Title: AlgorithmBlack - 10/31/07
Post by: Strod on October 02, 2007, 01:11:27 am
Broin pointed these out to me.

http://thematrixonline.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=506&month=current
http://www.algorithmblack.com/404.htm
http://www.algorithmblack.com/hidden.html

I was bored and played around with this one.

http://www.algorithmblack.com/hidden.html

Here is what I got.

When put to paper this is what it reads out.

[BW] [EH] [AW] [TA] [R] [EA] [R] [E]

[Y] [AL] [OL] [GO] [KO] [RI] [IN] [GT] [H] [M4] [?]

Obviously, words right.

[BW] [EH] [AW] [TA] [R] [EA] [R] [E]
[BEWARE]
[WHAT]
[ARE]

[Y] [THE]

[AL] [OL] [GO] [KO] [RI] [IN] [GT] [H] [M4] [?]
[ALGORITHM]
[LOOKING]
[4]
[?]

Which turns into fitting everything just right to make sure you got the words right.

[W] [H] [A] [T] [[]] [A] [[R]] [[E]]
[BEWARE]
[WHAT]
[ARE]

[Y] [THE]

[L] [ALGORITHM]
[LOOKING]
[4]
[?]

(When read straight off the order)
Beware what are you the Algorithm looking 4?

Anyone else have an idea of what the sentence makes out, if anything. This could be the correct order as it is.

"Beware the algorithm"

"What are you looking 4 ?"

Read the black boxes, then the white ones.

Hidden in the code: "You've never seen anything like this.  Ever."

Bayamos found this:

http://algorithmblack.com/dev/

Looks like a player event development team.  I registered an account under a fake name, but it needs to be activated by the admin.

I've been running a port scan on the server since last night.  After about 9 hours now, the only ports open are FTP and HTTP.  I tried logging into the FTP anonymously but was denied.

It's set for Halloween...
what are the odds they'll activate my account?

Thanks for posting this up Sorrows... Rumors are that this is a Player Run Event that is going to be supported heavily by the DEV's.  It is going to be massive and very in depth with tasks to accomplis in game as well as out of game in the real.

Seems pretty interesting to me and I'm planning on getting involed...

Why does this so quickly remind me of the Unidentified Broadcast?

I hope that the people that work on this don't get as screwed over as we did last time...

I can feel you watching.  I know I have your attention.
I'm sorry I can't give you more than bits and pieces, but I will soon.
I think there's more to the disturbances.
Electricity doesn't act like this.  Not in this reality.

It's actually "Maybe it's unfiction".

Unfiction (http://www.unfiction.com) is the name of an alternate reality gaming community.  Seems they have a thread (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21370&highlight=algorithm) on their forums about all this.

The Unfiction folks have been able to amass a good deal of tidbits from these algorithm sites but it's funny how way off base they are on what this really relates to.

There was only one post that was correct in stating it was MxO related. (And it should be pointed out that he was very upset by that possibility)

One very interesting piece of info they found was on the "1.jpg" link if you look to the top right you'll see the following names:

Bayamos
GamiSB
CynicalMotive
shinpseudo
Rogan  (name sounds familiar for some reason (sarcasm))
Spike

All in all I'd read over the unfiction posts, they seem to be several days ahead on the investigaton into this matter.

Muwhahhahahahaha... I recieved an email response...

You found me, I didn't find you.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to tell you right now.

I work for MCEUS... have for a good while, now.  There's been increasing
electrical problems throughout the city, leading up to the most recent
outage in Baldwin Heights.

The people in the office are blaming it on faulty equipment, but I know
that's not right.  Electricity doesn't act like this, it just doesn't.
There's been whispers of saboteurs... hacking... some kind of algorithm.  I
don't know.  I'm compiling all of the data I can find, but I'm just one guy.

When I get to the bottom of this, though, I'll be bringing it public via the
website you've found.  Assuming nothing happens.  Just...  be careful who
you talk to about this, alright?

Looks like everyone's getting the same mail.  Why would they mention unfiction, if they're not directly linked to it?  Bait?  Did we follow the wrong lead?  Do they have someone "on the inside"?  Why are they listing reds in their images?  Did they just do the usual /who at Mara C or is it targeted?

The list of hackers is definitely the first few people who registered accouts at: http://algorithmblack.com/dev

What could MCEUS stand for?  Mega City Electrical Utility Systems?

I'm willing to bet that it's an event directly related to the upcoming Halloween patch.  The website displays the date of Halloween, recent images make note of blackouts in Baldwin Heights, and Broin got an email from someone who sounds like they work at an electrical company.  Whoever is running it is probably going to use the perma-night of the Halloween event as part of this story.

I was loosely involved with the Unfiction community a few months back.  The medium is extremely fascinating to me.  It's not at all uncommon for forum members to tout their own ARG's through the forums by saying "I just got this weird email... yadda yadda..." or "I was doing a google search for a homework assignment and I wound up on this website... blah blah blah..."  That's certainly not how it always happens, but I it's very likely that the person who started the thread in Unfiction is the same person who started the thread on DN1.

