Dallas eh? Sared! QUICK! I'll meet you at their front door. Let's represent FA and get our guild set to be dedicated alpha testers for all of John's upcoming projects for this thing. :P Or steal some rifts if they laugh in our faces.

Cool.

Did you check out the rift valley demo too? Curious how the torque engine handles Rift when the content has been generated for a game-play experience.

Thought this may go well here. I haven't got a rift yet, so impossible to test this out for me. Any of you early rifters want to try this out? Saw it on garage games and it looks like a stoner's dream. :P haha

Watch the Aurora Borealis using the rift:

So, I'm considering buying a Rift... I have a birthday coming up in October and it's a "big one" according to my wife. I'll be 30 and she's up for buying it.

However, that said... I also realize that there is an issue of first-come, first-served with the dev kits. I'm not really worried about how long it takes to get here.

The question is: Do we know if there is a down side to buying now over the final, commercial release? Any reason to wait as far as those that are already Rifting can see?

No, the rig won't export in the fbx file format...

Understood. Then for now I'll stick to static meshes for decor. Probably more my speed anyway. I looked up the scaling and all that for unity last night and it looks to be the same as the scaling used during the development I did for Torque 3D.

I can't wait to be creative again. Been a while.

Rev,
Can you export the rigging as the fbx file? if not, what about dae? i think i'd possibly lose some orientation but i -think- it would get me started if i decided to do some clothing and such. I'm pretty new to the 3d modelling world though, so I don't have any experience going from app to app yet. I only know that what I've seen suggests that .dae and .fbx files are supposed to be kind of the "universal" accepted format for cross-platform workflows. Anyway, I'll try to catch you on TS sometime soon.

So, I've been out for a while with a new job and new baby, but I'd love to get back into things with the guild and contribute in some way.

Any chance you'd be able to use models from blender 3d? I know I can export to 3dmax formats and doesnt most stuff use a standard format these days?

I took a stab at it several months ago but I had to put it aside due to work. I haven't done very much with animation yet, but i could assist by tossing together some models for someone else to animate. (Decorative, static type stuff would be easiest for me, I'm sure. I really loved character modeling though. Just never reached animation.)

\I also headed up a design project called brood for a while. Ended up dead as it was 100% on-line with very inexperienced folks, but it was fun while it lasted. I was learning to do 3d modeling in blender and writing up design documents. Also handeled "hiring" and organization for the team. Setup the website and got some concept art produced by a friend.

If any of my small bit of experience could help, I'm all for it and would love some additional experience.

Wouldnt be opposed to even just snapping some pictures for texture use, either. Have a decent camera and plenty of locations to snap urban or "country" textures.

If this would be no help, I'll gladly just play with the final product. haha :)

And the guy who made this was the lead animator on Tron: Legacy. Weird.

I didn't notice my name here, but no doubt I've been inactive for a while now.

I got really discouraged back when 1.2 hit and I couldn't raid anymore. Between that patch making my combat medic feel gimp and my PC taking kind of a nose dive lately, I haven't been much of a gamer for the past months.

However, I did just finally order my new PC! So who knows! With SWTOR doing the F2P model I may come back to play it here and there. If not, I'd at least like to get on and play other stuff with you guys.

Okay I'm going to nicely be "that guy" and post this.

This is not a TSW THREAD.

You have your own area of the boards, numerous threads to divide the guild.  Please post there.

Thanks

My apologies. I must say... I've always seen this as a place to talk, have fun, share opinions, and "hang out" with friends. When I hang out with friends, I tend to discuss my current favorite game a lot. Never meant to offend or poke at a sore spot.

Not trying to "divide the guild" by any stretch of the imagination. Sorry if it came across that way. The topic came up just like planetside 2 and guildwars 2 did as well.

I didn't see it how you or others saw it... but I understand where things are now and I won't mention it again in any part of the forums but the assigned area.

Again, my apologies.

I think the similarities really had more to do with the graphics than the combat.  Same look, no auto-attack (that really threw me for a loop back then,) and the combo system was practically useless in PvP (to me, at least.)  Even back then, I had trouble playing the game at medium settings on a much weaker computer.

Gotcha. Check out TSW section about patch 1.1, it may surprise you on performance now and weekend free trial this weekend, starting today if I'm not mistaken.

I won't go into more details here. I don't want to derail the thread again and offend Anamodiel. :) <3 you Ana!

As to stay somewhat on topic, I wanted to say that I'm happy to see them providing those cartel coins for paying customers. I think it's only right and it makes a lot more sense than paying per month only for the last bit of the content that others played for free to get up to. A bit of love each month to show the subscribers are appreciated goes a long way in my book.

Just curious, what about it was like AoC? I didn't get that vibe myself, but it makes sense... same engine and all.

Time for us migrate to Plantetside 2 and/or Guild wars 2 ;)

and/or  The Secret World  ;)

I have to be honest I think I like TSW as much as I did MXO.... Though I  am not sure of the pvp

The PvP needs some love, but in my opinion it should be easily fixed. The developers have already discussed some possible solutions to the minor issues people've discussed in Fusang Projects. I haven't tried the others yet. Fusang is where it's at so far! :)
