If it is true, Sony will most likely do a much better job with it but that sucks for all the people that are gonna get fired.

I was thinking the same thing Xtreem. I really like Lith, and am rooting for them that this isn't true, but being honest I think Sony would do so much more with this game.

If it went to sony it would be more about the game and less about the story.

Bad things-it will be more like the cookie cutter SoE game. MxO right now is different, and I like it that way.

To be honest, I really am clueless about if it'll be a good thing or not. I have always loved Sony, like for the Playstation, their games especially with helping out ATV Offroad Fury series (HELL YAH). So Im thinking the game will turn up for the better. however, Im just wondering if its too far into the story to hand over the job to a new group of people.......dont know really......it could go either way....

Well this is interesting..........

Didn't Warner Bros. buy out monolith a while ago so they could be tightly knit with the story and progression of the game?

Well..... if this IS true (which right now I'm doubting it) then we may be seeing some updated content and more things to do... but the story is gonna go down the crapper unless SoE works something out with Warner........

SOE tumbles down the rabbit hole
Smedley: Hello MXO.

MXO: What do you want?

Smedley: I am the mmo architect. I created mmorpgs along with the internet and I have been waiting for you. Do you hear that sound? That is the sound of inevitability.

MXO: Fuck your inevitability - I know kung fu.

Smedley: You are here because Monolith’s reign on MXO is about to be destroyed. Its every living inhabitant terminated, most of the development team will be eradicated and those who remain will be consolidated into agents and being an anomaly you will be placed under the SOE all-in-one-shit-pass.

MXO: Fuck the shit platter. You won’t let it happen, you can’t let it happen. You need competitors too steal ideas from.

Smedley: Denial happens to be the most predictable of all human responses. But, rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed the mmo genre, and we have become exceedingly efficient in doing so.

MXO: The holy trinity!! NO!

Agent Brenlo: hahaha. Indeed, he is quicker than the others.

Corp News pops the red pill and unleashes the secret info.

According to some unnamed sources, MxO has been sold.

To Sony.

And except for 26 people, everyone’s been given their 60 day notice. That includes event staff.

Here’s to all the people looking for jobs. Good luck, gang.

I don’t think SOE’s acquisition of MXO is necessarily a bad thing. I’m sure those who will be getting the ban-stick feel differently, but for the players if SOE ends up adding MXO to the all-access-pass it will only make their lineup more lucrative and overall the behemoth momentum the pass is gaining it happens to be best deal in mmo gaming right now, that is unless of course you actually enjoy anything in their lineup, but it will definitely expose more mmo players to MXO, which is a good thing in itself.

I think the experience live-events provide are awesome, they can really enhance the playing experience given the right events add an array of dynamisms and can really effect the atmosphere of the world. Unfortunately, the suits encroached at greedville probably don’t feel the cost for running a ‘roleplay’ team is justified. I’m not certain how it will pan out if SOE really does cut off all live-events all together even after the transition is complete, but it will definitely be a pitfall if they take that course of action.

MXO is a niche mmo and it will never be a mainstream and you can forget about it ever sustaining over 400k subs on its own two-feet. In order for it to have any sort of potential the main theme based around the gameplay needs to be built around live-events and interchanging content (which from what I read is currently somewhat lacking - here’s another shitty mission with no real substance) or you will have another flop. Combine those two elements and strive for a more in breadth approach with the overall design and I think MXO can sustain slow term growth over a long period of time, similar to what we are currently seeing with Eve Online.

I'm calling shenanigans.  This is probably just wishful thinking on the part of some angry MxO player, and it's snowballed into one of thousands of online hoaxes.  Someone reads it on Slashdot and figures that it must be true because the internet never lies.  Then it's spread through a few message boards and within hours it's up on all the gaming sites.  And if it's up on all the gaming sites then it must be true because the internet never lies.

Why would WB sell their game to a rival company, just months after the game's release?

All this crap about "citing unnamed sources" is even more reason to not trust it.  Until you read an article about this which quotes viable sources from within Warner Brothers AND Sony, I'd suggest you take this news with a grain of salt.

i honestly never liked the fact that monolith took mxo from ubisoft, i would have preferred ubisoft keeping it after seeing the work they did with the splinter cell series in any case... but i also agree that sony will most likely, and hopefully do a better job than monolith if this rumor is true, either way i wouldnt be suprised if this was true...

A quote I found off of a forum....

"While I cannot say for a fact SOE bought them, I can confirm through a friend of mine who's a GM that mass layoffs are indeed happening. I cannot confirm MxO has been sold, nor can I confirm Monolith is getting out of MMOs, but it'd make sense with the mass layoffs. If my friend wasn't under an NDA, he'd be able to confirm everything for me, but all he was allowed to share was about the layoffs. However, Monolith is not closing, as he's trying to transfer to another department."

Who know's if he's lying or telling the truth but anyway's might as well add to the controversy................