It couldn't hurt to keep an eye on the Unfiction forums for some extra clues that might not pop up on DN1.

http://algorithmblack.com/stat.gif

This is more than just animated static.  Think of it as one of those 3D "Magic Eye" pictures that were so popular in the early 90's.  As you look at the image, relax your eyes.  A crude animated 3D rendering will pop out.

It has a round "head" on top of a cube body, with a few limbs (tentacles?) trailing out the bottom.  As the animation plays, the figure rotates and moves diagonally in a down-left motion.  Then one of the "tentacles" seems to bend upwards over the "head".  It looks like a rudimentary 3D image of a sentinel.

This can't just be a coincidence.  I'm not sure if we should keep it secret, or if we should make it public and claim the knowledge points.

he's right it is indeed a sentinel.  And I think it would be best to just tell people about it and "claim the knowledge points" as it were.

We should keep it to ourselves in case it becomes relevant later, my 2 cents

I was thinking that considering the event will be revealed in just a few weeks anyway, it might be a good idea to make it public and stake the claim on it.  People are picking the animations apart frame-by-frame, and scanning for steganography code, but I doubt anyone has found that little 3D sentinel thing.

There's been a trend in events lately where the first person to discover something or perform a certain task gets a reward.

Agreed.  That Tyndall event should have shown all of us that keeping things tight lipped doesn't work for very long.  Someone is going to find the hidden image and you can bet they'll be on the boards the next second later telling people about it.  I just think it should be us that doing the shouting this time around.

Sorry for the double post, and forgive me if this is already posted over at DN1 (I don't read it).  However I visited AB today and got to the hidden page (http://www.algorithmblack.com/hidden.html).  Follow the VV:HH coords and got the following: tinyurldotforwardslash2 6e7d

I don't know what to make of the URL.  It's obviously tinyurl.com/ something - but what.  Was the space deliberate?  Should it be "f"?  Is the "d" a "p"?  Is "6" "9"?  Only two links came of it, one to a post on the Vietnam war from Google Groups and the other a midi file of the theme from The Odd Couple on an Israeli site.  I'm guessing both are wrong.

Would anyone even remotely more intelligent than me please take a punt at it?  http://www.algorithmblack.com/puzzle.png

I have but they ask you to download something to get more intel or something like that and I don't download programs I don' t know anything about....

If you have access to the forums go ahead and post the contents of the PDF files or videos or anything else they may have.

Right now there's not much but chat logs.  The intel is pretty much org locked and though everyone is saying they should share, nobody is.  Tyndall has announced a black ops mission to befriend the algorithm and report back.

The app itself however is just a web browser, much like World Events, Sentinel and Scanline.

Ghost has just posted this:

Quote
The situation seems complicated, so I've been brought in on the operation to help keep everyone on track.  I'd like to start by providing a brief/synopsis of what our operatives have had to deal with up to now, and hopefully I can bring everyone up to speed.  I'll continue to provide these reports throughout the remainder of this operation.

10/01-10/08

The Algorithm, a new-exiled program, and a number of programs who followed him here from the machine world, began appearing and heavily recruiting redpills and exiles within the Matrix.

Brian Gauss, a bluepill employee of the Mega City Electric Utility System is alerted to the situation when encountering a series of odd electrical occurances and begins to investigate... taking more attention away from his girlfriend, Kate Sky, who already apparently felt neglected.

RMC: Terminal is hacked and put under partial control of the Algorithm.

10/09-10/15

Algorithm Operatives begin reaching out to various redpills, perhaps attempting recruitment into the organization.  They claim to want peace between all sentient life, and to end the war between Zion and the machines.

Gauss' investigation unfolds, leading him to learn of the Algorithm and several redpill hacker sects.  Electric disturbances throughout the city worsen, most likely either the Algorithm's doing, or a result of his operations inside the Matrix.

10/16-10/22

The Algorithm speaks to the masses, claiming his intentions are peace.

Gauss' evidence and collected investigation data is encrypted and put on this website.  Possibly with the intention of revealing his findings publicly.  Kate Sky leaves Brian for her lover, Everette Taylor.

EPN operatives fail an attempt at raiding Gauss' apartment for his files on the Algorithm. Mid-transfer upload is cancelled and file is fragmented.

10-23/10-29

Brian Gauss is killed in his former office at MCEUS while attempting to bring this website online.

Various redpill operatives begin their investigation into the affairs.  Contact is made between Zion Command and investigators.

Tinkerman and other Merovingian Operatives come into possession of a fragment of the data from Gauss' apartment.

10-30/11-05

Algorithm Lieutenants hold 'peace rallies' with operatives throughout the Matrix.  Continue recruiting attempts.

A Halloween Party at Club Paradise Lost is disturbed when violence breaks out about the fragment.

An anonymous entity takes control of Brian Gauss' MySpace profile and attempts contact.

11-06/11-08

Kate Sky is informed that Everette Taylor is a redpill.  She is awakened by Foxxdie.
