Someone is getting scared of TOR!

Eh doubtful. It's more like they have realized that what they have now is a game where the only reason people stay is for the endgame and grinding up to level 85 isn't what it use to be nor something a lot of people want to waste a month doing just to start the real fun let alone pay for that month.

Blizz has been loosing members since WotK and their attempt at revamping the old world to encourage new play didn't work quiet as effectively as they might have wanted it to. So now they give you the first twenty levels to play so by the time you hit the cap you hopefully have an invested interest. The drop in price also makes sense because honestly it is ridiculous to have to buy 3 expansions and the original game. I honestly won't be surprised if soon they have something that just boost you to 80 so you can get right into the newest content and not even have to ever go to Outlands or Northrend.

Non-VR Games / SWTOR BOOKS?
« on: June 22, 2011, 06:03:20 pm »
While not strictly a book I picked up issue 1 of The Old Republic: The Lost Suns.Light spoiler to follow.

The story is rather interesting and seems to have a few different plot threads. One following Satele Shan undergoing an attack on the Sith to retake a planet from one of their Dark Lords. She looks to be a prominent member of the Sith and while not Dark Council material she might be of the equivalent of Darth Malus.

Loosly tied to this subplot is the main chracter Satele's son Theron who is working for a spy network trying to gain Intel on the Sith in the post treaty universe. A lead they get is about one of Satele's former masters who is among the best warriors the Jedi has and may have new information on what the Sith are up to and is also being perused by the Sith.

The writing and art is decent, about the same quality as Threat of Peace and Blood of the Empire. As an added bonus is that unlike the other two stories this one happens along side where our own stories would be transpiring.

However besides the connections the story is ho hum. We've all heard the tale of the wise old vet stuck behind enemy lines and the new young buck is sent in to rescue and bring him back. All in all though I can recommend it to Star Wars and TOR fans and 3.50 ain't a bad price compared to what Marvel charges.

I present to you Asylum City's Tim Drake

I'll give you a hint, I test that game daily now. Its kinda awesome, wait till the next info release.

You nearly made me change my pants. I will stay tuned and pray to the detective comic gods for a playable Nightwing (Hell, I'll settle for a cameo - there are flying Grayson posters in game, after all).

Am I the only one that's... uh, y'know... disappointed with the LACK of content given to us this e3.

We already knew speeders were confirmed (they've been in trailers for months, for Christ sake) and Raids will be in MMOs forever, so the Operation announcement was 'meh' (albeit the whole story driven raid announcement was a pleasant surprise). Tatooine... meh, nothing special.

Maybe I'm just being bitter.

Nope, I said the same thing in the thread about the new cinematic. ToR was imo again under represented with little information gained considering the time, effort, and notoriety that is e3. Just because they said no release date doesn't mean they have to continue showing us the same thing over and over.

What really bugs me is despite constantly telling us that story is the forth pillar for the game I'm not seeing anything at these major conventions that promotes the story. Just side comments of "Oh yeah that ties into this". Start promoting the story! At this point the last time I was excited about what could go down within the game was the HK-47 teaser since then it's just been mechanics, mechanics, mechanics and I'm not planning on playing wow clone 304 because of it's mechanics.

While I enjoyed the cinematic I would enjoy more actual information related to the game rather than showcasing out of game footage. Yes both the Jedi and Smuggler were impressive but unless I can do that in game I really don't care and story wise nothing was told that couldn't have been done in three sentences. This is an MMO after all not a hollywood feature and 3 years in a row of this is getting tiresome.

Here's hoping though that more info comes out of e3 than just this.

Um... *cough*...

Also, E3 hasn't officially started yet :)

4 out of 5 major press conferences would disagree with the exception of Nintendo which gives their's tomorrow at 9 PST. Yes yes the floor doesn't open till later but e3 kicks off when the big names show off their new stuff and that's exactly what they did today.

