One of the programmes I have running to protect me from intrusions and crap online keeps stopping something on this site from a website called the sanctuary group, sanctuaryclassics.com or something like that. Just wondering if we can stop it or if anyone knows what it is.
-
can you elaborate a bit more?
when does it happen - certain pages?
-
Weird. Perhaps it is spyware on your computer that causes that to randomly try to pop up? I've never had problems with ads or anything on this site. We control everything, so I think I'd know if there was software or something else trying to auto-install.
-
I'm using peer guardian, and it happens every time I change pages on the forum. Only happens with this site, I might add.
-
Maybe it's a conspiracy...
-
PeerGuardian = Spyware HAVEN. GET RID OF IT
Get SpyWare Search & Destroy or Adaware. Or both, like I do, since one of them always catches stuff the other doesn't.
-
Conspiracy..yeah. Like the norwegian taxies and the danish hot dogs. Take the bus here, and in Denmark...eat potatoes instead.
Scary stuff.
-
Peer Guardian stops other things as well as spyware, like intrusions from companies and other crap
-
one of its main uses is to block known IP's of organisations trying to spy on you downloading their software/products illegally. Its a very handy tool if you do lots of illegal stuff.
The makers make a lot of money by adding in products inside, hence the spyware you could well have. Since its really the only thing out there in its class, there are a lot of users, hence a lot of money to be made, so a lot of spyware.
At least it has had in the past.
As Natuan said: Spybot and Adaware. That is also my combination - I find that each ontheir own can't quite get rid of everything, but both are great!
-
OK, you've scared me. I've uninstalled it and am running adaware and spybot now. :)
-
FYI (that means For Your Information.... ha ha ) anyway, there's some bad stuff out there call "browser hyjackers". You'll need something like HiJackThis or CW shredder to counter act them. Adaware and Spybot don't handle them. My Pastor's kid just told me of another spyware killer, free from Microsoft, that catches these badboys. He ran both Adaware AND Spybot, then the MS one, and came up with 13 hijackers on a supossedly "clean" computer. Dwonload it and try it. :p

Remember that microsoft regards almost anything that changes standard registry keys as an exploit: google toolbar for example, although this contains no malicious software.
Its a tough sea to sail out there!
-
I heard that HP were putting wildtangent, a recognised piece of ad ware, onto thier computers before they are even sold, what is the world coming to?
-
Firstborn, what's that ms one called? I'll just have a look on the ms site now...
-
Just a little side note on this: PeerGuardian will install itself on your computer whether you want it to or not when you visit CERTAIN websites. (No, not THOSE websites, but generally some "Security" websites)
-
Are you sure? I've found it to be a really useful program, it blocks crap from aol and microsoft all the time, and it seems to be clean, I don't think it has actually left me with any spyware... I have uninstalled it though anyway

The name is PC Doctor. If you you use MS Explorer are your email, then you could get a working beta of it. It does work better than Adaware. Spybot search & destroy works pretty good. All I could get is the trilal version of PC doctor, and that doesn't clean the spys it finds. @ $39.95 it's steep. Sorry for misleading everyone.

The funny thing about Spybot: Search and Destroy, is that it also has spyware embedded in the code. That's why it is a good idea to install Ad-Aware as well, to de-spyware the spyware destroyer! :S
