Title: Batman Begins - Go see it NOW! (no spoilers)
Post by: Heironymus on June 15, 2005, 11:50:37 pm
Well... I have seen it.. as it was released today and all. I must say.. very few movies (superhero) as of late have I gone,,, wow.. That was an awesome movie... I mean.. I have always enjoyed the old batmans and the new ones.. well.. they mostly sucked... but this one is taking pages out of the old movies... Very dark.. very heavily built plot...  I personally think it was a great movie and would recommend everyone to go see it if possible... even my 16 year old brother.. who I dragged along because he doesn't like batman/superman/spiderman or any others for that matter... goes... "hmm.. I actually liked that movie"
So Enjoy...

incase you didn't already know the villians are Ra's Al Goul and Scarecrow...

Whatever you are doing, drop it right now and go see this movie. Go see it in the theater and try to get a good one. This movie is worth it. Just...wow...it's what Batman should have been all along. Possibly the best "comic book" movie yet - yes, even better than Spiderman.

I saw it yesterday morning and all I have to say is FUCKING MASTERPIECE. I have never seen superhero movie so damn perfect in my life. I think this is the best movie of the year so far (even better than Sin City and I LOVED that movie.)

The main thing I like was how Goyer and Nolan took a character and just expanded him lightyears beyond the hollow shell of a character the other Batman movies portrayed. Christian Bale is an amazing actor and I knew he would be awesome for the role but Liam Neeson, Michael Kaine, Morgan Freedman, Gary Oldman, and the shocker was Cillian Murphy (played his role to near perfection; took a minor villan and turned him into a menacing entity) they all did an amazing job acting; totally convincing. I also loved how Nolan brought the character back to its comic roots, but still grounded the movie in a modern form of reality and not the overdramatized, near futuristic world of the last two batman films.

They also had one amazing script. Goyer had my respect up until Blade Trinity but now he earned it back with brownie points. Lots of psychological undertones, Emerson quotes, and other very great dialogues.

The best part though was how they made Batman so damn SCARY. The parts where he was stalking the bad guys had high tension and excitement and really pulled you in. Also, his voice was so fucking cool. I mean, Bale really kicked it up a notch by dropping his voice into that menacing, foreboding, dark knight type of tone; AWESOME.

I hope no one takes these as spoilers cuz they really aren't. I'm just tryna excite people to go see it and have a damn good time doing so. If you liked the Tim Burton classics, you will love this film even more, I guarentee it.

I saw it last night.  My GOD!  That is probably one of the best comic book movies I've EVER seen.  Excellent movie!  Finally Batman done right.  Even if you don't like Batman, its worth seeing.  There is a chase scene that is so smooth.

Actually, the best thing about the movie is that it really isn't even a "comic book movie" per say. It is a comic character that was brought into the realm of reality. Nolan made a realistic but damn good and faithful adaptation and I LOVED IT!!!!!

If you havne't seen it, do not read on. In the words of Tbone:

"Why are you still reading this? Go watch it NOW!"

You know what, we should change the name of this thread to "Batman Begins (If you can read this, don't read the thread, GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!)" lol

Yes, I must agree.  This movie was very well done.  I think the best thing about this film is that you get to see how an ordinary man can become something more.

Do I see a sequel on the horizon??

I believe it is part of a trilogy. The second one would be about the Joker, and the third one would be about Joker's trial and...someone else...Dent? Damn, I was reading up on it last night. I'll have to find it again. This is still speculation, but seeing how well this one is gonna do, they'll do more.

In all the stuff I read, Nolan said that he enjoyed making it but he wanted to focus on the movie as a "Stand-alsone" film. That's awesome that they'll be making more. Nolan took an amazing approach to the film and Bale is just the perfect Batman in every way. BATMAN PWNS!!!!!!

***SPOILERS*****DON"T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN*****SPOILERS***

Overall opinion, loved it. If I had to be critical there a few things that bothered me. Leeam Neilson (however it's spelled) is not a very believable ninja. I would have had an easier time if he had been teachin batman the bagpipes. Just not a believable role for him. Secondly, Scarecrow gets takin out by a friggin tazer by batman's chick:P Come on, one of the main bad guys? May as well have pepper sprayed him and hit him with a purse. Other than that, good flic and several cuts above any other batman effort I have even seen.

Liam Neeson (Ra's Al Guhl) wasn't a ninja.  He was a trained assasin.  A good assasin never LOOKS like a trained assasin.  Looks have nothing to do with the art of killing.

As far as the scarecrow, I seriously doubt he was "taken out", but he was a pansy assed pencil pusher.  What do you expect?  He wasn't a hard ass tough guy.  His power over people was based only on their fear of him, nothing more.  Tell me why a taser would NOT have taken him out.  I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him.

I just got back from seeing it.  This movie is AMAZING!!!  That pretty much sums it up.

I was glad to see that this film didn't follow the "Who's the big villian?" trend that plagued the previous franchise.  Nolan focused more on the development of Wayne and Wayne as Batman, as well as his war against crime in general, rather than a specific enemy.  It added a better sense of reality to the film.

Yeah, I'll seeing this one again.  :D

So who else saw Robin? Anyone, anyone? Because you all did, lets see how long until you figure out who he is.

