Sounds to me like basically his wife wanted to take more money from him in their divorce proceedings.  And given he is the second half of the creative genius in that movie - not her - I'm not altogether opposed to him reaping the rewards from his movie.  There are lots of evil things to be in the world; I don't think an ex-husband trying to keep the rewards of his work is one of them.  But, meh, just my opinion...