But on topic none of that posted is worth traveling to LA and showcasing to the world in the largest gathering for video games. The actual trailer was disappointing showing nothing new that we were not already aware of to some degree, granted some of it was actual footage and not just written comments about it but I doubt anyone in their right mind would say that setting up a booth just to show off mounts is a good idea or that two seconds of a "raid" is smart. You can watch last years footage and outside of a few short glimpses of "new" features be left with the same exact trailer.

This is e3, either go big or don't bother. So far I wish they didn't bother but here's hoping that they decided to let people play what they really wanted to show and not just leave it all in the trailer like they did the past two years. No amount of CGI gun slinging is going to make up for a lack luster presentation when it comes to actual substance.

Now now, let's not overreact here.
If they are indeed just impatient children, then there's no reason to be angry at them.  If, on the other hand, it was all a power play to secure a firm alliance with (and control over) us, then I'd prefer to feel flattered than offended.  Obviously, for either reason, they thought we were worth the effort to reach out to so we can at least congratulate their good sense is realize that the Furious Angels do, in fact, kick ass.

If they really expect to earn our respect, they'd better learn some patience before anything else can be accomplished.
If they are attempting to manipulate us and place us under their thumb (a paranoid fantasy, in my opinion), they'll soon realize, as they may have already, that the Furious Angels cannot be controlled.  We call the shots and we make our own decisions.

That being said, this whole situation has elicited a spectacular "meh" from me.  They're simply not worth the effort of getting upset.
As an aside, I also definitely agree with Broin's course of action of being straightforward and asking them what the hell they are thinking.

Well said. Pretty much sums up how I feel about the issue.

Hmm.... not exactly faithful to the comics.

If he was faithful to the comics, we would have had another Joker and two-face whose deformities were derived from acid. Thank God he's not totally faithful to the comics or I wouldn't like his movies nearly as much! lol

If you want it to better follow the comics, go watch the Burton and Schumacher movies. There's a reason Nolan got a chance to remake them. Not that the Burton ones were bad, just more...comic-y...same reason Superman and Siperman are being remade now too!

I look forward to seeing what Nolan does for a finale

First no need for hostility was just making an observation on the look and if you notice I said that it should still remain to be interesting at the end of that post you decided to cut off.

That said your comparison doesn't work. Both Two-face and Joker still held true to their normal depictions as well as Scarecrow and Ra's despite their changes in origin. Bane on the other hand has had his Luchador mask replaced by a very weird looking full head contraption that doesn't look to serve any purpose since it's not attached to anything that remotely looks like it's dosing him with any kind of drug. The teeth bit in the front also bothers me.

Granted casting an English actor for a Latin character was of course going to require some changes and the Luchador mask wasn't going to work as the mask itself has some special meaning to the character that doesn't work without the former wrestling history. That said I had at least hoped Nolan would use that opening to instead play up the intelligence of Bane, we may still get that but that mask he is wearing makes no sense without context and I am not willing to clap my hands and cheer for Nolan's choice in replacing a meaningful object with something that just looks cool without knowing why.

I have faith in Nolan to put out an amazing movie but that doesn't mean he gets a slide from critiquing (granted again without context it's mostly just speculation) him along the way. As always though I will save my own final feelings towards the film after I have seen it in theaters come next year.

The Killing Joke and A Death In The Family please.

Talia al Ghul would have been a much better love interest/villian/antohero. Ends up being Bruce's wife (for a little while), and the mother of Damian.

Killing Joke maybe, DITF no, to much crazy stuff in that book that was completely nonsensical.

As for Talia her being Bruce' wife has been retconned out and the whole Damian bit according to Bruce is that she raped him to conceive him. Talia is a fundamentalist. She has her way and may mean well but she will kill whoever she has to to accomplish what she wants.

Read Heart of Hush (as well as the rest of Paul Dini's run on Detective Comics, major Animated Series nostalgia in those) though and you will be sold on Bat/Cat shipping.
