The same thing happened to my friend. If you do not meet the requirements, your Key is wasted and you need a new one, but chances are that if it said you don't meet the requirements, than you probably wont be able to run MxO.

All I've indicated is that I have a 1.7HGz processor and 512MB RAM, Windows XP, and a Cable net connection.

I don't see how that falls below the limits.  And yes, I'm just now registering since I just now got my laptop back.

I said i had 2.0 processor, 256 RAM, XP, Cable, and "GeForce other" and they didn't say i was below limits. Maybe they changed something though. Doesn't matter anyways, cos according to their requirements you should be able to run it Asha.
