It sounds like they will be releasing a QA server that is available 24/7, but which will not host any support.
Are we going with the support server or the QA server? I see benefits and problems with both, obviously.
-
I am personally going to play on the support server.
-
can we not have separate characters on both?
Maybe play on the support server during actual beta testing times and then on the QA server whenever beta is shut down
-
I guess the question is which will be our "official" place to play. Ermm...I guess for now prepare a character on both and we will just see which way we lean. Wednesday we'll start characters on the support server and then switch to the other when the testing hours end.

What are the differences between support and no support. If it's like it sounds, I'll take the 24/7 server thanks.

Ditto. ill be on the 24/7 server as long as you can still report bugs and stuff... maybe not live assistance, but bug reports at least...
-
I think the problem is that if you hit a debilitating bug on the 24/7 server, yer screwed.
For instance, I have twice now hit an Interlock bug where the game didn't recognize that I'd killed a mob so it kept me locked in interlock. Through GM assistance I could be transported to a new locale, however, the game still thought I actually belonged in that instanced mission so it kept trying to rewind me back there. The only way to clear the bug was to delete my characeter (which I did the first time) or wait for the server to reset. On the 24/7 server the servers will not reset. I'm not sure what I'd do with that bug...
Hopefully their new combat UI fixed it, heh. Worst. Bug. Ever.

24/7 server...
September 29th - the first day that I officially have no life!

it is like it sounds: You'll get stuck in a mission area within the first 10 minutes, and there isnt going to be anything you can do about it.
-
I doubt there will be no support at all... they'll likely have a gm or something of the sort to prevent completely getting stuck... why would they have a 24/7 server up just to let us play? They still want us to test.... and that means they won't allow us to just get stuck -forever. My guess is they'll only have support online during beta testing hours for the other server. So, if you get stuck... you're SOL until beta hours.
I think what they mean by the support part of things is that they wont offer support for lost items, abilities, or mission problems... I just feel it'd be pointless to throw a server up 24/7 and let people stay stuck forever..
Or was I so out of the loop today I missed something extremely important that makes every opinion I've wrote down up until this point meaningless? :)

here's the info from walrus, points to note is that it's code that is going into the end-of-month patch, so it will be extra buggy, there is NO in-game support, and if the server freaks out, it's not priority to get it reset ASAP.
"In other news this week, we'll be opening up a new test server that will be available to all beta testers. The QA Test Server contains the code that we're planning on pushing out in the end-of-month patch.
There won't be any in-game support on the QA Test Server and there isn't any guarantee that a restart will happen quickly if there are server issues. On the other hand, we'll have the QA Test Server up 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. We'll have details on connecting to the QA Test Server in the next few days."

You can get the same name on QA server, its like a clone of the one we're on, except with new stuff the regular one doesn't have...but it does seem whacker than the regular one =( but yeah see you guys in there