That was a damn sweet movie, I'll be buying it when it comes out for the $19-$21 range. (Thats how I rate movies now, $25 range, $19-$21 range, $15 range, $9.99 special range, $5 range, and "Oh my god, I need to burn my eyes out.")

*******************************************SPOILERS*************************************************
Phienyx is right, Liam even said it himself. That deception and distraction are the ninja's greatest tool. He used deception to make Bruce think that the japanese (ninja looking) guy was Ras Al Ghul and his acting was just what the character demanded. I didn't see any problems with it.

Secondly, Scarecrow got hit the FACE with the tazer. I wanna see you or any other villan brush that off like nothing, NO ONE CAN. This was meant to be a realistic adaptation of the comic character and succeeded admirably in that right. This is not a "comic-book" movie, there are no uber fantastical stuff going on. Just real characters doing what most real people would do. That is why it is great, it deals with the reality and psychology of the characters, not fantasy action and all that.

Lastly, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT EROZ? I MUST KNOW WHERE THIS "ROBIN" IS!!!!!!!!

He's probably talking about the kid that saw Batman on the side of the building and said his friend would never believe him.  I think this is the same kid that is with Rachel with she shoots the Scarecrow in the face with the taser.

I am too for the most part, but if they didn't mean for it to be that way, they should rewrite the next script so it is that way. Because it's just too damn cool.

Robin is off traveling with his family in the circus, remember? He's part of an family acrobat act and some bad guy kills his family. Now this COULD be his pre-circus days, but he kinda had that "orphan" feel to him...lol.

And this movie is not in your $25 range, Eroz? WTF??

Only one movie has ever made my $25 range. And that would be The Butterfly Effect.

I don't know, man.  The whole idea of Robin is kinda cheesy in itself.  If they can bring in Robin and keep it as real and believable (read: no cheese factor) as it is now, I'll be even more impressed than I am now.  And I'm pretty damned impressed with this beginning.

BTW, if we're using the dollar scale, this would deffinately be in my $25 category.

I was working on a 67 page equation that would have answered the meaning of life, and also given the direct line to God's office until I saw this thread on my other monitor... So I stopped what I was doing, threw out the equation and went to see this movie as TBone commanded.

It was worth it.

Yep, its honestly one of the best movies as far as "the total package" that I've seen in a long time.  For me, the "total package" is a good balance between drama (emotional content), a well written story and great action.  The last two movies at the theatre that did that for me was Tears of the Sun and Man on Fire.

Robin won't be in these series. The second one introduces the Joker and the third has the Joker on trial and something else happens. I need to find where I found all this from...

Well, in this case, I can say that I'm happy they're taking it slow. Begins had a great script and just that kept me going through even the dialogues. If the other two scripts are as good, if not better, than I'll have no problem with them taking their time like this. I just hope they add a lot of depth to the other movies like they did with this one.

I was thinking about how that might have been Robin but it wouldn't really make a lot of sense. The purpose of this movie was to get the series back to the comic roots it was born in. That kid obviously came from an abusive family, while Robin came from a loving circus family. It wouldn't really fit if they changed his story that much. Also, the dramatic change between his family life and his loner status after their death was great to propell his character, I don't know why they would needlessly fuck that up just for some continuity between movies.

Ok, the DVD just came out today and it's worth the resurrecting of this thread.

Just like with the DC and WB collaboration with Constantine, the movie is released in a one disc special edition:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005JNJV/102-7704797-2996108?v=glance&n=130&n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance
or a disc deluxe edition:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AU9UYM/102-7704797-2996108?v=glance&n=130&n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

The one disc is just the bare bones movie for those who just liked the movie and aren't interested in anything else. The deluxe edition has a second disc of bonus features about the character of Batman and how they made the actual film (also comes with a little 72 pg. comic book; for the comic fans.)

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, this is your time to rent it. As for all of you who have already seen it, it is a very worthy buy and addition to your DVD collection.

Also, the second disc is so awesome. It's presented in comic book pages and there are no real buttons to push on. All the features are sorta hidden in the pages and all the extras kind of feel like easter eggs. I really like it and it's really iinventive.

as for the robin thing, i don't think that was him..i think that's one of the 3 kids that befriends batman and helps him out once in a while, you see them in the cartoons, and they were in the comics too...

although there are 3 robs, one is now nightwing, the one after him got killed in the late 80s or early 90s, and then there was another... i think there's like 4 totaly actually, im not sure, but it's more than 3.

i am so pissed, best buy put on the widescreen and fullscreen on display... but they claimed they didn't have no deluxe edition and acted as if they never even heard of it, and were like "oh we didn't get yet"...

wtf, yet i checked for prefered store availability and they had it listed... so i checked to see if it was bsing me by searching for a dvd that i know that store doesn't have in their anime section, and just to my surprise, it come up unavailable... This to me was confirming that the thing actually knows where the products actually go to, cuz it probably takes the product id and tries to locate it within my area code...

so yeah, i didn't goto get it, someone else was stopping by there on the way home, and i honestly feel they were gettin bsed.. blah ill goto tomorrow.... stupid people shouldn't work at bestbuy, nuff said.
