For those who are still into EVE online, I thought this was a worthy project.

Off Topic / Re: Astronomy Question of the Week
« on: May 16, 2014, 06:20:56 am »
I'm estimating at possibly 7:30 in the morning, and I got this information with its right ascension and declination.

The right ascension and declination give it's position relative to the equator and prime meridian on Earth so you can look for it in the same spot in the sky (adjusting for things like time zone and seasons). The link I posted for Bellatrix was just for fun facts (also so you'd know it was a star and not just a Harry Potter character!). You can assume at very far distances, say 250 light years (77 parsecs, 2.4 × 10^18 meters), Bellatrix does not move relative to the background over short time periods (a week is short on stellar motion time scales).

The 1st hint I'll give is that an Earth day as most people know it is not a 360 degree rotation.

Off Topic / Astronomy Question of the Week
« on: May 15, 2014, 08:06:59 pm »
So who likes watching Cosmos?

If you're interested in learning more about how everything in the universe works, I thought I could post questions once a week (more often if people want) to see who can come up with the correct answer first. Most will be conceptual, though for those with a little more math/physics experience, I can throw in problems that require algebraic manipulation, trig, and/or a little light calculus.

We'll pretend I asked the following question on Sunday for this week 5/11-5/17

On November 1 at 8:30 p.m. you look toward the eastern horizon and see the bright star Bellatrix rising. At approximately what time will Bellatrix rise one week later, on November 8?

I've done the drive from DC to Orlando in a day (and stopped in Atlanta on the way back for lunch with grandparents on the way back). Also have driven from Pittsburgh to Hattiesburg in a day. More frequently I drive from DC to Bloomington, IL or northern Michigan (not any longer on that one thankfully). Just bring some good tunes and/or book on tape/cd. Also, a pee cup if you really don't want to waste time stopping at a gas station.

I can pickup/drop off Ana as needed. Especially since I'm closer to BWI (~25 miles for me). But yes Ana, the beautiful thing about DC is that you have three airports to choose from when looking for cheapest tickets :-D

Shoot me a PM with contact/flight info if you'd like a ride in a car with butt warmers...

For those of you not familiar with what Relay for Life, it's the American Cancer Society's main public fundraiser.

This is the first year I'm participating in this event with a couple of my friends. A long time friend of my mother in law just passed due to cancer, and I'd like to help raise a few more bucks today for the cause. I'd appreciate a fiver or even just a thumbs up if you're broke.

So just for shits and giggles I crossfired a 2nd overclocked 5850 in my rig. Bf3 and crysis 2 on ultra settings across three screens is clearly the best way to play these games :-)

The card I got is a reference card so I can tweak the voltage, but the fan in there is rubbish, running temps in the 80C  range. Going to have to figure out a better cooling solution.

News and Announcements / Re: Facebook buys Oculus
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:22:36 pm »
I personally think this is a death knell to the Oculus. Zuckerberg has money and no ideas. That's why Facebook has been gobbling up other companies early on, hoping to cash in on a gimmicky idea. I have no doubt that he plans to implement this VR technology in a too greedy too fast way that will essentially kill this iteration before it has a chance to go mainstream.

I turned my regular domi into essentially a navy issue version since I already had a powergrid implant on my gallente clone. I run level 4's exclusively now since they pay out the most. I'm averaging 20mil per hour between payout, bounty and salvage/loot. The faster I can kill everything the more isk I can generate. It was really frustrating to do level 4's before I maxed gun skills. I could tank the whole room but it would take ages for the drones to clear it. I literally left my tank running, went to watch tv, came back 30 minutes later and the drones still weren't done... hence my shift toward gun boats.

All I will say is, zoom in... then realize that the jwst is exponentially more powerful than the Spitzer IR space telescope.

I have practically no scanning skills. The only outside venture I've dabbled in is planetary management and I sucked at that. Probably shouldn't have maxed out those skills...derp. I guess salvaging makes me a tidy profit boost off missions, I haven't tried ninja looting since that requires scanning/probing :-P
