I did the 3 stripes with 3 curved lines underneath, but it just didn't look right...So I figured if I wasn't gonna have it be technically correct, I'd go for graphically pleasing.  I can add a 3rd stripe if necessary, though.

I think it looks great.  It's different enough that it makes it unique and at the same time it has the FA style.

I would put something else than two stripes personally.  I'm sure there could be something better in that space.

FYI, the stripes are called chevrons, and the curvy thing is a rocker. I would have to say that 2 stripes is entirely out of place. That is E5 rank (or just plain ole sergeant). you may wanna look into a Col. rank. Much cooler, and would be more fitting.
