I've had this feeling for a while now.
Aside from figuring out the best fighting setup for your character and making stategies for combat, I feel like I can switch my brain to the "Off" position whenever I play MxO.
Missions are really braindead. Most of the times I don't even read the mission description. I just kill NPCs that turn my crosshair red and talk to/give something/get something from the ones that don't. Usually that's enough to complete the mission.
Where's the challenge ? Where do I need to use my head and reasoning capabilities ?
Maybe once the story is unveiled, there'll be all these exciting puzzles and mind blowing challenges that will keep my interest up.
I just find the daily grind and "I kill you, you kill me, then I kill you again" pissing contest really boring after a while.
Am I the only one that feels somewhat unfulfilled by the challenge that this game represents ?
I'd love to hear what you guys think about that.

As you mentioned, hopefully the storyline that is coming after release will add more to the depth of the game. I also think that with the new patch getting rid of CT buffs, combat will become a bit more involved and not quite so much, point, click, kill.
I know how you feel about the missions, but considering how bugged they are I am just thankful they are running at this point. It is my hope that the depth to the missions will be next on the list as soon as we know we can run a full mission and not be stopped by an uploading bug or a stubborn NPC that doesn't feel like following you.
Most MMO's start out slow at release, its not so much the current content we should consider but the potential of what it can become. I think MxO has the most potential of any MMO out there, but that is just my two cents.

The elements you are looking for aren't in place yet. For instance, finding clues in The Sentinal in how the story will unfold and where it will unfold. Decyphering grafitti that has changed to get other clues. Etc. etc. They're trying to appeal to two sides - Matrix fans and MMO fans. MMO fans want to turn off their brain and grind grind grind. Matrix fans want to be a part of the story and partake in challenges. They just haven't implemented the "Matrix" part yet. PvP requires your head at least...even if you're a higher level, you have to plan out your moves.

I am kinda on the same boat as well in regards to how well missions are presented. I truly hope that the storyline will provide much better missions than the ones we are doing now. IMO they need to seriously spice missions up (and they can do it with their mission system). What my idea kind of mission would be is to have npc's patrol the mission area (maybe need AI upgrade), and have the security systems work (those alarms that go off don't do anything atm, I'd love to see NPC's spawn and rush you if you set off an alarm). This would provide a purpose to the disable security device tool (and the ability). The fact that there are three ways to open a locked door (key, pick lock, or hack computer) is nice but I would like to see all three options made available more often.
Currently the missions are fairly static with no surprises in them (surely will be implemented with the story), I would love to see twists to the mission. A quick example would be to have to rescue someone but as you do you find that it is really a trap and he call's backup as you're ambushed. This would throw you off guard.
Another system I'd love to see implemented is a password/puzzle system where the ONLY way to get into a locked door (mostly in a secured high tech building) is to go to a password panel (set up like an elevator panel) and the correct password must be entered. There can be hints and clues to the password combo throughout the mission area.
I can talk on and on about my view of 'how to make the game better' but I'll end it at that.

I do agree tho... we are all hoping this story is gonna make MxO, and not break it.
Lets take a popular game... KOTOR; you get something now that could interact with your story later. A bit interaction (like the RP path!)...
I want to have a challenge to progress, lets hope they have a secret weapon!

I do agree at this point. I find I am able to play the game half sleep and still do just fine. That is not as it should be. I'm hoping that whatever else they have planned is enough.
