Tanking Archetypes
« on: June 09, 2011, 05:15:20 pm »
So, my original class pick was for Jedi Knight Guardian, due to wanting to take a tanking role in end-game content. But I've been reading up on the prospect that Jedi Consular Shadow builds will be just as viable as end game tanks. (granted, everything is speculation)

Curious about what others think. Is the 'evasion tank' just as viable as the 'mitigation tank'? Or is the entire prospect dangerous, considering the potential strain on Healers that a few solid hits could put on a character with medium armor and (possibly) lower health?

Take in mind... Tanking means taking aggro away from your healers/casters/dps. That means taking a lot of hits, fast.

Normally... evasion rate goes down with each additional enemy attacking you. Which is going to be the case. And dont forget elite/boss monsters/higher level monster also laugh at evasion rate.

Where mitigation tank... means constant low healing opposed to rarely situation needing a very big heal, dunno about you... but i like my healers to always be active instead of waiting for a hit to start healing. It lowers the chance of having a sleeping healer lol.

If I had the source code... Life would be easier.

in WoW, having tanks that can block, aka not Droods or DKs, always tended to take a steadier consistent damage input. evasion tanks can be spiky in their damage intake, which is harder on HoT healers. As a paladin healer in WoW i never had much of an issue as my class could cover spikes well.

I'd say in all, do what you want, what feels good. you will definitely have the folks on heals that will cover your ass (as you cover our collective asses ;)) one way or another!
