Title: Tupac
Post by: Anonymous on March 16, 2005, 11:08:19 pm
In tonights interviews, there was an interesting question raised. I asked a potential , "If you could fight any historical figure, who would it be and why." He answered that he would fight Tupac. This had to be one of the most insane answers i'd ever heard to any question ever. I was curious to why he thought that Tupac would be a historical figure and his explanation was that "his lyrics are harsh." I would like to see if any of you possibly agree that Tupac should be considered a historical figure cuz i sure as hell don't.

He is a historic figure, depending on where your roots lie.
The story of how he died is surrounded a bit by conspiracies. It is a bit of a strange answer, but this is a figure, from history, that this guy admires. Others might pick Ghandi, who is WELL embedded into history, but sure if you were to answer the question fully, you would fight Ghandi for some other reason; you usually pick a figure who you have an interest in, or relate to.

Probably a better answer than some.
BTW, Tupac is not my scene.

Historical = History, and though homey Tupac is now history I seriously doubt his notarity will last more than 20 years, while people like Ghandi, Washington, Churchill, Reagan, will always be remembered

yea, i agree with keta. it depends on what circle you lie in. although many people see his music as what he was, there was a lot he did for poverty stricken communities. and his mother has set up different charities from post death album sales and other things to continue his cause.

i never thought this thread was going to get so deep...

He's historical within the realm of "Rap/Hip Hop" but we  were talking about a bigger scale like worldwide.

surely I can name a sporting star, if I name my reasons (for example the work they do to help <whatever> from their status. Movie stars too. Norma Jeane is still remembered over 40 years later... There will still be those who don't know who she is (When I refer to her as that), and some will never see her films... but she would seem a more logical choice.

I kinda agree that Tupac aint historical as you were meaning, not quite what you were looking for, but I still maintain its a valid choice (although one that might not help his chances). Is there anyone here who didn't know who Tupac was?

The question was: "If you could fight any historical figure IN THE PAST..." Dude, Tupac is still alive! There are clues all around us:

Tupac
Topac
Tpoac
Tboac
Tbonc
Tbone

Do you see the metamorphosis? Coincidence? I think not!

Wow, so the bossman is really Tupac? I always wondered what I would do if I got rich and faked my owned death to get away from all the hype, now I know.

I couldn't believe he said Tupac either, at least pick a war hero or something, not a rap artist from the last decade. Although I'm in the same boat with Arch, didn't know who the hell Benedict Arnold was, but knew I heard the name before and knew he was important. I find history interesting in it's own way, but I can never remember specific details.

well arch, just to enlighten you, on your earlier post about Benedict Arnold. He was cyborg chicken whom in the year 2135, betrayed the Confederate Colonies of Zion and then the machines kicked him out and he had no where to go. So on he walked through the world until he got bit in the testicle by a snake and died.

FIN

Since when does being loud, obnoxious and angry make one an historic figure?  He had a lot to complain and whine about, but I don't ever recall him presenting any reasonable solutions to the problems he bitched and whined about.   Blasting a bitch made n***a is not a valid solution either.

I'm gonna have to go with "no" on the Tupac/historical figure thing.  Tupac was merely your run of the mill loud mouthed, angry at the "white" world thug, who had decent lyrical skills and obtained some fame and notoriety due to his music and other activities, none of which were bad enough to be historically significant or good enough to have made a positive difference in the world.

Having said that, I do like some of Tupac's music, but I didn't particularly like him as an artist or how he went about expressing his issues.

I'd just like to point out that Tupac was only a run of the mill rapper who had hit it big for only a few minutes (in the scheme of things).  Had he not been gunned down, his career probably would have gone the way of Flava Flav, and he would be starring on the Surreal Life.  I dont know about you, but I dont consider Gary COleman to be a historical figure... do you?

Thats how I feel too. Hes only popular because he got shot and killed in such a messed up way. He was barely average at his time and he is only truly acknowledged because of his "posthumous" success.  I do not consider him a historical figure as he did not make a drastic change on the way we live our lives. All he did was bitch about how bad life in the hood and ghetto is, and not much has changed in rap music since then. In response to Arch, I teach myself at the University of Made-Up Insanity. You should enroll they have a great program thats better than Dade. LMAO

Yea he is definately a pioneer for good storytelling in his lyrics, maybe a historical figure in rap.

Tupac is a historic figure in the realm of pop culture.  No one will ever forget the Backstreet Boys but that doesn't make them an essential part of history.
