Title: BF:BC2 Won't Start
Post by: Tbone on August 07, 2011, 10:32:59 pm
I try running it both in and out of Steam, and it brings up a blank white window for half a second and then crashes out. I've tried...

-restarting
-verifying file integrity
-redowlonading/reinstalling
-updating PB
-deleting settings.ini
-changing settings.ini
-updating DirectX
-repairing .NET framework
-checking video drivers

Nothing has worked. I'm frustrated.

Things to try,

Disable SLI or crossfire, the games seems to not like those

Deleting everything in the My Documents\BFBC2 folder worked for some.

Run the game with dx9

 in the settings (I assume the game ini?) i changed 'Fullscreen=true' to 'Fullscreen=false'. It starts it in windowed mode and let me play, hope it helps.

Dice was kind enough to add a Field of View adjustment into the game's INI file, available in the My Documents folder. As it ships with a 4:3 ready field of view, for 16:9 and 16:10 monitors adjusting it to 59-80 seems to be the best way to go at this point. Go to http://rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfbc2/fovcalculator.php t get the right FOV for you.

A little more help on the FOV situation:

4:3 (1024x768 )
-----
FOV90 (Recommended) = 74
FOV100 = 84
FOV110 = 94
-----
5:4 (1280x1024)
-----
FOV90 (recommended) = 78
FOV100 = 88
FOV110 = 98

16:9 (1280x720, 1920x1080)
-----
FOV90 = 59
FOV100 = 68
FOV110 (Recommended) = 78
-----
16:10 (1280x768, 1280×800, 1440×900, 1680×1050, 1920×1200, 2560×1600)
-----
FOV90 = 65
FOV100 (Recommended) = 74
FOV110 = 84

I finally solved this on my own. It took several weeks of not thinking about it before it dawned on me. Could there be something external interfering with the game loading? But what else would try to load with the game? Ahh yes...

The Teamspeak DirectX Overlay plugin.

That was the culprit. I disabled it and the game loaded up fine. I haven't figured out how to have it enabled with BC2 running, but at least I can play the game again!

Haha, I didn't see your original post, but as soon as I started reading this thread I thought "hmmm, TS has had a few updates in the last couple of months and overlay turns on as standard again"...

Glad you got it sorted. I've only just started on BC2... Last BF I played was BF2... this is a whole different game.
