Title: Teamspeak Blues
Post by: Tbone on August 04, 2005, 03:46:31 am
For those who didn't know, Tivod donated our Teamspeak server. He did so without wanting recognition. He said it was the "faction's server" and didn't even want to be associated with it. Anyway, he is moving on to other things. He says we have the server until October. We need to find another. Let me know what options are available. Once we find a new TS server, we also need to work on re-coding the TS module for the site. So yeah...fun stuff to do!

I'm sorry to have this happen. I've enjoyed much of the conversations that went with TS and I hope someone can pick it up. If you folks need any info on it please feel free to send an email to croswhjo@yahoo.com. I check it every couple of days so you should get a quick (some what) response.

Take it easy.

Hmm?  Does that mean Tivod is leaving?  How much does a new server cost?

Coding a new block shouldn't be too complicated... I'll take a look into that.

Lithium, I'm gonna send you a PM we need to hook up and do some customizing of this script i've got so we can get it set up on the site.  You come very highly recommended from Tbone :p

hope everyone realizes the biggest issue here isnt the equipment, or the scripts, etc, it's the bandwidth and pipe. anyone here know what the current one is on, as far as it's upstream and monthly transfer limits? I might be able to arrange something, just lemme know that end of it.

And destyn: check the left side of the page for the CLS 2.0. some of it might be down, but it's basically a system we have for keeping everything in the game plotted and mapped out, from locations of hard lines and points of interest, to access nodes and collectors.

Both the CLS 2.0, and the voice block are hosted on ratio's server.  Ratio is MIA and so is his server.  So they are down.

I have hosting with 50 gigs of monthly transfer, (where we plan on setting up the voice block once we tweak it). I don't have a problem hosting either of the two, because they only generate a small ammount of bandwidth.

As for the CLS, I don't have nearly as close to the knowledge of PHP or scripting of any kind to create them, i can usually look at the code and tweak it up to make it run how i want... but not make it.

Well seeing as im paying already, and not yet hosting anything there (regularily) for the site... im not too worried about it.

I as always have free and unlimited TS for anyone to use. I'll talk with Tbone about this later tonight.

Like Adrenaline said, we need a server with bandwith and the pipeline. TS requires a large amount of both.

TBone, I'll let you and Lithium sort out whats going to happen with that TS script that I found.

The next thing we need to find out is if Ratio has gone completely MIA because if we can't get our hands on the CLS 2.0, I recommend we start looking into scripting up another one as soon as possible.  Just a suggestion :)

the main reason im trying to get some numbers on monthly bandwidth for this is because I might be able to hook something up, but im gonna need an idea of how much BW im looking at before I go trying to get it hooked up.

Styan I have the TS block all set to go...

http://liquiware.net/furiousangels/TSBlock/block.php

The only thing I do know how to do is include display.php from an outside server include() will not support it. The reson we want to do this is because from past experience when TS goes down this web hosting doesn't like it and shuts it down. With the core files on another server it solves the problem.

Ratio is MIA he will respond to no one not even Broin or Tbone or me for that matter.

Bandwidth for a TS server like us is usually between 50gig and 100gig a month to run. Also the server requires SSH access, all of which my server does have.

hmm. nm then, I suppose, the BW doesnt seem too bad at all, but due to the location of this server and the backbone it's connected to, id be the only one here allowed to do any ssh into it if needed.

The server I have free unlimited use of has Dual Xeon 2.6GHz Processors, 2gig of RAM, and a 100mbps line.

200 people could join my TS and it wouldn't flinch at all.

Aug 8,  Stats on the TS server:

Aug 9,  Stats on the TS server:

We'll do this again tomorrow night around the same time, and see what changes there are. To see if we can get an idea on usage stats.

Edit: Added August 9th.. its not quite the same time but i have family here and won't be back till they goto sleep ... at which point I plan to mission to lvl 41! :P

cool beans, thats the info I was looking for. the colo'd box Id have access to is just about double on every spec of what lithium posted, but due to how high-profile it is and other matters Id be the only one with access to it maintenence wise, so if lithium already has things all set, that's cool, I was mainly looking into because I figured our backs were against the wall a bit more than they actually are.
