Title: Dungeon Lag Party!
Post by: Tbone on November 16, 2004, 06:32:36 pm
Ok, those of you who are lvl 50 or so, would you like to come help me try to reproduce that dungeon lag we kept getting? I reported the bug, and they want me to try to do it again and run some tests. Here's the log:

Quote
In any dungeon where the MOBS are aggressive, they clump together until the region lags. The lag would get so bad that doors would not open, interlock would engage without being shown, and, in the worst case scenerio, it would bug a player's char to where he is stuck in Interlock, unable to move. While this extreme case did not happen to me, it did happen to other members of my team, who did submit petitions as well. The case of dungeon lag definitely needs to be looked at, because it makes for awful gameplay, especially when you REALLY need to work hard to stay alive WITHOUT it!

*Auto Response for Lag Issues*

This lag was experienced by everyone inside AND OUTSIDE of the dungeon. Yes, even members of my team who were outside on the street near the building were experiencing "door-stopping" lag. This confirms it had nothing to do with my computer. Furthermore, I discussed the issue with Eris, who confirmed that she and other mods had experienced the same problem while running through a dungeon. It seems to be a steady bug caused by too many mobs in the dungeon. They group up and it lags the whole area.

Nun: Cory: To help me characterize the lag correctly, would you say it was more like being rubberbanded or being behind in displaying tactics, or that your screen was starting to lag, like you were moving through mud? Also, can you try doing this again during the next beta session with your group and see if it occurs again in the same way? (This will rule out a one-timer server issue causing it while you were there.) I appreciate your help in further regressing this issue. Thanks, Nun

The lag is definitely a rubber band type of lag. For instance, I might run through a room, reach a door, double-click to open the door, and notice that the door want open. A second or so later I am rubber banded back to the beginning of the room or even the room I was just in. In combat, everything seems to just stop. You seem to just be across from your opponent while nothing happens. The mobs around you all appear to just be standing there as well. Then you may see your health suddenly go down or combat text show up in the window. Sometimes you may even advance through a room or two only to be rubber banded to a fight that has been going on for over a minute without you having any knowledge of it. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get the gang together and try to reproduce it! All it really takes is running through a few rooms of a dungeon with aggro mobs. I'll report back when I have more!

Cory:
Thanks for the clarification. When you do run through the dungeon
again, can you include a /ccr at the beginning of the dungeon so we can
repro exactly what your'e doing (and where) on our end?

Thanks,
Nun

So who's not too busy tomorrow?

Cool stuff. After we try to lag a dungeon, maybe we can go hunting some more for dungeon items. Is anyone writing down what we're getting and where?

I'll be there.

I'll try my best to piss the mobs off so that I get stuck in interlock again.

*Shouts to the museum gang "Who's your daddy sissy boy ?"*