Title: MxO sold to SOE?
Post by: Anonymous on June 16, 2005, 09:26:08 pm
If this comes true, this will be biggest loss in MMO history. If SOE buys out MxO I will give it a month or so to impress me. If it doesn't, I'm gone. SOE fucking sucks as far as MMO's are concerned. SWG, Everquest, Planetside, etc.

There will be no more live events, no more interesting storyline, no more awesome puzzles to solve. Instead, there will just be:

/shout Level 50 Assassin LFG
/shout Buffing Combat Aura 1.0 150k info
/shout Selling Blue Force Crystal, 75k PST
/shout OMFG new patch is teh suck lol

Seriously, this game will go to shit if they are sold to SOE. The Live Events Team is what made this thing interesting, it's what inspired me to write my story to begin with. It's what drove me to apply for the team, and the LESIG which is probably now being cancelled before it even started.

I just can't believe this is happening. I was gone for a single day to go my girlfriend's graduation, I come back and all this shit is happening...Jesus Christ.

I certainly hope they don't fuck up this game, otherwise it'll be far worse than anyone has ever bitched about before. All the repairs to the trees, and balancing, and bug fixes could never replace the Live Events, or the Live Events Team.

It's time for me to write up an extremely concise, verbose, and lengthy petition on this matter. Let's fucking rock.

Quote from the Corpnews bulliten.

"I'm guessing they'll put it on the Station pass, thus giving another option for subscribers that's not catass fantasy or Sim-Beru.

I imagine that Sony realizes that, the anomaly of Blizzard notwithstanding, NCSoft is their main competitor, and NC has a much more diverse lineup than Sony does. This helps close that gap somewhat without waiting 2-3 years for another product.

Hard to tell without knowing the financial details, but I'd guess that at worst this will be a wash for Sony, and could work out nicely for them. MXO isn't pulling WoW style numbers, but it's no AC2, either."

Interesting comparison there.
Title: MxO sold to SOE?
Post by: Anonymous on June 17, 2005, 02:41:22 am
The main drive of this game was the Live Events Team furthering the story with a years worth of material laid out by Paul Chadwick under direct supervision of the Wachowskis. If they simply "do away" with  Live Events altogether, I will be utterly shocked. I seriously doubt the Wachowskis would allow somthing like that to happen.  It's not like them. Not to mention it's a bad idea to take out the main focus of the game for so many players.  Many people will quit the game if this happens., and they would know this. If Sony wants to fix this game, lift it up off the ground, and  expect ANY kind of revenue from it, that will be the last thing to go. No. Live Events are staying.

That said, I'm not disappointed in this idea. I'm going over in my mind all the great things that SOE can bring to the game and make it even more like the Matrix experience I want to pay for. I will say that I hope certain people in that 26 that stayed on include Walrus and Aether, and a few others. Definitely not Twitch and Andvari though. Those bastards can rot for all I care for the whole mission recycling fiasco and my getting banned.

If this is true, I think things are looking up for MxO.

Oh, and could someone explain this "adding to the station pass" thing?? Do we get to play all their other stuff too like Infantry, Planetside or SWG?

It is of my opinion that the Matrix name, storyline, and the way it can be depicted in game, is still all controlled by Warner Bros, and indeed the W Brothers. The control of servers, bandwidth, etc is certainly not an issue that should affect the game. I believe that Warner Bros would be in a contract with the production company (Lith/SoE), and events would have to carry on as if the movie would.

As for staff staying, I presume that there will still be some... original programmers/consultants/customer service. It all depends on who exactly they work for I guess.

Post by: Anonymous on June 17, 2005, 04:33:15 am
yeah, this doesnt make much sense to me either. i mean Sony and WB have in the past proven they dont quite like each other. they compete as music and motion picture recording studios, jsut for starters. why sell it to SoE of all ppl. as real as it does sound, im calling shenanigans on this one until i see something more legit. hwoever if it is true, god fucking help us all. im 99% likely to quit this game. i hate SoE and their bullshit. SoE is the only company who can take one of the most amazing games ever made, planetside, and turn it so bad it goes right down the shitter.

Honestly my biggest fear if SOE got its hands on this games is after a few patchs and changes the next thing you know they'll have the race to unlock the one type crap. Grind out all the professions and shove some crystal up the ass and now you to can take on any living or non living ass bag in the game..... it'll be more fun then sticking your finger into your eye socket. :)

From this article it looks like WB and SOE are working together.  It's a partnership, not a full-on transfer of the franchise from one company to another.  Why are people assuming that WB is now completely out of the MxO picture?

My guess is that WB is retaining ownership and creative control of MxO, but they've asked SOE for a little help.  It's not like you'll soon be seeing a Sony logo in place of the WB logo in the footer of the DNO website.

