Broin pointed these out to me.

http://thematrixonline.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=506&month=current
http://www.algorithmblack.com/404.htm
http://www.algorithmblack.com/hidden.html

I was bored and played around with this one.

http://www.algorithmblack.com/hidden.html

Here is what I got.

When put to paper this is what it reads out.

[BW] [EH] [AW] [TA] [R] [EA] [R] [E]

[Y]
  • [T] [H] [E]
[AL] [OL] [GO] [KO] [RI] [IN] [GT] [H] [M4] [?]

Obviously, words right.

[BW] [EH] [AW] [TA] [R] [EA] [R] [E]
[BEWARE]
[WHAT]
[ARE]

[Y]
  • [T] [H] [E]
  • [YOU]
[THE]

[AL] [OL] [GO] [KO] [RI] [IN] [GT] [H] [M4] [?]
[ALGORITHM]
[LOOKING]
[4]
[?]

Which turns into fitting everything just right to make sure you got the words right.

[W] [H] [A] [T] [[]] [A] [[R]] [[E]]
[BEWARE]
[WHAT]
[ARE]

[Y]
  • [T] [H] [E]
  • [YOU]
[THE]

[L]
  • [K] [N] [G] [] [4] [?]
[ALGORITHM]
[LOOKING]
[4]
[?]

(When read straight off the order)
Beware what are you the Algorithm looking 4?

Anyone else have an idea of what the sentence makes out, if anything. This could be the correct order as it is.

Furious since 2006.

"Beware the algorithm"

"What are you looking 4 ?"

Read the black boxes, then the white ones.

Hidden in the code: "You've never seen anything like this.  Ever."

Bayamos found this:

http://algorithmblack.com/dev/

Looks like a player event development team.  I registered an account under a fake name, but it needs to be activated by the admin.

I've been running a port scan on the server since last night.  After about 9 hours now, the only ports open are FTP and HTTP.  I tried logging into the FTP anonymously but was denied.

It's set for Halloween...
what are the odds they'll activate my account?

Thanks for posting this up Sorrows... Rumors are that this is a Player Run Event that is going to be supported heavily by the DEV's.  It is going to be massive and very in depth with tasks to accomplis in game as well as out of game in the real.

Seems pretty interesting to me and I'm planning on getting involed...

Go ahead, make my day.

Why does this so quickly remind me of the Unidentified Broadcast?

I hope that the people that work on this don't get as screwed over as we did last time...

It's actually "Maybe it's unfiction".

Unfiction is the name of an alternate reality gaming community.  Seems they have a thread on their forums about all this.

The Unfiction folks have been able to amass a good deal of tidbits from these algorithm sites but it's funny how way off base they are on what this really relates to.

There was only one post that was correct in stating it was MxO related. (And it should be pointed out that he was very upset by that possibility)

One very interesting piece of info they found was on the "1.jpg" link if you look to the top right you'll see the following names:

Bayamos
GamiSB
CynicalMotive
shinpseudo
Rogan  (name sounds familiar for some reason (sarcasm))
Spike

All in all I'd read over the unfiction posts, they seem to be several days ahead on the investigaton into this matter.

Muwhahhahahahaha... I recieved an email response...

You found me, I didn't find you.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to tell you right now.

I work for MCEUS... have for a good while, now.  There's been increasing
electrical problems throughout the city, leading up to the most recent
outage in Baldwin Heights.

The people in the office are blaming it on faulty equipment, but I know
that's not right.  Electricity doesn't act like this, it just doesn't.
There's been whispers of saboteurs... hacking... some kind of algorithm.  I
don't know.  I'm compiling all of the data I can find, but I'm just one guy.

When I get to the bottom of this, though, I'll be bringing it public via the
website you've found.  Assuming nothing happens.  Just...  be careful who
you talk to about this, alright?

Looks like everyone's getting the same mail.  Why would they mention unfiction, if they're not directly linked to it?  Bait?  Did we follow the wrong lead?  Do they have someone "on the inside"?  Why are they listing reds in their images?  Did they just do the usual /who at Mara C or is it targeted?

The list of hackers is definitely the first few people who registered accouts at: http://algorithmblack.com/dev

What could MCEUS stand for?  Mega City Electrical Utility Systems?

I'm willing to bet that it's an event directly related to the upcoming Halloween patch.  The website displays the date of Halloween, recent images make note of blackouts in Baldwin Heights, and Broin got an email from someone who sounds like they work at an electrical company.  Whoever is running it is probably going to use the perma-night of the Halloween event as part of this story.

I was loosely involved with the Unfiction community a few months back.  The medium is extremely fascinating to me.  It's not at all uncommon for forum members to tout their own ARG's through the forums by saying "I just got this weird email... yadda yadda..." or "I was doing a google search for a homework assignment and I wound up on this website... blah blah blah..."  That's certainly not how it always happens, but I it's very likely that the person who started the thread in Unfiction is the same person who started the thread on DN1.

It couldn't hurt to keep an eye on the Unfiction forums for some extra clues that might not pop up on DN1.
