to get through and then you know where everything is because you have access to everything. You could try to fence off a part of a mountain side or something, but then you don't have enough space to build. So you end up with the downside of being large and exposed AND the downside of smaller buildings with less defenses/more predictability. Also, I'm not about to build a whole fucking village either (or even the 15x15 perimeter and sidewalks).

Honestly we'll have to look at what server we choose and see what's available, but I did like our set up of having a place in the mountains and a place by the coast, as well as a few hideouts among the rocks. A smaller place would fit where Erathaol was building way down the coast.

My suggestion is to maybe start out with a few well-hidden areas and then when we scout a great location, maybe make a 5x5 wooden base with triple walls (3x3 actual living space). The metal base was 9x5 (7x3 living space...10x5 if you count foundation AROUND base). So we go from a 50 square metal base to a 25 square wooden base. Still 3 C4 through a wall just as a price of entry and then potentially another 6-10 to get to the second floor. That's something we could probably build in less than a day with a head start on wood and a bit of metal for doors, but would be a deterrent to at least the casual raiders. Or it could even be a dummy base and we have our good stuff in a stash under a rock that some noob will stumble across one day.

Anyway, it's up for discussion - anything that doesn't involve me spending multiple days building and you multiple days gathering! I think the community is probably a bad idea. I think the "hidden scattered bases" is not as viable in high pop and also won't be as easy to share resources/help defend.

I would spend tonight testing a few different servers out and seeing if you can find one you like.

You guys get on and play.  Even just for a little bit until we find a server.  It should pop up in your friends list.

I'll be back around midnight tonight. I have tomorrow off, though. Hopefully we can find a new server sometime tomorrow if not tonight.