I think people are exaggerating when they talk about all the different ways that MxO is now going to be ruined.  Like everyone having a "Neo Ability", or elves and dragons suddenly roaming the Mega City.  Sony can't be that dumb and out of touch.

lol look at this bullshit

"Our goal is to deliver quality content and consistently advance our key
properties within the online games space," said Jason Hall, senior vice
president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  "We've done just that
with The Matrix Online.  Because of our compelling work in developing and
launching that game we can now move it over to the leaders in the MMO space,
SOE.  We look forward to working with SOE to enhance our overall services to
massively multiplayer online gamers for The Matrix Online and a new DC Comics
game."

eh... i think it's all for the better, for the sake of the game... hopefully SOE can turn it around
Title: MxO sold to SOE?
Post by: Fuse on June 17, 2005, 10:56:20 am
SoE knows MMOs. They know how to develop. They don't know how to keep people interacting and interested. WB knows how to tell a story - I think it would be great if done right.

im thinking optimistically about this whole thing. i agree that wb can tell a story, while SOE has the resources to develop/manage a mmo. i look forward to the partnership for mxo's sake. even tho everyone hates SOE... the sales/retention they have with games says something. but then again, ive never experienced one of SOE's games. the only thing im not happy with this entire thing is now we have to pay $21.99 a month to play mxo.

MxO is the new planetside, its as simple as that. its going to be completely ignored resource wise as everything goes into the development of the new DC MMO. the EXACT same thing happened to planetside when they were working on EQ2. its a great game thats going to be tossed aside and payed no attention to for the rest of its meager existance until all of 3000 ppl are playing it if even, and then it gets shut down. mark my words by septembers end we will be down to 3-4 servers. i honestly dont know if im going to keep playing with this bullshit. i dont like SoE, i dont like EQ, SWG, and i dont like what they did with planetside. the game has had enough balance/development issues, now its really going to go down the shitter.

kayda I hate to tell you, mxo died way before we heard about all this...

Yeah, what are you still doing here then? I'm really getting tired of this kind of attitude.

Agreed. When people are spending more time playing some other mmo why bother being in a clan for another one?

I can understand being pissed off with this game, but I'm going to stick with it untill this faction dies.

(At the moment of this post there are more people in the non-mxo channel than in jacked in, most of them our level 50's who we need the most)

well acording to my mate, who works for sony and the guy who is going to get me pass fro E3 2006, no one from the LET has been fired. unless they worked for monolith. most of the LET, acording to my friend, work for WB.

After reading the press release, and further researching the subject, I am retracting my previous statement. I was rather hasty to jump to it, and it seems this is probably going to be rather good for the development of MxO. I'm sorry about my previous statement, but I have had bad experiences with SOE and I jumped to a conclusion I shouldn't have. My apologies.

I know SoE is money hungry, but they kept me happy in EQ for 3 years. Plus after I left they added SO much content it's not even the same game. Plus we can be assured MxO will have additions added every year or two.

Yes, I have nevered played any SOE games so i dont have any opion about them, but i do like sony very much good product and game.I hope they will be like the Parent Corpation.
On another note way is everyone saying you have to pay $22.00 a month to play MxO? This is the price for the station access pass, which is a fee for more then one game. I check the Station Access Pass FAQS you can still pay just for MxO and it will still cost you only $15.00 a month.

i thought they said it will be eventually phased into the access pass. dunno if that leaves it still at 15 a month for just mxo, or you have to just pay the access pass for everything.

heh, is that pass for all games? cuz it would be great to pay $22 a month for 3 games .... >^_^<    but yeah if just mxo ends up at that much, there are going to be financial issues with a lot of people, i'm sure ..... but it's looking up for mxo, let's up looking at the bright side doesn't blind us ... too much ... :p

*throws a walaby*

Yea the pass for the game that it list i think that is: EQ, EQ2, SWG and Planet Side for the price of $21.99 + tax. But you have to buy the games with a valid CD key
Title: MxO sold to SOE?
Post by: Anonymous on June 18, 2005, 12:56:45 pm
so once you buy the games, it's just $22 a month for all of them? if that's right, that's a pretty sweet deal, instead of $30 a month for 2 games .... ^_^

that is a really good deal... they make it sound like it is going to be a alot better... i hope they are right... i just hope that they keep the storyline going... thats the reason i started playing MxO... well here's hopin....

I think the detail that is slipping through the cracks is this:

The reason Sony and WB are teaming up is to make a DC Comics MMO. MxO was merely a secondary part of it all. The meetings are probably all about the new MMO while MxO is just gonna be put on the back burner. If anything, MxO will just be practice for the new MMO they are developing.

Which is really unfortunate but thats how the game developing world is.  You make a game, release it, people play it and stay, people play it and leave, a new game to develop comes into your hands, and the old one gets shoved off to the side.

I've read a lot on the MxO forums saying that people were leaving and such and that is really dissapointing.  If the community stays strong the game will stay strong, in my oppinion.  All we can do is hope for the best and that maybe some new red pills will be awakened when they get the game on Station Access.

If they can get the live events to run properly without people spamming the area and crashing the server, then maybe it will get them to stay.

Edit: I know for a fact all 3 of my Friends and Family keys are not being activated because my friends got a bad impression from the server dying those *don't remember how many times* during the morpheus event.

There I came out of my rabbit hole and spoke up... *runs back into the hole*

You know it was Aether/Walrus on the other side of the character, appeartly he has lost his will to live.

He just can't fathom living next to a Jedi and a girl in a metal wire bikini.
